Hello everyone. I'm a 26 year old dude out of Portland, OR.
I was born with great genes and because of that, I've never been overweight. If you saw me, you'd think I was pretty healthy. And I am, for the most part. I've eaten organic, healthy foods for about two years now, but I am starting to make the transition to raw for a few reasons.
I am starting a new chapter in life, one that will hopefully be structured around healing. College was fun, but it was too fun. I fell into the binge drinking lifestyle. My diet at the time was also horrible. I look back now and get the chills. I was drinking hard three nights a week and eating god-knows-what: fast food, $1 frozen pizzas from Winco, ramen. I put on about 35 pounds and was 205 or so. (not that anyone could really tell. I think the fat all went to my ass ((strange for a guy?)).
College ends but the drinking continues. I moved to Japan for a year to teach English. The diet is so different, so much cleaner than the American diet. With the diet, and the fact that I walked everywhere (backpacked through all of SE Asia after Japan), I lost 45 pounds by the time I came back to the US.
I continued with a healthy, organic lifestyle after my return. I ran the Portland Marathon in Oct. 2008. I did this all while binge drinking each weekend.
I lost a girlfriend of 6 years about 3 months ago. This was due to a disagreement of religion (what!? really!? yeah... long story). Living the single life again was hard, but with some time, I have come to realize that this is a great time for me to explore, learn more about myself and make some lifestyle changes that will help me to live a fuller, more connected life with the world around me.
I have a lot of responsibilities in terms of work and I take stress into my core and have trouble releasing it. I used alcohol to get rid of stress and also as a social crutch for far too long.
So now, I'm taking it day-by-day. Meditating, concentrating on my breath and working toward a better me. I'm hoping that eating raw will contribute to the journey.
Today was my first day.
Thanks for the forum. I've learned much already!
