Hey guys, I'm new here, am 17 and am sick of my food lifestyle. I eat somewhat unhealthily and don't feel very energetic and feel fatigued. I decided I wanted to start eating healthier, so I did some research and found out about the raw food diet!

So here I am, I am ready to get started. Does anyone have any good juicers they would recommend? I have looked up some recipes and all I am missing is a good juicer, so I am looking for input :)

Thanks for the quick response! I'll start researching juicers. In the meantime however, I have wheatgrass, parsley, spinach, apples, a pineapple and ginger at my disposal. Should I just dump it all in the blender and hope for the best?

and... you have to strain wheatgrass - your body cannot digest the grass... only the juice from it.

- the wheat grass - parsley - spinach ide blend in a blender 2/3 full of water then strain . but the apple - pineapple would be a slushy mess using this method . you'd do better chopping those up in small peices then putting in big pot and smashing with something like a manual potato masher , add water then strain

- myself i bought a champion and didnt like it , spins too fast aireating juices .
it also wastes alot of produce and turns things like pineapple and tomato to mush rather than juicing . plus it leaks out the side of shute . the green star gets alot of good reveiws but expensive . and a still expensive juicer but cheaper than greenstar that gets great reveiws is the omega 8003 , ive seen hundreds of people at forums really like theres . but to me unless your getting into juice fasting a juicer isnt needed

Aleesha- I was thinking of this recipe:
Recipe #41
1 cup spinach,
1/2 inch ginger,
1 lemon,
1 cucumber,
2 celery
2 pears
1 cup water

Can i substitute the pears for apples(I have no pears/banana/papaya)?

michigan roman- I'm not very good at just winging amounts, how much wheat grass/parsley/spinach should i be putting in the blender? And yeah its fine if i dont use the apple or pineapple. -ALSO- Where I am staying right now there is a Twin Gear Green Star juicer, should I be using that?

Thanks again!

that twin gear green star is like the top of the line juicer everyone dreams of owning

in the green juice , first must use scissors to cut wheat grass into like one inch or less bits or it'll wrap around blades and stop them from spinning . in mix only a little parsley as its potent , say sprig of parsley half as big as hand / half cup wheat grass / cup and a half spinach

Sorry, two more questions - Should I be using water - It wont be really thick/lumpy?

and

Are there any other ingredients I can add? Like I said, I have beets, lemons, oranges, ginger, celery and strawberries.

I am at my aunt & uncles house atm, I can't believe how much I lucked out with this green star juicer! Too bad I can't take it home! :D

if using blender need some water . if juicer no water

juices are different tastes for everyone

me i like the green stuff seperate from the fruit / sweet stuff , the beets on own .

like oranges - strawberries together with maybe a bit of lemon , or not , would be great . then another with all the green stuff and maybe lemon .
the ginger ive only had in tea form so dont know how ide use

You can substitute whatever you like, assuming you like the taste of your ingredients. =] The world is yours for the taking.
Is there a reason you're so concerned with juicing? It's probably the most expensive part of the raw lifestyle, and while undoubtedly good for you still unnecessary - personally, I have never done it.

Maybe they'll give you the juicer? Does it get used there?

Shels- I am just starting the raw lifestyle right now, I want to kind of ease into it with the part that appeals to me most(I've always loved juices).

Sidrah- I don't think it gets used much, but considering the price I doubt I'd get it :/

And thanks for the help michigan roman!

Welcome and good for you! Kale chips are a easy fun way to add a raw snack to your day! You can buy them at many health food stores or make them yourself.
