We just painted our kitchen. We love colour... so be warned. This is not a kitchen for people who love beige. *giggling*
I have a juicing station. Nothing cooked ever touches this area. This is for raw live (vegan) food only!
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x87/recyclinggoddess/misc/juicingcounter.jpg
I have my cutting board, my knives and all my spices here. My mason jars and clothes to soak up spills are in the drawers as well. Notice all my tea! mmm my Love tea! (((Yogi tea)))
Next is my juicing fridge. This fridge only has things for juicing in it and trust me when I say it is FULL! Between cantaloupes, apples, young coconuts and greens... it's full!
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x87/recyclinggoddess/misc/juicingfridge.jpg
As we move counter-clockwise around the room... this is the sink area. I painted the cabinets and drawers purple yesterday. I love the colour in this room. So vibrant and alive!

This is our 135 gallon fish tank. We have another one the same size and another that 210 gallons in the living room. Yup... we love fish! You can see the two fridges beside it. This is the area normal people would have a table... but we are far from normal.
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x87/recyclinggoddess/misc/135gallontankandfridges.jpg
And... my new fridge! The black one was delivered yesterday which allowed me to make a fridge for juicing. Everything that was raw for the family moved from my juicing fridge into this new black fridge yesterday. The white fridge is for cooked food. You can't see it but my dehydrator is beside the white fridge.

And that's a little tour of my kitchen.
Wanna show me yours?

Very nice! Good lighting too. Looks like a place where lots of love and good conversation is also shared, with the food. I envy your counter space. Cute door handles!
I also dig that you like fish tanks. Salt and fresh water?
(giggling as I notice we have the same waste can)
our kitchen colors-butter, corn husk, toasted apricot, pale smoke.
Aleesha Sattva
08-07-2010, 02:23 PM
any pics street?
we had salt water but honestly... the critters just die and i felt like i was raping the ocean. so all our tanks are fresh water. many of the fish we have are over 5 years and many over 10 years old. ;)
i'll have even more counter space when my hubby adds the cutting boards inside those two large drawers on my juicing station. it'll double my space!

I might take more after I straighten up a bit. Kitchen really needs to be reconfigured, but here is an example of the colors. Ooops, I could've closed the cabinet doors, I guess. The laundy room to the right is in carolina parakeet I think.

Street I love your colour choices. Did you pick them or your wife?

Thank you. I picked the butter and pale smoke (it's a light gray in the blue tones) and Lisa brought in the corn husk. She later added the apricot over one wall as a test. I think she wants that on more wall area. It's just been a cover up of the previous owner's colors so far. I'd like to make one bank of cabinets into an L base and add more counter prep space.

I really like those colours a lot. You two have great taste!
We've decided to add two more cupboard doors to the purples. The two above the stove will be painted purple in the next few days. ;) It was my son's suggestion and I think it'll be perrrrrrfect. It'll balance the room nicely!
AND I picked up some black marble tiles today. Placed them on the counter where the coffee pot it... so the entire back foot of cupboard space is all black marble. It looks amazing!

I know lisa would love your purple too. Do I see it on the ceiling fan blades over the tank? Clever! Oh, and I like the tile idea.
Aleesha Sattva

those fan blades do look purple in the pic... but they are a wood grain. ;)
ya the tiles are a cheapo way to have a marble counter top.

I really like your kitchen alot!! So much fun vibes!!! :)
I'm so in love with every fish tank I see!!! That's an awesome size of a tank!!! I wish I could come over and hang with ya!! My family used to have a really big one when I was a child and would just stare into it for hours!! It's one of my favorite things in life!! :D
Here's a a little tour of where I eat and create raw goodies!!!

Oh! Aleesha and Street, I love your choices of color!
Someone once said this to me and it's a beautiful thing!!

Hi Aleesha ~ What a JOY it must be to work in your kitchen! Or should I say, play? And look at all your loooovely counter space
~ sigh ~ Just great!

I could camaflouge my VitaMix, it's a very special talent I have. ;)
The cupboard appears black in the pics, it's a very dark brown "pretend" wood grain. It's a brand new built apartment complex I live in, I didn't decorate any of it. I do love the cupboards too! :D
No kidding about all the counter space you've got, heaven space!!! :)

It's so funny that you are both talking about counter space... cause I have so little. At least it seems like too little in my world. That's why I'm having my hubby add the huge cutting boards into the drawers on my juicing station. That way I don't have to put my juicers away when we have a big meal. I can just pull them both out and VOILA I'll have extra counter space!
I suppose some of the reason I feel like I have so little counter space is because I won't use some areas as they are often used for preparing meat and I'm not interested in having any of my food or utensils near those areas. *ewwww* I clean them well but still... this Mama likes to have her raw food away from there.

Hmmm.....?
How about some kind of a mini island in the kitchen, or like like one of those culinary tables in the middle of the kitchen for more space.
The cutting board drawers sounds really cool!! Great idea! :)

I have a new house and therefore a new kitchen.
One addition that I made was to put in a second set of sinks. Now I do not have to wash my veg and greens in the sink that is used for dirtier things like plates that have had pizza and nasty things on them.

I have a tiny kitchen, no where near enough room for all I do there. My counter is prob a total of five feet long and that includes a flat top stove as part....eeeekazoids....
Actually am toying with idea to move maybe. Not because of that. Just to move....hahaha yeah right!

we don't have room for an island, or i'd have one already. that's why i'm doing this cutting board idea... it's a hidden island! if i ever get to design my own kitchen, no matter how big it is, i'll have them put cutting boards all the way around the room. double the counter space is never a bad idea IMO.

i would LOVE that. you have no idea how much i scrub mine to make sure nothing is touching my food. we also feed our dogs raw... so you imagine how much energy i waste thinking about the raw dog food getting near my stuff.

I don't know if it's beautiful, but it's my raw kitchen. :P
This is a shot of the left side of my kitchen...

And the right side...
http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/SuzanneDeJong/007.jpg
Moving around the room in a clockwise manner, first we have my prep area - juicer, food processor, counter space...
http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/SuzanneDeJong/001-1.jpg
Ripening fruit, and yes...even the kitchen sink...
http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/SuzanneDeJong/002-1.jpg

Dish area, and a smaller prep area - vita mix lives here, with some nice ripe tomatoes...
http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/SuzanneDeJong/003.jpg
The brand-spanking-new dehydrator! Notice my stove has been converted into an extra "counter" top. My sweetheart got me a nice sheet of plywood, cut it into the correct size, and painted it white (it's already got spots on it from brightly colored fruit juices) so I could use this space too!
http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/SuzanneDeJong/004.jpg
And finally this tiny spot next to the stove/dehydrator is just used for books when I need a recipe, or fruit storage (no room in the fridge for the apples)...
http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a461/SuzanneDeJong/005.jpg
I sure wish I knew how to make the pictures small and clickable the way everyone else does them - maybe someone will tell me now! :)

Looks good AllergyGirl. =] Wow you have a big kitchen, lol. We have the same food processor!
How fast do your tomatoes go bad on the counter? I've always kept mine in the fridge.
AllergyGirl
08-08-2010, 03:22 PM
Oh yeah - it's huge. I have to go into the living room to open the fridge...LOL
They don't really go bad on the counter because I use them fairly quickly. I can't stand the mealy texture of tomatoes once they've been in the fridge, so I don't store them in there unless I absolutely have to.
Aleesha Sattva
08-08-2010, 03:38 PM
you shouldn't keep tomatoes in the fridge. they become more acidic that way. (at least i think i'm remembering that correctly). i keep my 15 pound flat of tomatoes on the counter and even though they are ripe when i buy them... they never go bd before i use them.
thanks for sharing your home with us allergy!

My kitchen is far from raw, as I share with family. :o Though I have a part of the counter reserved for myself where I chop/vitamix/food process/etc, and I also get the two large produce drawers in the fridge just for my stuff, as well as the drawers in the more spacious garage fridge. I have 1 1/2 shelves in the cabinet to myself where I keep my dry goods, and 2 rows of the dining room's food shelves for room temp produce and my knicknacks. :D
On the tomato topic, just wanna add that refrigerated tomatoes aren't as flavorful than when they are room temp. ;) If you are worried about them going bad (like I often do) I keep some out and some in the fridge, and as I use the room temp tomatoes I take out the refrigerated ones.

08-08-2010, 10:59 PM
Aleesha. yeah I figured you would have one in the kitchen by now if there was room, just thinking of those really slim rectangle kinds that wouldn't take up too much space and yet more counter space.
Is your hubby done with building these cool cutting board drawers? Either way it'll be cool to see pics on how this gives you more room. It's really a great idea. I've already said that! Just love to say it again!! :)

Everybody is so organized! Thanks for the kind words about color choices, but the credit goes to Fiesta for our dishes color scheme and Lisa's wanting to try and coordinate with that.
This shows the greatest part of our counterspace. There's a fair amount of floor space to turn around in, but it's a rearrangement process to begin a new food project most of the time. There's probably enough floor space for us to have a narrow island. We're lacking storage space...we have a shelving unit of food in the living room even, dehydrator stores in laundry room, etc. (:o). I ought not complain though, we are blessed to have a dry place to lay our heads.
To the right is the micro and the kitchen wraps around to the stove and not much storage. Left is the table, and a wire rack with foods, the juicer, bowls and strainer and such, is next to the cat....meet Precious, eating as usual. I told her to wave her tail but she's too interested in her breakfast. A small fan for airflow over the sprouts is mounted at the top of the rack.

Kitty liked your hug and is now purring.;) She says "mmmrrrhh".
The opposite sides cabinets have the base and top row (in place of what is soffit on the other side) in the corn husk, with the middle ones in the butter.
I think someone once commented it was looking like a Rubik's cube.....:D
Did you use a cabinet and trim paint on your doors? I did not and while the yellow's finish is easy to clean, it seems like it marks easily.
Aleesha Sattva
08-09-2010, 11:08 AM
the yellow shows every bit of everything. which is why i've added some purple to my kitchen. the cabinets below the sink were hard to keep looking nice. this way, the purple is semi-gloss and will clean up easier and not stain as much.
that's also why my juicing count is now purple. LOL beet juice stains!
i dont' have doors in my kitchen... so no door frames to do. ;)

Thank you everyone for the compliments! :) Who ever designed my kitchen was a genius, the cupboards are amazing and the space is so functional.
The color is the same all through the ground floor, the house is very open, the only rooms that are divided are the beds and baths so it would be hard to change the coloring but it's warm and with the right accents the color is actually very very nice and goes well with just about everything!
Thanks again, wish I could invite you all over for a raw-tasting party!

in that tank... you are seeing a school of bismarck frontosas, daffodil pulchers and some alto. comp. there are also some cats and plecos in there as well.
in our 125 gallon we have a variety of malawi cichlids, in our 210 gallon we have a collection of plecos (many of them rare/hard to find), eels, bicher, rope fish, cats, botias, rainbows... all community fish. in the 46 gallon in my bedroom, i have fancy goldfish and in our son's room he has a pet blue crayfish. we've really scaled down... we had 13 tanks set up at one time... but i needed more room for living. okay so... at last... i've taken some pics of my kitchen which is finally finished. i took these right before i did the oiling of the cutting boards (one was done and one wasn't) so they are both done now.
you can see my new sink - which i love!!! my new space in my kitchen with my cutting boards which can be hidden under my cupboard if needed. it may be a smallish kitchen but these cutting boards are used every day by me and i love how much they've increased my space! i usually stand with one drawer and board closed... and one open with stuff on it while i juice.
so here it is... the finished job! you can see i got the purple upper cupboard doors done (above the stove) and the yellow cupboards have all been repainted as well.
so i feel like i have a whole new kitchen!

Even though our house was built in the 70s, it's vintage style. I guess I'm trying to bring back a bit of our turn-of-the-century homes we had back in Illinois (sigh). *Ü*

Thanks Deb!
I think the house was built in the 60's....
We did that to the cupboard doors when we remodeled the kitchen 6 yrs ago. They were solid.
My boyfriend also installed the stone counter top - he has some talent!
I am grateful for that - he is a jack of all trades!!
Here's a picture of the bare countertop:

He did a beautiful job on the stone countertops - ooooooh! And what a difference I bet it made to open up the upper cabinet doors like that, great idea :)
I'm looking forward to a kitchen remodel in a few years, until then I'll dream about it - what fun! *Ü*

Cool counter tops Monk! My husband wants me to consider tile on my island. My kitchen is demolished right now and I have just enough room to prep food on the counters that are left. I haven't had a stove for 2 weeks and it is so funny not to even realize that they are gone. I just don't think about it! My plans are to have an island with open shelves and baskets to hold the smaller items. I will have shelves on one wall to hold all the every day dishes and most used items. I'm so excited. I will try to post my pictures when its done.

I have some wonderful news~!
I've recently moved with my mum (I'm currently 15) to Cali, while my great aunt and great grandfather remain in our old home. Ya see, their food used to be everywhere, while I got 2 drawers in the fridge. My aunt would always tsk-tsk when she saw me in the kitchen and hover around me when I was there while she was microwaving or cleaning. Very unpleasant.
But now, my mum has granted me complete authroity of the kitchen! :D She's a vegetarian herself, and she's fine with eating raw food if I make the meals for her. (She wouldn't mind dropping some pounds, either ;)) So now I have all the space and freedom I want within the kitchen, and I have the entire refrigerator to myself!! :D (Though she gets a drawer for non-raw vegan stuff, which for her is soda and walmart juice.) Having the kitchen is such an amazing freedom I've been dreaming of; I've never felt so liberated. :o Just gotta share my joy to the world~

Drolemil that is great to hear and sounds like you have a great mum. So happy for you. Take care of her. You'll want to keep her around for a long time!
Well for me...I got home today to a kitchen and DR coverd in plastic and sheet rock mud. I mean plastic hanging from the walls, light fixtures etc. They sprayed my ceilings today to do a "knock down" texture. Sure stinks. And where the heck is my Vitamix. I put the final 2 cents worth on the design of my island and it will be built tomorrow. It will have open storage and come complete with recycle bin storage. Woot Woot! I cant wait to send pictures.

My Little Kitchen - I plan to purchase a range cover so I can have more counter space when I'm not using the stove. I still cook/entertain for my family and friends (hence the coffee maker) whenever they come over.

I am reading this thread with interest because we are going to be moving our kitchen to a larger room. It is teeny tiny 7 ft x 9 feet!
I have some questions for you folks: Aleesha, is your sink a composite? do you worry about it outgassing? That is what is holding me back from a composite...All that hot water hitting it, with me standing above it.....
And Monk, I love the stone look ---your boyfriend did a great job! But do you find the seams in the counters to be a pain in the butt to wipe? How are you liking the tile so far?
And who knew those great little tents are from Bed, Bath and Beyond?
Thanks everyone,
Mary Kay

it's a resin granite sink - there is no outgassing. ;)

Thanks Mary Kay - Yes, he did a great job! :D
The seams can be a little of a pain to wipe sometimes, but I try to do it right away, so nothing stains them. I love the tile!
Thanks for asking~:)

I probably win the prize for the smallest kitchen. We live full-time in a Motorhome (up north) in the summer and a park model in FL in the winter.
There are cupboards on the opposite side above the dinette and sofa, so there really is a quite a bit of storage. I'm a happy camper. Note there is no oven. A raw fooders heaven - more storage.

k8sl8 --yep, you def win the prize! But you actually have more counterspace than I....sigh.
Monk, thanks for the comeback.
Aleesha --a composite granite sink is only 80% granite and 20% acrylic resin. A while back while looking it up, I came across a site that talked about how the workers who made these needed extra exhaust due to all the formaldehyde outgassing....and then the exhaust was getting into the neighborhoods ...etc. So I am wary. Still no time to finalize my research. I hope though that you are right and I am wrong, because I do like the composite sinks and their price....Just don't like that resin..... I'm also not liking the "green countertops" etc too --"green" because they use recycled aluminum etc -- because of all the unnatural resin used, which doesn't seem very "green" to me.....
I hope to someday be able to post a nice-looking pic here....because right now, you'd never know I was as much into food prep as I am, due to my crappy little kitchen. I do have quite a few "food-prep" appliances/toys though --scattered around the house...
