Hi,
I have my mom on a mostly raw food vegan diet for a long time and her blood pressure is still high ( 140/110).... we just finished a 1 week juice fast, and a three weeks of 100% raw diet....... she has eaten mostly raw and vegan for the last year..... she eats mostly salads dressed with every kind of veggie, she eats fruit, and little to no raw or vegan junk food...... Can someone suggest things we can try to lower the blood pressure to a normal reading?
thanks in advance,
Tim

Does your mom have any other medical problems (IE diabetes) in addition to the hbp? Also, is she currently taking any meds?

Is she doing any type of cardio exercises? That helps.

This is very important. Your heart needs exercise. Diet is important, (you are keeping salt way, as well, right?), but she needs to move her body. This helps with stress as well, which is another thing to think about.
Also, I have to ask...you keep saying 'we'. How does your mom feel about doing this much raw or going on a regime that she might not be 100% behind? If she is not happy about this, this will add to stress. If she is in favor of this, is there any reason she can't be more in control of her life without all this 'we?' Let her be more independent and make decisions on her own, because as much as you may want to help her, this adds to everyone's stress. Independence is a liberating thing!

garlic is a good blood pressure reducer.
Add it to all your sauces and salads, or even chop it up and eat it. True, folks may not want to be around you much, but it can be very effective. Parsley does counter the garlic odor somewhat.

These foods are supposed to be good for controling blood pressure:
apricots
avocados
beets
broccoli
cantaloupe
figs
garlic
lemon
lime
mushrooms
watermelon
Stay hydrated and eat foods that are diuretic, like cucumber and watermelon. (When my brother went on bp meds, the first pill the Doctor prescribed was a simple diuretic.)

Celery.........three stalks a day, every day~
For me, in addition to raw, qigong breathing made a huge difference..any meditational breathing does.
I think it is wonderful that you are in this with your Mom...my daughter and I are very close...wishing you both the best~
