Well......I FINALLY joined the gym 1 minute away from my house...yesterday!! A month late, but hey - it's ON now!!

My goals are to walk on the treadmill 3-4 times per week - in addition to teaching 2 yoga classes on Tues/Thurs.

I'm really looking forward to having some reading time!
It seems the only time I can justify it to myself is when I'm doing something else....like walking on the treadmill...:p...otherwise my mind keeps telling me all the things I "should" be doing......

I also would like to possibly use some of my dvds at home....time permitting.....maybe in the mornings? We'll see......

Hi Monk!
I too have a gym near my house that I've been looking into, and I'm planning on going for the first time tomorrow. =]
My goals.. I suppose are to get into a fairly regular exercising routine, with cardio work - dun dun dunnn. That is the one thing I never ever stick to. I want to feel good, and wouldn't mind looking a bit better too. This is definitely a time to crack-down for me, because my job just became a LOT more sedentary than it has been so far.

Hi Shels!!
Welcome :D

What kind of cardio do you "like"?
I find that walking on the treadmill reading a book helps the time fly by!
I also like to get 2 things done at once.....;)
Congrats on joining the gym!!
I look forward to seeing you here~

Gym is a good place to meet people too! :D

Yoga X today!!! ;)

Love working out now, can't seem to go without it now!!

I never really made it past two months of working out without having to take big long breaks and then workout again! I made it to actually the third month!! I was so tempted to take a big long break, but didn't though!! :D Now, the third month seems to be where now my body is now getting hooked on workouts!! I never really had that feeling before!! It's pretty cool to have it where my body wants to play without my brain telling it to move it!!! That is really awesome!!

Eh.. I haven't found any cardio I really like, lol. I absolutely love to ballroom dance, but have been unsuccessful finding a studio in my current town. I prefer ellipticals for several reasons, (such as going backwards, arms moving as well, and no impact) but I found out yesterday that they are currently broken. :(
I like to walk and read also, as most of my hobbies are totally inactive (reading, drawing, internet-based things, uncooking) so its nice to incorporate a little bit of movement into them.

Anywho, I went yesterday with every intention of giving their zumba class my all, as I have heard a lot of good things about it. However, when a room full of twenty or thirty women start doing specific moves to super-loud hispanic music, I get a bit intimidated. I retired to the cardio-room, and then the sauna. Maybe I'll try something that is actually taught/guided next time.

P90X Yoga X -- I am starting Week 8, which is an easier week than 5, 6, and 7

I needed yoga today - 3 colleagues staying at my house drinking wine like I drink water

Good thing for them it's not a Kenpo day - kicks would be flying!

Hang in there Sport. :p

I am trying to convince myself to do more today. I can't find a suitable gym though. The nice ones are all over-priced, the affordable ones have next to no equipment/hours.

I do not need a gym.
I want to
1. Do the five Tibetian Rites in the morning
2. Walk around the block and run up the set of steps in the afternoon
3. Do a stretching video in the evening.

I achieved all of my targets yesterday.
I did my 5 Tibetians in the morning (with ease).
I walked for 40 mins which included a steep hill that got my heart racing and ran up the steps (heart racing again) and I did some stretching before bed.
That was a perfect exercise day for me but it did lack sunshine. The sun is fantastic this morning so I hope that it stays.

Maybe this will pump up those out there that are having a hard time getting motivated:

John J. Ratey on Google Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bmc0ERKfjP0)

I was training for a half-marathon for the last month and then about a week ago, I seriously injured my iliotibial band and have been pretty immobile since. It wasn't until I stopped my activity that I realized how much it really affects our mood and our brain and our ability to concentrate and learn.

It's been a rough week.

So until my leg is feeling 200%, I'm going to lay off the running. I still want to do the race, and as long as I keep my heart and my muscles active I know I can.

P90X was mentioned in this thread, and that's what I'm going to get back onto again. I have never seen so many positive changes in my body as when I was strict on that program about 6 months ago. The greatest part about building that base is when you go back to it, your body has the muscle memory to bring your body back to where it was faster and easier :D

Good luck everyone.. you can do it!

Joining a bit late in August but never too late??

I walked for 2 hours today, so gorgeous outside. Going to stay outside of the gym and with nature as much as possible. Pilates for only 20 mins. It's a start.

I started up P90X again yesterday... and today I'm really feeling it!

Day one was chest & back. I am also writing down everything I put into my body so I can keep track of how my body responds to different foods.

I have the program & loved it while I was doing it last summer, but my elbow tendons & shoulder got inflammed which made it difficult to do a lot of the moves.....I hope to revisit it someday.....

In the mean time I will live vicariously through those who are doing it!! ;)

walked for 2 hours, pilates & walking around out door mall. I'm thinking about jogging again but get so discouraged from cramps or knee pain... seems to be that walking is the safe and consistant exercise I can stick to, and regardless of how tired or not in the mood I am feeling I can always get my butt up and walk. I'm blessed for my legs:)

Today I finished my 200 hr RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher, with Yoga Alliance) :D

I am super excited~

We had a 2 hour yoga practice this morning + about 30 min of a walking meditation in silence - Loved it!! :)

Finishing up my teacher training made me realize that it is very important to me to have/make a regular practice for myself.
I will continue to go for more trainings toward my 500 hr RYT.....but, in life - we NEVER stop learning~

amarryth~ I've never gone climbing before but I bet it's a lot of fun and a great sweat!

monkapotapus~ All of you yoga talk has inspired me to ask a friend to attend a class with me later this week. Wish me luck. I have done small bits of yoga @ the end of my pilates classes but I need to learn more about it & practice meditation.

As for today, I am only getting my 2 hour walk in, as the heat is keeping me out of the sun in the later part of the day. Once the sun sets I may go for a bike ride. Just got a headlight for my bicycle... never had one before so wish me luck so I don't fall into a man hole of some sort!:p

Everyone keep moving! You're doin great.

Went to my first yoga class (well, I did ONE, once before... sort of a this is what it is class). It was TERRIBLE, lol. I have a replaced knee and the other one isn't too great either... spent too much time trying to figure out how to be on my knees on the mat. Don't think this is going to work for me, unless I can come up with something to support the replaced one that isn't painful.

I really need to do some strength/core/flexibility thing and thought this would be it. I wonder if there is any Yoga for 'cripples' classes... (sorry - not trying to offend anyone - referring to myself only).

K8, have you tried pilates? It is what I stick to because there's no pressure on your joints (at least in the beginner/staple exercises), and I currently have wrist problems.

Today I just went for a very short jog. It's really hot outside, but I had to get moving. I wish there was some cool, outdoor terrain to challenge myself with, lol.
