I'm wondering about a different concern for winter. Once it starts turning cold, my usual carb cravings really intensify to the point where I'm wanting things like breads and pastas at every meal. So, I'm wondering if trying to go raw at this time of year is going to be extra challenging for me. We've had a extra warm September here, but a cold front moved through today and our high for tomorrow is supposed to be 50 degrees though my really intense cravings don't usually kick in until November. What can I do to counter it? Anyone else dealt with this problem?

I'm in Cleveland so we basically have the same weather...just that Cleveland gets it a day or so later.

This isn't a 100% raw answer, but if I really really want bread I eat manna bread. It's sprouted and about as close to raw as you can get (but it's not raw). I also have been eating raw hummus with raw crackers. Oh, and lots of bananas and dates. All of those seem to rid me of carb cravings. Though my cravings have not been intense. Oh, this is not raw either, but I do have brown rice if I feel a strong need for carbs. I believe in listening to your body.

Hope this helps a little.

have you tried raw breads and crackers? they can be really satisfying. I also made a wonderful mac and cheese out of sunflower grass the other day that hit the spot. If you're interested pm me and I'll give you the recipe.

I am moving to Colorado in 2 months and initially I was concerned about wanting warm food in winter. But then I went out and bought a few cookbooks and you would not believe that in the foreword of "Rawsome" by Bridgette Mars she says she avoided going raw for years because she thought it was too cold in Boulder (not an exact quote). Well I knew it was a sign that this was the book I picked out and I've been raw ever since (august).

I say go for it. And if you mess up at least you're working towards being 100%. Just don't blow it, jump right back on the raw wagon!!

I would be really interested in your recipes for raw breads and crackers. I have tried several from one of my books and have not been too impressed. Thanks!

jem, I don't have a dehydrator yet and buy all my crackers and breads from mother's market (in orange county, Ca.). But once I move out of my shoebox apt into my new house in Co. I will be getting one. I can't wait. Sorry I can't help you but if you search it you could probably find tons of yummy recipes!!

I make crackers and I'm going to try making the banana bread soon. We'll see how it goes. As of today it's warming back up and supposed to 80 on Sunday. Not your typical fall weather in Michigan.
