Wow, I'm really excited to have found this place!

Let me introduce myself - I am Islandgrrl. I'm a middle aged woman, mom and wife, living in the pacific northwest on...you guessed it....an island. I love where I am in life, in every respect.

My journey began many, many years ago when, at age 15, I became a vegetarian. I made the transition to vegan about 18 years ago, and started experimenting with raw foods (beyond the obvious raw fruits and salad) about 15 years ago. About 7 years ago, I completely "fell off the wagon" and started eating fish and fowl. I've struggled for a year or so to get back to my comfortable vegan life, and I'm mostly there. I find myself gravitating more and more toward raw foods and have made a conscious effort to choose raw whenever possible, which seems to be most of the time. I try to not approach food and eating with an "I can't have that" attitude, but rather an "I choose not to have that" attitude. I think it's healthier to make a considered choice to not eat something than it is to deprive yourself of something. Does that make sense?

So I'm looking forward to continuing my journey here and learning how to prepare delicious raw treats for myself and my family!

Hi Welcome. I hope that everything goes well for you.
I have been vegetarian for 36 years and can not imagine how a person can go back to eating fish and fowl. How can you take that first bite. I am very curious as I can imagine me starving to death and still saying no I can not eat it.

Absolutely!! You are making peace with food and are becoming the expert of your own body! Besides, feelings of deprivation often lead to intense cravings, binging, and guilt.

Wishing you much success on your raw journey!

It wasn't easy, believe me. And it wasn't something I really wanted to do. At the time I was having serious issues with not getting enough to eat. I was hungry constantly. And it didn't seem to matter how much I ate - I was always hungry. And losing weight. And feeling terrible. No energy, big dark circles under my eyes, always fatigued. My doctor (a naturopath) made the suggestion to try adding some animal protein back into my diet.

The underlying health problem that was causing all of this has been resolved and I've been able to decrease the animal products to the point where I feel okay about eliminating them again.

That's my story!

Hi Islandgrrl!

Years ago, I added dairy back into my vegan diet, then fish back into my vegetarian diet, then I woke up one morning and said ENOUGH!

I went back to vegan and shortly after that to raw. So, I feel ya' :D

Welcome - so glad you're here!
