Does anybody know if raw, barely sprouted, rice, beans, lentils, millet, amaranth, quinoa, wheat, oats, and stuff like that is okay to eat?

(And if it is does it make you fat? I mean they use some of these things to fatten animals!)

I've never tried sprouting rice but I understand it can be slightly bitter. Some people can digest sprouted grains without difficulty - others get indigestion and gas. The only way to know for sure is to try it for yourself.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'barely sprouted'. Provided the sprout tail is at least as long as the seed/bean/grain, the nutritional benefit of the sprouting can reasonably be assumed to have begun (lentils are often eaten at this stage, for example), but most sprouts are allowed to grow for at least 3 days, up until the point of division of the stem (of course, this varies greatly between seed/bean/grain types). There are plenty of books available on this specific subject - I suggest you check them out. I am quite fond of Rawsome!, by Brigitte Mars, since it covers a lot of useful information.

Avoid kidney beans - they are toxic in their raw state, even if soaked or sprouted.

Wheat is generally grown as grass and then juiced, not eaten.

With regard to such foods "making you fat", ANY food will make you fat if you consume it in enough quantity. Please see my remarks on calorie intake in the other thread you began:

Hi lea,

I had sprouted wild rice at the raw food restaurant in san diego, it tasted pretty good. I also sprouted lentils and they were really easy and tasty and I was fine afterwards.
