I'm Deb. I'm an Australian vegan who's considering going raw for reasons of health and weight loss. It's winter here so I'm thinking that waiting a few months before going 100% raw might be a good idea as I'm concerned I may get too cold. I'm certainly thinking about incorporating a higher percentage of raw produce in my diet in the near future, though.

I'm finding some of the stories here inspirational and really like the friendly vibe.

Hi Kilico, and welcome. I've very new as well and learning every day. My DS is off to Sydney in a few weeks (from Canada) to work for a year. I know he's going to love it!

I hope lots of people speak up about eating raw in winter. It seems easy if you live in California but here in Ontario it's COLD in winter and I'm not sure I won't want at least some hot drinks.

We'll see!

Yeah, we're currently having the coldest winter since 1996 here in Melbourne, so I think I'll need my soup :).

And thanks!

Hi Kilico and welcome to RFT!

I live in Northern California and we experienced 8 months of cold, damp weather this year - but I was able to stay raw.

One thing I like to do is mix 1 Tablespoon of unpasteurized miso in a cup of warm water. Sometimes I even add a little seaweed.

You can also warm foods in a dehydrator. For example, you can prepare an oatmeal or buckwheat cereal, put it in the dehydrator while you sleep, and in the morning you have a warm breakfast cereal.

Oh, and chili -- if you have Alissa's book, try her chili recipe!

There are many wonderful spices (like curry) that have a warming effect

Try searching the threads for ideas - there is a wealth of wisdom here!

All the best to you!
