Hey everyone, my name is Carly and I live in Vancouver, Canada. I'm sixteen (seventeen on the eighth!) and I've been vegetarian for a year, vegan for half a year. I want to go raw for three reasons: the first is obvious, weight loss. I gained ten pounds when I stopped eating vegan and I can't stand it. The second, health. I always feel sluggish and ravenous and downright moody, which I never used to feel. The third, spirituality. I feel like this diet will connect me to nature and disconnect me from the urbanism that I've been raised to accept as normal. My mom died of breast cancer so that's double motivation to start living healthy. I only get one life and I want it to be long and filled with joy. Nice to meet y'all! :)

Hi Carley. Sorry about your mum. Glad that you are making this decision. It is the best way to safegaurd your future.
I suggest that you do the following.
Have a green smoothie every day with lots of greens and some celery. This will help with mineral supply.
Make sure that you have plenty calories. The main path to failure on this diet is not eating enough and giving in to temptation through hunger.

I'm very interested in these green smoothies that are all the rage in this diet but I'm not really sure how to go about making them. Do you think you could provide a sample recipe or even just a template?
I know all about getting adequate calories, I've failed diet after diet through starving myself. But today I ate just enough and loved my first day being raw! One day in and I already feel amazing. Sort of alive and energized inside. Cravings and boredom eating gone. I'm looking forward to doing this for a long time.

You can make a green smoothie any way that you like and we all have our own favourites.
Right now what I am making is as follows.
4 fairly large bananas.
about 150 grms of celery
between 450 and 500 grams of cos lettuce (I am currently getting really dark green organic cos)
about 100 grms of either kale or pak choy
10 grms crushed flax seeds or soaked chia seeds
5 grms either sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds.
That will really set you up for the day.

during day i eat fruit and nuts
for dinner a big salad with mixed dark greens / brocoli / tomato / mushroom / onion / greenpepper / avacado / etc , with home made oil - vinegar - garlic - herb dressing . and i sometimes sprinle on sesame seeds or chopped walnut
i drink only water
i take b12 suppliment because ive seen too many smart people
warn to to avoid possible nervous system problems , but they say
for just starting out vegans your b12 stocks shall last over 5 years
before you become deficient
just put that out there so you can see raw food can be simple to do
as ive not special appliances beyond cheap blender which i actually
only use to make almond milk / banana smoothies because they totally own :D
