I read on more than a few sites that during a juice fast, citrus juices should be avoided. No mention of why. Is it b/c of acid content? Some sites don't even mention it, so I assume they are good w/ it.

Do you guys use citrus in addition to your other fruits/vegetables, too?

I use citrus in my juice fast. Also the master cleanse is basically a juice fast using only citrus juice.

I haven't ever heard about not using citrus while fasting. But I'm no expert on fasting. I've only read lots of information from the internet.

One of my favorite drinks that has citrus goes like this. Orange/firm pear/apple/and a chunk of yam a little bigger than the orange.

Do you recall the reason why it was said to avoid citrus while on a juice fast? Ohh whoops, I just went back and saw that you mentioned that there was no mention why to avoid it.

i use citrus all the time. i know people who have fasted on citrus alone for over 100 days... so i have no idea why they would put that limitation on someone's juice.

but... follow what your body says. if you drink citrus and don't feel well... then don't drink it. if you drink it, feel great, want more... go for it LOL

as you can see... freedom for you (http://www.freedomyou.com/fasting_book/juice%20recipes.htm) suggests citrus during a juice fast!

and i found this:

Useful Juices For Detox Juice Diets

Citrus juices are a powerful option for juice fasting, because aside from the nutrients they provide, the organic acids in citrus fruits are powerful at flushing out inorganic acids in the body, such as those that build up in the joints and cause arthritis. While citrus is an acidic fruit, the acids convert to alkalizing substances in the body, so this acidic fruit is in fact highly alkalizing to the body. A body that is chronically acidified and is not alkaline is a breeding ground for disease, so this is a very good thing.

Wheatgrass is one of the more popular juices to use on a detox juice diet, and has many detoxifying properties. Other similar green juices and supplements that complement wheat grass nicely are barley grass, alfalfa grass, chlorella, and spirulina.

Grape and apple juices are great choices for detox juice diets when they are fresh and in season. While not as powerful as citrus for flushing inorganic acids, they are still highly effective if used consistently over a sufficient length of time.

Beet and carrot juices are also quite popular, and provide a great range of nutrients. Beet juice is a great blood builder, and is on the first row list of tools when it comes to anyone who has any sort of anemia related issues. from here (http://www.all4naturalhealth.com/detox-juice-diet.html)

the only sites i found that cautioned citrus... said it was only a caution for diabetics.

For me personally, citrus is baaaad on an empty stomach. I guess it depends on the person though.

I will go back and see if I can find some of the reasons why. I know some didn't mention diabetes and I only recall that because I know my mom could not have it and I was thinking what I would have given her if I knew about this stuff when she was sick. But, some did not say that was why....

I use citrus anyway but not only citrus simply because I thought it would be bad on enamel and as some of us have seen, citrus on an empty stomach hurts.

I will go search some more.
Thanks...Happy 4th of July
