View Full Version : flying solo in upper michigan!

Hi there everyone! I just moved from Fort Collins, CO. (which has an abundance of health food stores such as wild oats and whole foods) to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (which has nothing of the sort). I began the raw diet about six months ago and was getting to the point where I couldn't remember the last thing I ate that was cooked. It is going to be a lot harder up here with the lack of fresh produce, so I may need some encouragement! Cheers everyone, Jeff

Hi Jeff, welcome. Good to meet ya!! I hear the U.P. is lovely, but a bit isolated. Hope you can find a good source of goodies up there. Maybe this is the opportunity for you to start growing your own. Would that not be terrific. It is my ultimate aim in life.

I'm with Sport! Grow your own if possible! Make is possible, build a green house in the house? Sprouts don't take much thank goodness. We are here for you Jeff!

Hi, I'm a troll, since I live under the bridge. ;) I've heard there's a good co-op in Houghton, but haven't heard of any other places. The U.P. is a beautiful place, but definitely not overrun with even your basic vegetarian. When we vacation there, we stay where we can take our own food along.

The growing season is definitely short, but if you could do a green house that would help some. For those not from Michigan, I think the U.P. has had snow in every month except July.

My parents love to watch the big ships and they go up to Sault Ste Marie a couple times a year.
