Starting Independence Day off with a red, "white", and blue smoothie (fresh strawberries and blueberries, and a frozen banana). I also juiced some green grapes and golden delicious apples together and made the most amazing apple/grape juice - I cannot believe that I EVER thought that store-bought juice was good!

So yesterday before we went out on the lake, we went to a farmers' market (my first time ever!) and I was astonished... I bought 3 big bunches of kale for $1 each, and when I got them home and compared them to the ones I bought for $2.49 the other day at the store (turning brown on the edges, kinda limp, etc), there was just really no comparison, so I can't wait to taste the fresh ones. I also bought some garlic scapes. I've heard about them, but have never had them or even used them, so I've been researching and I think tonight I'm going to get brave and try my kelp noodles and make a garlic scape pesto to go on them. I'm excited, as it sounds like it'll be tasty. I'm sure for lunch I'll either make the kale/avocado salad or just a big green salad.

I hope everyone has a great 4th of July! :)

Hi there,

I just got back from vacation and vowed to start this when I got back so this is my day 1. I joined this website a year or so ago I think, but didn't even stick with it for the whole month. This time I want to at least do the month and then see.

I just got back from the grocery store and bought a whole wack of produce, nuts and seeds. I also got some spirulina powder for my green smoothies.

The smoothie I am gulping down now contains:

- apple
-pumpkin seeds
- kiwi
- almonds
- sunflower seeds
- ground flax seeds
- kale
- spinach
- carrots
- celery
- water
- spirulina

Yikes! My boyfriend made it and I was shocked when he just told me so I could type it down. That's a lot of stuff! It's not exactly tasty but it's not exactly disgusting either. Bottoms up!

I'm really disappointed in the kelp noodles - the texture is nauseating, and I ended up dumping the whole bowl of them in the garbage. :(

The pesto I made smells amazing, and it's tasty, although borderline too garlicky... but spread thinly on crackers it's yummy. :)

I'm back....

For the rest of the day I had an apple, a simple green salad, and I'm just now munching on a delicious tomato soup. I've decided to call it salsa soup because the cilantro gives it a salsa-y flavor. And bonus! It took me all of five minutes to make and clean the kitchen. Luckily for me, I've never minded raw garlic too much so it will be an excellent thing for me to use to spice up a soup!
