What's the best way to soak these? water? olive oil? The ones I bought were from Whole Foods and they are packaged in a container like the small containers of basil, oregano, etc. They are not canned or jared. I'm planning on using them for Alissa's marinara sauce but not sure how long they should soak before I use them.

You'll LOVE Alissa's marinara sauce. I use the sun dried tomatoes from whole foods in the plastic bag - they are really good.

I soak them in water until they are slightly soft -- not really sure on the time, as I usually put them in to soak early and go off and do other things. So I'm guessing ..., about 20-30 minutes or so. You just want them soft enough to blend into the sauce and not be chunky.

I save the soak water and see if I need it to thin out the sauce. If not, I use it in salad dressing.
