I think it's time to start another fasting thread. The other one is getting a little long (as usual) and I find that when a new thread begins... so many more people join in and I love fasting with others!

So... let's do this.

Here's are the 'rules' of this thread:

Please do not discuss specific food. Feel free to share "My hubby was eating and it was hard for me." Please don't share "My hubby was eating X, Y and Z..."

The reason we do this is so no one ends up getting a craving from a fasting thread. As a faster we can choose to click on a thread which discusses food but we need the safety within this thread to know food is not discussed. Juices are shared, green smoothie recipes are shared... but not 'chewable' food.

Here's my commitment:

I'm here to fast. I'm not here to eat. I will fast until I choose to stop but I will NOT stop my fast on a bad day, at night or today. I can choose to break my fast tomorrow but not today.

I'm here to gain health.
I'm here to gift my body the time and energy to bring my body to a state of health.
I'm here to release - whatever needs to be released. Physical, emotional, conscious or unconscious things... I'm here to release them all.
I'm here to bring a greater depth to my spirituality.
I'm here to support myself and others.

And most of all... let's remember that we are all in charge of our own fasts. No one has the 'key' or the one and only answer to anything. Don't just allow yourself to be spoon fed information. Remember that research is your friend... and google is your friend as well.

Now... let's fast! Who wants to join me?

I'm here I'm here... I actually decided to start a new thread since my number one fasting buddy is breaking her fast today so having others to share this journey with would be lovely.

(((Cathy I miss you already)))

I'm in my third week of fasting... this morning I sipped on some cantaloupe juice. So yummy!

I think I'm taking pineapple/raspberry/strawberry/kale and cantaloupe/mint with me to work today. 4 litres in total. AND of course some fasting love tea!

OK OK!! I am on Day 8 of the MC! Lost 8 pounds and have had some detox symptoms: runny nose, itchy-ness on skin, chapped lips..

Feeling good, other than that, and have been going to the gym 1-2 times a day! I figure that my body will tell me if I shouldn't go to the gym, but so far, I have been feeling like I am only getting better and better endurance since I have been on the MC..

Aleesha Sattva

niiiiiiice. I love endurance!!!

day 8... you go girlfriend! do you have a goal or are you just going with the flow?

Yesterday I didn't drink a swf in the morning like I had been doing. Then yesterday night I began feeling some detox stuff. So this morning I again drank that stuff and I feel all better.

Just a moment ago I made some tomato/red bell pepper/celery/cilantro/red onion/garlic/ginger/jalapeno/ACV/powdered cayenne pepper/sea salt/ and some fresh picked white radishes from the garden with greens.

My stomach isn't sure what to do with all those nutrients and spices at the moment. If it was all in a !@#$%^&*( dip then I'd be chowin down. I think my stomach is happier with the fruit juices I've been giving it.

I've been getting a few greens in but I'd say more fruit.

I don't know what it is that's giving my stomach the uneasyness. I eat all that stuff together when I'm not fasting. But a couple of things I hadn't juiced before. Like the onion and jalapeno.

The juice tastes good but the stomach can't figure out what to do. I've been sipping water to see if I can squelch the rumblyness. Which seems to be working. And I put some ice in the juice to see if that'll help. For now it seems like a drink that I'll need to sip.

Now that I get this far it seems that the stomach is beginning to say....."oh wait a second.....I know what all this good stuff is. Lemme have some more please.":p sip :D

I haven't decided how long I'm gonna fast. I think I'm gonna stop once I run out of produce. Which is probably another 4-5 days I'm guessing. I'm gonna order Alissa's book too and just transition off the fast into all raw.

Thanks for the thread too BTW. It's nice to get on and read. Just being able to read about everyone else and what they're doing is tremendous support.

I hope so!!! I'm thinking of spending some time in the sauna tonight... although I'm wondering if that'll be a good idea since I'm still recovering from my hot tub detox the other night LOL.

I'll decide when the time comes to get in. I may just stay on the couch with my heating pad... I am loving the warmth radiating through my body right now!

Cathy... thank you for posting. You have no idea how sad I've been today. I'm sooooo blissed out for you completing your fast but I'm being selfish with my thoughts... I'm sad to fast without you. (((hug)))

((hug)) back at you. I would love to visit with you. Who else can I talk LOTR with :p. You were such an important part of my fast Aleesha.. I know how you feel!!

Actually... I was just telling my hubby that maybe I'll do another fast in a few weeks. I really love how I feel fasting. Yes.. it has its hard points, but its soooo rewarding too.

I'm still going to take my baths and relax. Did you get your water in today??

Cathy :D

Aleesha Sattva
06-29-2010, 10:48 PM
I didn't drink a drop of water... not a drop.

I will make sure to drink lots tomorrow though. Thanks for reminding me Cathy!

I'll happily fast with you anytime, anywhere... anyhow! You are a great fasting buddy... and who else will have elevenzees with me?

MUCH better out than in.:p

I ordered my book today.:D Gonna get a dehydrator soon too. But the company is on vacation till the 5th.

I LOVE this juice, yam/apple/orange/pear. Then sometimes I'll add a carrot if I run out of pears. Or cantaloupe. Or some cherries. SOOOOO GOOOOOOD. LOL A firm pear juices better for me. And I get jumbo yams so I usually cut em in half so they're a little larger than the orange.

I had one of those drinks today sometime. I also had a watermelon/cherry drink. And a little bit ago I made another watermelon/cherry/cantaloup/kale

Congrats on your fast GoodCat. If I recall correctly, I read that you went somewhere around 4 weeks?

Aleesha Sattva
06-30-2010, 08:32 AM
yup she went 4 weeks! :D

i'm up early... went to bed really early as well so i'm pleased. got a good nights rest.

very weird dreams again last night. not scary weird though which is good considering how my dreams have been lately.

Good Morning Fasters...

I too am drinking my first qt. of water as I sit here at my computer. You have to get those fluids in :).

Yes.. 4 weeks of fasting. It was by far the longest I've fasted and it's the only time I did a juice fast. The others had been smoothies fasts. So I felt really good about it. Its made me want to fast more often than not. It feels so good to let your body rest and heal. I love it!!!!

It sounds like everyone is doing so well... Great job!!

Day 9 and finally back under 150! Grrrrrrr! I gotta be better when I go back to eating, and will continue the boot camp at the gym. (2 hours a day, 4 days a week, plus another hour on Sunday)!!

My problem is: my husband is not raw, and even though I am high-raw, I do cave in and eat out (cooked) with him too often! grrrrrrrrrr! I am definitely giong to insist on no more than ONE cooked meal out per week--at most. Between that, the rest of my food raw, and the gym boot camp, I hope to continue losing weight after the cleanse!

I'll prob make July 5th my last day, so it'll be a 14 day cleanse..

Lost 8.5 pounds so far..

Aleesha Sattva
06-30-2010, 11:56 AM
congrats on the weight release and the awareness that you are finding.

i am so tired today. i could go back to bed!!!

i just had a bath, thought that would wake me up but noooooooo. i cleaned the kitchen... and am back on the couch cause i'm feeling so exhausted.

i need more sleep. perhaps tonight will bring me more rest. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Hello hello,

I'm all new to this site. But I'm gonna start my first juice fast tomorrow (thougt July 1st would be a good day to start).
Anyway, juicing isn't new to me - I've been juicing both fruit and vegetables throughout the last year.

Hmm.. I think some info about me would do good, so:
I'm a 20year old girl. When I was about 18 I weight 87 kg and was really inactive. From one day to the next I decided it had to end, and spread out over a year I lost about 30 kg, eating healthier, doing sport and so on.

Now, I wanna take it to a new level. I've been raw for about 1 month (nothing much, I know), and it feels great. It just feels natural to me.
I wanna do this juice fast - and I don't know for how long, I don't know whats realistic? - to get a step nearer ultimate health, to explore myself and my conciousness.

Any advice or something? I guess I'm just looking for some kind of support, some vise people who've done it before and so on.

Thanks!

Aleesha Sattva
06-30-2010, 12:41 PM
welcome bella! you can fast for whatever length you like. i myself find the first 21 days are a good beginning... i like to go for 45 days. that's a nice fast. of course, there's also the 92 day juice feast (you can find the details online)...

that's what is so great about fasting. no matter how long you do, your body thanks you for it!

congrats on your weight release.

BellaCp
06-30-2010, 12:56 PM
Thanks !

How many days' realistic, on ones first fast?

Since I spend a lot of time on the run.. is it recommendable to make the juice (for the intire day) in the morning and just bring it along? Or is it better to.. perhaps buy it at a juice bar during the day?

ANYTHING I SHOULD KNOW? I feel like I'm missing some.. something. some information.. or. Just feel like there's a missing link..

Aleesha Sattva
06-30-2010, 12:57 PM
Read the older fasting threads... so much info in there Bella.

You can make your juice earlier in the day depending on the juicer you have. If it's centrifugal, you can't. You need to conume it immediately. If you have a greenstar or champion you can.

just had my tomato blend for dinner. very nice. held back on the spices a bit cause last night i swear i almost burned off my tastebuds with too much cayenne LOL

today has been lovely. i went for a walk in the sunshine with my daughter. just what i needed. we rented 4 movies and watched one. i'm feeling so much better now!

ahhhhhh fasting... i love the ebb and flow of it all.

Good to hear that you're feeling better. Detox isn't too fun. Luckily I haven't had too bad of detox symptoms so far. A couple days back though when I decided not do the SWF I set myself up for detox symptoms. That night my throat got sore and by the morning it was sore and my ears were a little sore.

So I went back to the SWF in the mornings. I'm gonna try and taper em off though again cus I don't wanna keep doing em every day. I still have a little bit of a sore throat. Just barely enough to notice.

Aleesha - It's funny with your dreams cus when you posted the few that I've seen I had the same types as you.

I may have to do a soaking in a hot tub too. I didn't know it was great for detoxing. I actually have been avoiding em because of the chlorine/bromine. So perhaps a hot shower instead cus I don't have a bathtub to soak in either.

Had me a yam/apple/orange/carrot drink in the am. Delicious.

A little bit ago I drank beet with greens/celery/carrot/lemon/red bell pepper/spinach/kale/collard green. Pretty good too.

I may have to go back and try a tomato drink again later tonight. This time without all the spice.:p But ya know I just gotta try the cayenne in it again cus it's soo good. Plus it's so good for ya and especially how it gets the blood flowing so I'm thinking it may help cleanse/heal the body quicker. But I do just like licking it off my finger.:p

Aleesha Sattva
06-30-2010, 10:23 PM
my friends don't use chlorine... or i wouldn't have gotten in the tub. and i didn't know they were good for detox... i discovered it LOL

be careful with heat and fasting. you can get very dizzy... so be careful not to faint!

i usually go into the sauna or bath and then lay down for 30 minutes to allow my blood pressure to rise again.

i've drank very little today. my hubby wasn't around to pamper me with juices so my lazy self didn't bother making enough. oh well... tomorrow should be better!

GoodCat
06-30-2010, 11:25 PM
I am soooo missing that fasting feeling. I may be back sooner then later :rolleyes:.

I definately love the baths when fasting. I like to put some lavendar oil in too.

Thanks for letting me know that your friends don't use chlorine. I probably would of popped into a tub if I hadn't known that. Also thanks for the heat and fainting tip. I may jump into a hot shower tonight so I hope I don't go for a whirlwind of detox like you did. But if I do then I'll be happy that it's released those toxins so they can come out, so perhaps that's what I do want.:D yes,no,yes,no. LOL

Yeah hopefully you get more juices tomorrow. I'm thinking of drinking another one tonight. Kinda craving the tomato's. But at the moment I'm full from a orange/cantaloupe drink.

I sure seem to be getting lots of fruit drinks in. Do you think it would be better if I get more green veggie drinks? "dumb question. I suppose I just need the motivation.:p"

If I make a tomato drink I'm gonna put in some dark leafy greens.:p

One other thing. I think I read somewhere that fruits clean and greens heal while fasting. Does that mean fruits find the toxins and pull em out and the greens repair the body tissues?

Aleesha Sattva
06-30-2010, 11:36 PM
i like rose in my bath. reminds me of my mom. (((hugs)))

and i hear ya cathy... i really miss it when i'm not fasting. that's part of the reason i'm doing a longer fast this time around. first off... i didn't get to fast last year much and second... i find that i fast, eat for a few days and then fast again. so why eat for a few days? why not just take the healing energy i'm gifting my body and gift it long term?

tonight was hard... in waves. it was ease, then hard, then ease, then hard. so odd.

Aleesha Sattva
06-30-2010, 11:40 PM
One other thing. I think I read somewhere that fruits clean and greens heal while fasting. Does that mean fruits find the toxins and pull em out and the greens repair the body tissues?

yup - sure does!

i was in the hot tub for a long time... all evening. in and out and in and out. probably over an hour in total. not wise at all... and i didn't enjoy the detox feeling afterwards for two days. i don't advise it at all.

i fast on fruit juices 95% of the time... and i always tell people... drink what brings you bliss. don't force down something you don't want, chances are your body doesn't want it either cause if it wants it... you'll crave it.

for example: i am craving kale in my juices. so i juiced all the kale from my garden and froze it in ice cubes. now i add them to my pineapple juice and my tomato blend. mmmm i'm loving it!

Aleesha Sattva
06-30-2010, 11:41 PM
the only other advice i have for you is this:

stay away from food talk. don't read recipes, don't look at cookbooks, don't watch cooking shows... cause trust me on this... you'll end up breaking your fast early.

trust me... stay away from food talk! (say you in another thread commenting about food...) ;)

cathy... so when are you coming back?

ViolinCyndee
07-01-2010, 12:04 AM
Amazingly, I have no trouble with food talk, cookbooks and even making dinner for my husband while fasting! I just find that I go on auto-pilot! I also think that the very regimented routine of the MC is why I don't have trouble sticking to it....

Looking forward to Day 10 tomorrow!

Aleesha Sattva
07-01-2010, 12:16 AM
i don't have a problem with it about 95% of time anymore either... but when i was fasting the first few years... i sure did.

so glad you don't though cyndee.

day 10... YIPPPEEEEE

Aleesha Sattva
07-01-2010, 12:33 AM
actually i was sitting here thinking about it and honestly... i think it's more that i know how to manage myself on a fast now. i don't go into food threads unconsciously. i don't watch cooking shows (my hubby loves them) unless i'm in the right state of mind.

i don't sit in the living room while everyone is preparing dinner and eating if i'm having a hard time.

i just go into my zone... i know i can take a bath, go for a sauna, go for a walk, meditate in my room etc. when these things happen... so it doesn't cause me to break my fast. i just move through it.

but... i'm also in a different space now. in the early days... just leaving the bathroom was hard cause the pantry is on the other side of the bathroom. you see it when you come out. now... seeing the pantry doesn't bother me cause i've lived with it for - what - about 500 fasting days now LOL - it's no longer an issue.

;) just wanted to share more... hope no one minds... http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x87/recyclinggoddess/blahblah.gif

I don't mined.... I love to talk.. can you tell :).

Boy... I would love to have 500 fasting days under me, but I'm getting there ;).

I know I want to fast again at the end of next week, but I'm thinking of doing a day here or there until then. I'm still trying to learn how to make my actions line up with what my heart wants to do.

You know, when I was just fasting, I still had to cook for my family. It wasn't too hard. I did get into a zone. But when I would look on-line too long at recipes and such, I did notice that I craved more. And if I commented on these boards, I did so with a purpose like you said Aleesha, you almost have to.

Peace!

YES... Day 10!! And only craving healthy raw foods, too! I'll be hosting a raw potluck on July 31st, and am looking forward to that!

Minor detox, but my cold sore (or fever blister?) is going away now.. Not bad. Alot less annoying that it was a few days ago!

I have my HS reunion on the 10th and know I'll be eating normal food next Fri, so have to start to wind it down on Tues, making Monday my last day. This will be my shortest MC yet, but I plan on doing a longer one next time!

I can relate to those cooking shows. When I did a MC in feb., I was constantly salivating and watching them.:p

Aleesha - It's nice to hear ya say to just juice what you crave. And that day before posting that I was thinking to myself I need more yams so I could make more of those drinks. And I was saying in my head that there must be something in that drink which my body craves.:D So so gooood.

I woke up and ate two large spoons full of coconut oil and drank some lemon water with it. I was trying to stimulate my gallbladder and do a liver flush. I dunno if it's worked or not. But I read on these forums somewhere that someone did just that and had a very successful flush.

Has anyone else done a liver flush while fasting? Has anyone else done one and been successful while fasting? It seems like an opportune time to do one. But I'm not gonna be drinking no dang epsom salts ya hear.:p LOL yuck.

I just got back from town. With another weeks worth of produce.:D I got an eggplant too. I've never had one so any good things to combine it with? I also finally got my pineapple. MMMMM that's gonna be a good juice. And a coconut. What should I mix my coconut water with? Pineapple juice?

Can I freeze my coconut once I take the water out and save the meat for later? Seems logical right?

Aleesha Sattva
07-01-2010, 05:29 PM
yup you can freeze it.

having a good day. one litre of juice down so far... a cup of tea. not much but i'll do some more while i watch my movie.

i'm going to try the chocolate mint herb in with grapes today. then i'm going to try it with my watermelon when i juice another. i still have litres in the fridge that i need to consume today before i go making any more.

GoodCat - do you have any information on learing to start a co-op. This may be an option for me so that I can get ahold of stuff that I can't pick up from town.

I may be making some pineapple juice today too.:D We'll see, cus I am experiencing a sore throat, and I noticed last night that the OJ last night felt a little harsh. Do you ever add coconut water. I'm not sure what to do with my coconut. Maybe just drink it by itself?

Cyndee - I'm juicing, but I did a MC back in feb. I don't think I'll do one again. The flavor of that drink still makes me cringe.:p I just don't have the willpower to force myself to drink it. Congratulations on your MC. It sounds like you are doing excellent.:D

I think the liver flush I did yesterday morning worked. I really dunno cus I didn't go fishing to find out. But it felt like small round objects came out.:p I suppose if the same thing has worked for others I should of experienced the same.?

I still am dealing with a sore throat and some ear pain. Not very much but just enough to notice. I think the throat pain is coming from my ears. Any tips to relieve em?

I think it's the fourth day with these symptoms? What's the longest you all have dealt with detox symptoms?

i don't usually detox long when i fast. but then... i fast a lot LOL not much in the way of toxins left in this bod.

have you thought of a day of water only? perhaps your body needs some assistance to just release release release and water is the best way to achieve that. ;)

***note... if you are drinking anything and adding dairy to it... this could be your body's way of staying please stop!***

I looks like its pineapple juice first today! I love pineapple juice!! I really wish I had some chocolate mint. What a treat that would be!

I'm wanting to do a longer fast after the 10th. Maybe 2 weeks. During that time I'm wanting to try to water fast at least one day. I'm hopeful I'll be able to do it and maybe it will bring deeper healing.

Aleesha - Thanks for the water tip. Yesterday I was actually wondering if I drank water for a full day if it would help me detox quicker.:p

I've not consumed anything with dairy. The only things besides fruit/vegetable juices I've been using is, ACV, MSM powder, Real Salt, Cayenne Pepper, Coconut Oil. Oh, and I had a little bit of bee pollen on my first or second day. Is there any reasons why I should avoid any of those?

GoodCat - Thank You. That would be very nice.

Fasting through the weekend is gonna be so nice too. I have some family visiting and there's gonna be lots of SAD indulging.

nope you can have those on a juice fast. no problem.

here's the breakdown for detox:

dry fasting - highest level of detox
water fasting
juice fasting
juice feasting (2 gallons of juice per day)
green smoothie feasting
eating raw food - high level of detox but not like fasting is.
SAD food - little to no detox

swf = salt water flush

Here's a couple links

http://hubpages.com/hub/salt_water_flush
http://ezinearticles.com/?Salt-Water-Flush---Bathe-Your-Insides&id=639833

I skimmed those articles. I don't use any lemon. And I chug the drink. Drinking it slowly can cause it to not wanna exit the body anytime soon. Or so that's what I read somewhere about someone that sipped it slowly and also took a while to finish it.

I also use rounded teaspoons. Cus if you don't get enough salt then you can also retain the drink instead of expelling it. So I make sure that I use enough. And two rounded teaspoons is plenty enough to be effective.:D

Now onto how the day's been going for me so far.

I'm on my third drink/quart for today. Lets see, I've had some, H/2/O not bad. LOL:p

i am no longer grumpy. i am cherishing this moment. the quiet of my home. the sound of the fish tank. the dogs at my feet. the love that fills this home.

Sorry to hear that Aleesha.:( I too now feel selfish with my question I wanna ask. Sometimes when we only see ourselves we think the world is so small. But there are so many others that aren't as blessed as we are right now in this moment. It's very nice to just take some time and reflect at everything we do have and see the miracles of life. It sure makes me humble at all that life has blessed me with.

Cyndee - I was taking about the lemonade drink. I think it's probably the syrup in the drink that gets to me.

Coffee. Is coffee ok to drink while on a fast. I don't like coffee and I don't drink it anymore. I used to drink it like 5-6 years ago as a kind of social morning ritual for a couple years.

But I have used it in the past one time for an asthma flareup cus I didn't have an inhaler. I think the doctors gave me allergies from loading me with drugs before I even have any recollection of it. So it was well before I was 3 years old. And asthma has been something else I've had to deal with from time to time when the allergy season approaches.

I have organic coffee and the only way I would drink it is as strong as possible and straight black. I only have the organic coffee for other things, I don't drink it. And I know that I've read from researching fasting that many suggest giving up coffee several days before going into a fast. Otherwise the detox may be much stronger.

I dunno if sipping a little coffee so I can get my airways open would cause me to have to go through this asthma detox again or if it'll just allow me to breath while my body detox's the asthma stuff from my body. Which is most likely the allergy and asthma drug residue causing the asthma.

I tried sipping a hot drink of acv last night but it really didn't do anything. I woke up just a moment ago and still have a hard time breathing. So I'm just looking for any good input as to the yea's or na's for drinking some coffee this morning. I would also only be drinking enough to cause my airways to open.

If I do drink some, do you think that when my body detox's the coffee it'll cause me to have an asthma flareup again. Or do you think that the asthma is from all those drugs from the doctors? And then the coffee will be detoxed in a different way like a headache or something? I personally think the asthma is from the prescriptions and any detox from the coffee later on will be it's own seperate thing. But I would still like to hear opinions and someone to hold my hand here.:p LOL

Thank you both. We have healing circles set up for them. I have a large group of Reiki Master/Teachers and students who work together. So we are on it. Just brings me back to earth very quickly when I get news like this.

coffee... in your case I'd say definitely drink it. It's medication for you and it works. Much better than the alternative IMO. As for detox... I wouldn't worry about it. It'll just blend in with the rest of your detoxing.

In this moment... I'm waiting for my hubby to return home. He's been gone for almost a week - assisting a friend in need.

I am in need of my car to get cantaloupes and chocolate mint for juices so this is timely indeed! (((hugs)))

i just sucked back... a lovely juice!

lots of red grapes
2 apples
1 kiwi
handful of raspberries fresh off the bush
1 long sprig of chocolate mint (herb)

ohhhhhhhhhhh mama is this gooooooooooooooooood!!! the chocolate mint leaves a minty freshness to your mouth. ahhhh nice aftertaste indeed!

This mint juice sounds good. I'm going to keep very open eyes next time I'm in the grocery store trying to find some. :eek: <--- Open eyes. lol

I'm happy that I read you post this morning Aleesha. I was gonna try and just contend with it all day, but I with your support I made me some strong black. It sure worked very nicely.

I juiced my pineapple this morning. My omega sure has a difficult time juicing soft fruits. I kinda wish I would of spent an extra hundred and got the omega vert. I also added the coconut water to the pineapple. Delicious.

Then later I had another yam/oj/apple/pear/lime concotion.

I may end up having a green drink tonight with some beet.

I ended up saving my mom some pickles that I mad cus I knew she was coming and that juice smells so good. Do you think it would be ok to drink the pickle juice? It's a probiotic juice. I used kombucha and salt to allow the pickles to ferment. It's all raw and just full of probiotics from the fermenting. Is it a bad thing to ingest probiotics while on a juice fast?

I think I read that on a water fast all your probiotics go away cus you are not ingesting anything for em to sustain life. But are they still present while on a juice fast? I also have kimchi juice.:D And I've read that juice from fermented vegetables makes a great tonic and is very healthy to drink. If not I'll gladly wait and allow it all to ferment even longer and drink it when I end my fast.

I also thought I read from one place that said to avoid kombucha because of the probiotics while fasting. And of course I've read someone's blog that drank kombucha while juice fasting. So I dunno what is to be avoided and for what reason.

To me it seems that if you are juice fasting then the probiotics will still be alive because of all the enzymes and such going in there. But I really haven't read much about probiotics and what exactly they are consuming.

Sorry my posts seem to keep getting so long. I just have so many things I wanna learn.:p

Aleesha - I also sent a little healing energy your direction. I'm no practiced healer but I've used it on my animals here and there. One thing that is powerful for me is to gaze at the sun just as it's falling over the horizion in the evening and ask for what's needed. I live in a valley so my sungazing has fallen out of practice.:( I would need to drive about 30 minutes to reach a place where I can safely gaze again.

I'm going to join in on all the fasting fun! :D

I'm so excited to be here!

I have only fasted a couple times - one 6 day Master Cleanse & a couple smoothies fasts here & there......

My issues seem to happen after my fasts....I end up not breaking it correctly & go into a binge cycle.....so, what's a girl to do? :confused:

Get a FASTING COACH!

Lol - yup, that's exactly what I did......

Who better to enlist as a fasting coach other than our very own Aleesha!!

I'm so glad I decided to go ahead with this - we had a wonderful phone conversation & she told me all about fasting and how to go about it - all my questions (at this time) were answered.

I've decided to set out for a 21 day fast......minimum & with Aleesha by my side to help guide me......the outcome can only be positively AMAZING! :cool:

So, with my 1st day almost coming to an end here's what I got in (I was gone 1/2 of the day)

~64 oz water.....I will probably still have more
16 oz kombucha - this one was the GT brand - raw - I also make my own & plan to consume it during this fast
12 oz juice - apple, pineapple, red cabbage, celery & orange
24 oz juice - orange, grapefruit
12 oz tea~

Tomorrow I will work on getting more fluids in me - today I didn't have a lot of options......

I'm so happy to join everyone!......Can you tell I'm excited? :p

try blending your pineapple in a blender and then putting into a nut mylk bag (or paint strainer bag) and milking the bag to get out all the juice. ;)

i would look at your garden centre for the mint... rather than a grocery store. chances are you won't find it. ;) but who knows... i'm happy to be wrong about this!

kumbacha... the only person i know how is against it is the people who run the 92 day juice feast site. i'm not sure of the reason, but they have people stop drinking it.

i've known fasters to consume it during their fasts and not have any neg. effects that they were aware of... so... i don't have an answer for you except,... try drinking it and see if it agrees with you or not.

personally i would recommend you wait to consume the pickle or kimchi juice. it may keep your digestion going... and the idea of fasting is to allow it to rest. that may be why kombacha is not recommended??? i will look into this further.

thank you sooooo much for the healing. i know i'm emotionally detoxing right now... and to have my friends who i love so dearly so ill... makes me even more sad. i appreciate everyones support!

welcome my little monk... it was so great hearing your face and deepening a connection with you. just knowing someone on the forum is one thing... talking on the phone is another. (((hugs)))

~~~
now let's talk about me for a moment.
i made a GREEN tomato juice blend tonight and it was really yummy.
from my garden:
fresh kale, lettuce (variety), 2 green onions, garlic scaps (4), 2 sprigs of basil and tomatoes. my usual spices and YUMMMMMY!!! it was brown... looked like toilet water... which kinda made it a little difficult to get it down, but it was yummy. oh i put lots of celery in as well!
Aleesha Sattva
07-03-2010, 10:12 PM
as soon as I read this... I knew that I already knew the answer. *slaps self in the head*
from the 92 day juice feasting site:
Q: Can I drink Kombucha Tea on a Juice Feast?
A: Kombucha Tea is an excellent transitional element in shifting into a cuisine of living foods. It is loaded with probiotics, and many people achieve some benefits in their health as they shift. That being said, Kombucha is made with processed sugar and black tea, and has a caffeine content to it that is not desireable on a cleansing programme. Please hold off on the Kombucha until you are completely broken out of the Juice Feast, and then drink in moderation - a few ounces a day max.
Welcome Monk. It's nice to have another person join in the posting.
Thanks for digging up that information Aleesha.
For everyone. Mustard greens are peppery. I didn't know this. I just saw some in the store and figured I'd give this type of green a try in my beet juice with greens. Whoa. I had no clue. I couldn't drink it so I froze it so that I can break off a chunk here and there and just eat it slowly over a week or whatever. My stomach just doesn't like those spices at the moment.
My fridge has been freezing all my produce so now all the greens are limp. I assume that they are still fine to juice cus I have read somewhere that when you freeze fresh juice the enzyme content is only reduced 20% or so.
I ate some large spoonfulls of coconut oil last night before going to bed. I was trying to get my liver to do another gentle flush. And I think it worked I just really don't know. The reason I think it worked is because I had some horrible dreams. And I've read that toxins once they leave the liver and before they leave the body completely can cause grumpiness,anger,etc...
Better out than in. Now I just need em out of my body.
I just looked at the calender and today marks the 11th day for me. This was how long I went on the MC. And this time around doing a juice fast has been so easy thus far. Well the thing that has been easy is that I haven't been craving any foods like I did on the MC.
:D <----- I just need to get a smile in here somewhere.:p
Aleesha Sattva
07-04-2010, 12:07 PM
those dreams are fasting dreams my friend... and sometimes they come nightly and sometimes they gift you a little break. but they are odd... very very odd. ;)
and i agree... a smile is always welcome!
oh one more thing... fasting will heal and detox your organs. why not just allow your body to work on what it believes is most important? perhaps you have something else that needs it's attention more than your liver? why not just go with the flow?
fastfreedom
07-04-2010, 12:19 PM
That's a good point. I had never thought of it in that way. I have read that allergies are due to a congested liver full of gallstones. And I was just assuming that if I got all them out it would help my liver begin to function better.
I like your perspective. Don't force the body to do this or that. Cus the body is much smarter than I am and it knows what needs done more than my assumptions. ;)
Aleesha Sattva
07-04-2010, 12:22 PM
you got it! :) your liver is getting a very nice break simply by fasting.
a fellow faster recently went to a retreat for fasting. they literally forced the parasites out of her body. i was (and still am) very concerned for her. personally i prefer a much more gentle approach to health. it didn't take a day or three to get to where we are and we shouldn't try to force our body to get into perfect health that fast.
it needs time... patience... breath... and the space to heal. fasting gifts it that space.
So far, so good. Still juicing it up to stay cool.
I stocked up on strawberries, blue berries, raspberries and spinach today so that should get me through the week along with some avocados. I know the avacados aren't the best for a fast, but I have to stretch my budget. I usually get a strong craving to munch in the afternoon so the avocado smoothie should help keep me satisfied if I drink a smoothie with it for lunch.
I'm still hesitant about the tomato-based smoothie. I loathe tomatos when eating them, but they are so plentiful this time of year it was hard to resist getting some to try out. I'll let you know how it went.:p
10 minutes later...
Alright, I blended the following...
1 avocado
handful of spinach
1 large tomato
about 1 cup of water
and a sprinkle of each of the following: sea salt, parsley, basil + garlic
I can't say that I "like" it, but it reminds me of a blended veggie pizza-lol. I may have to tweak it a bit, but I can get it down.
monk, try adding a tiny bit of yours peaches, strawberries & dark cherries to your watermelon. not all of them, just one in each jar. it really makes watermelon juice nice when it has a bit of complimentary fruit with it. i find that strawberry is really nice with watermelon.
Cyndee, let me know how the Humaworm works.
Welcome Happy. I need to drink me some more water. Nice to add another to the fasting thread for some support. I found that when I come here to type or read that it sure helps me. So it's nice to see you.:)
Well, I nearly caved a couple hours ago. All that SAD food in the fridge was looking oohh soo tempting. Luckily I found me some yams downstairs and I avoided my fermented foods to get the digestion going.
It almost seems like a waste for me to come this far and then stop the detox process. I still have a fuzzy tongue and I want to keep on the fast until I clear out all my toxins. I don't have a set amount of time or a plan. I'm just sorta wingin it. But I am thankful that I made me some juice and stopped the SAD cravings before I caved in. But holy k-rap that SAD stuff was lookin soo good.:p
I hardly have any body fat, but I do notice that what I did/do have is going away. So it's nice to see that the toxins are being removed. I can definatley feel them being removed. I may go for a day of water to speed up the process. Or maybe two days if I have enough energy for it.
Aleesha - what's your fasting and detox tea? I would like a few other things to keep the palate entertained. I was mixing some agave and cayenne earlier. I feel ya on the detoxing. I've had detox earaches for the past 4-5 days. Gaaaa, I can't wait for it to pass.
Aleesha Sattva
i'm not trying to scare you or tell you not to do water. cause i'm a huge supporter of water fasting. i just want you to be prepared. so many people change it up to water and because they feel so horrid, they break their fast. their body would have benefited so much more from juice for 3 weeks instead of juice for a week - water for two days and then binge eating.
pace yourself is all i'm suggesting... ;) i want you to achieve great health!
Wow - I made it to Day 4!
I almost stepped off the ledge last night - so to speak......
Work was fine for the most part - until the last couple hours - then it hit me like a ton of bricks. The emotional stress makes me want to stuff my face when I get home......I was not in a good place. :(
So, I want to "Thank You" - Aleesha for calling me in my time of need - talking to me, reassuring me, calming me....it made all the difference in the world - I'm so happy to have your assistence on my journey :o
i'm teaching a 2 hr sports camp, a cheer class and a fitness class
(all for kids but still) today so hopefully i continue to feel great!
Aleesha - i agree on the water issue but for me theres no question that i need to drink alot of water. Between teaching all my classes and the texas heat, my body screams for it!!....lol
You are so welcome Monk. I could tell by your email that you needed to hear a voice that understood and that could offer some suggestions. You sounded so down when we spoke, I'm so glad that little 15 minute call made a difference for ya! (((hugs)))
happy... it's good to drink 2-4 litres of water while juice fasting. (2-4 quarts) and if you are in a hot climate... up that amount! so glad to hear your body knows what it needs and you respond. that's truly a gift. so many people hear their body begging for water and they ignore the call.
i'm in heavy detox mode. heavy detox. feel like total C*R*A*P but it's sunny out today so that'll make me feel better in spirit if nothing else! it'll probably be a slow day at work, so that means i can relax in the sunshine and veg.
It's been a good day for me. I woke up all congested again. But at least I know that it's the toxins coming out. I hardly noticed any allergy reactions while outside so that's a good sign.:D
I recalled in my reading about the master cleanse how it cleanses the body of mucous. So I said, hmmm. Then I did a little searching and reading and decided to drink me a warm glass of water with the juice of a lemon in it. And I would have to say it worked pretty well for a little while. My nose driped a couple of times and I didn't feel so congested. So I'm gonna save my last lemon for later tonight and do it again.
Later in the day I drank a fruit mix that I made last night and put in the freezer. That was really nice while being outside in the shining sun.
My Living On Live Food book arrived today so I'll be reading through it tonight.:D
i'm starting to feel better. not 100% yet but so much better than i did an hour ago. i even managed to get some cantaloupe/ginger/choc mint herb blend down. a litre in fact!
:)
this detox i'm going through is horrid though. one of those 'please don't make me experience this ever again' detoxes.
but... better out than in!
I have issues.. really.. with food. Once I start eating, I seem to lose some control. I always stay vegan and high raw, but I do tend to over eat. Then I don't feel so good... I don't feel like myself. I like... I love how I feel when I juice fast or eat simple raw.
So I will continue to juice fast to help me over come this issue.
I want to continue to have healing in my body.
I want to continue to have a connection with my God that is so special when I'm fasting.
I want to continue on the path that brought me joy, peace, and healing.
So I am starting my juice fast again tomorrow. I don't know how long I will go, but I want to continue the journey I was on. I do not want my desires to control me, so I will continue to walk the fasting way...
Yesterday was day 4 & it went much better than day 3 - Yay! :D
I was drinking watermelon juice in the morning - but by afternoon I think it was just too much sugar - so I made a veggie blend for lunch - my body was soooo happy. It was made with celery, cucumber, carrots, lime & apple.
For dinner I had "tomatoe juice soup" - juiced tomatoes, a stalk of celery with some sea salt & chili powder - eaten out of a bowl. I almost felt like I was "cheating" - I did have to remind myself I wasn't chewing food - so that nothing else made it's way to my mouth ;)
I just weighed in this morning & I have released 9.5# since last Thursday!! :D
Today is day 7 of 100% Raw & Day 5 of my Juice Feast~
So glad to hear everyone is doing well & feeling better!
I've finished my first qt. of water and will be having some carrot juice soon. I do have some pineapples and cantaloupe. We'll see how far I can go. My husband just let me know that we have very little money for the next week and a half. So I have to stretch what we have for almost 2 weeks :eek: So.. one day at a time.. right? :rolleyes:
It seems like the first day or two is the hardest for me. I know that if I can make it past that point, I'll be golden ;).
I'm going to go as long as there are supplies and then if I have to stop for a minute I will, and then continue as soon as I can.
thought i'd share some money saving fasting tips...
buy in cases. it's amazing how inexpensive something can be in a case. we just picked up a case of cantaloupes. they are selling here for around $2.50 a piece right now. we paid less than $1 each by the case! watermelons... if you find them cheap, buy 4 or 5. they last! these toms, we paid $9.50 for this case. considering they are my dinner everynight... they'll feed me dinner for a week! that's about $1.50 a night!
while i was taking pics... i thought i'd share some juicing pics with ya. my juicing stations... citrus and my greenstar/champion. as well as what my fridge looks like. this is the raw fridge... we have two. the other one is where the cooked food is for my son and hubby. ;) ours is bigger and healthier! :)
Welcome back GoodCat.
It's been another good day for me again. I had the juice of a lemon in some water this morning and I haven't had any other juice yet. I didn't do it on purpose, but that's just how it worked out today. I think I'm gonna make me a beet concotion in a little bit.
I've been searching the internet a little bit to find out if it's ok to drink almond milk and coconut milk while fasting. What's the consensus on drinking those milks while fasting? It would seem ok to do, but I really don't know.
I have one coconut so I don't kow how much milk it would give. I may hold off on it till I save up a few more.
But I do have two large bags of almonds. I'm gonna sprout em and make milk if it's ok to do while fasting. I've never had almond milk but the name makes it sound real good.:D Especially with a little cinnamon. LOL I've been putting cinnamon in all my fruit drinks the past few days.
I've really enjoyed reading Alissa's book. It's good. Now if I could only figure out a way to get my family to read it.:p I may buy another copy and send it to my mom. She's beginning to walk the enlightened path.:D
Aleesha Sattva
if you drink any mylks you will restart your digestion. you will still be 'feasting'... like a green smoothie/blended drink feast... but you will no longer be juice fasting. your fast will be broken. ;)
as for the liquid inside young coconuts NOT blended with the meat... that's 100% cool to drink... but if you blend it with the meat to make it mylk... it is not.
of course, there are no fasting police it's entirely up to you - what your fast entails. but your digestion will restart and you will be hungry. ;)
i've had a good day. it's super hot here finally and i'm loving every moment. finally took my scarf off!!!
sipping on cantaloupe juice and just had some tomato for supper. it's been a good day!
Does the same go for coconut oil and hemp oil. Does consuming those oils start the digestion too?:confused:
pretty much end of day 3 since i'm home relaxing...and i am still feeling awesome! i'm kind of surprised. i have done several fasts before and I ALWAYS have trouble the first three days...pretty much all I used to think about was when will it be over. Once I got over the first few days though, I would feel great.
But this time is soooo different. I have acne breakouts but other than that, no headache, no stomachaches, etc. No thinking, "when can I eat again??!! I've been doing some self-reflection and I really think a part of it is I am in a much different place in my life. I recently moved from NY to TX, changed careers from an overworked accountant to a fitness coach/tutor (studying to be a teacher) and spend ALOT more time with my family (one of the reasons for the move).
The support I have from my family and my husband (who is doing a water fast at the same time) and just LOVING my job really has made a difference. I'm sure its also the fact that I have been eating clean for some time now. But the last few months I have been slipping up by eating all sorts of baked goods at my mom's house. So I thought for sure, I would feel like crap.
But I guess mind over matter!!! Sometimes we get caught up in cleaning up what we eat and we may forget about "cleaning up" other areas of our lives that can affect our health just as much.
Happy - Nice to see that you are having an easier time fasting this time around than you did on your previous fasts. I'm having the same experience. I don't have any cravings like I did in feb. on the MC. Though I have had some detox stuff but that's been easy. It was the craving the food that killed me back when I did the MC.
Family is nice. I like being around family. I have a fam reunion next weekend.:D
Ok. I got another question. Getting tired of em yet. LOL What about taking spirulina and chlorella? All I have is powder and I mix it with water. But about 70% or more if it just sticks into the glass and I have to wipe it up with my finger and eat it.
I just drank beet with greens/kale/carrots/lime/apple. Pretty good. I've been feeling like I needed that. Ahhhhhhh.:D
Fastfreedom, you really need to read some of the other fasting threads I've started. The really long ones... it shares soooo much of the info that you've asked and that I know you are going to ask. Including the question from right now. Spirulina and chlorella are great additions to your fast! It increases your greens and significantly increases your health and detox. So yes... you can not only have them in your water but mix them with pineapple juice - that's divine... and you can chew the little tablets as well!
Allergy, I don't think you are deficient in anything... cause honestly you haven't been fasting long enough to get deficient. it's called emotional detoxing... been there done that, got the badge from camp for it. LOL
You just need to go through it. Journalling is a great thing to do (hence why i keep a blog and these threads going) - talking with a friend or lover and reminding them and yourself that you are detoxing your emotions right now and sharing is a great way to do that. If they know this, they won't take you personally which is so important!!!
We get snippy when we fast sometimes... those around us who are understanding and tolerant make it easier on us by being understanding and tolerant. I know my marriage could have ended many times (and I love my hubby dearly) had he not been aware of "ah... mama is emotionally detoxing... let's pamper her - she needs it" instead of him getting angry/upset etc. with me.
I was emotionally detoxing HUGE last week after watching a movie that triggered a lot of stuff for me. I ended up going out into the forest... touching trees and asking them to assist me in my desire to release - release it all. I was so unhappy, so numb, so miserable, so uncaring... it was awful. I wasn't myself at all. After my walk in the forest I lit a fire in our fire pit and for 6 hours - I released. I burned cedar branches... I shared with the Goddess what it was I wanted to release... and afterwards, I felt amazing.
Then the detoxing on the physical end began for two days of yuck... but honestly... I'm so thankful I went through it. I'm a better ME now. A much better me.
Cathy, (((hugs))) *reaches out - holds her hands - and assists her to stand tall*
Love and hugs to you all. You are all doing soooooo great. Think of what you could be doing with your time right now and instead, you are focusing on your inner selves, your healing, the cells of your body being replaced with healthier cells because of what you are ingesting and what you are NOT ingesting at this time. Good for YOU!!!
love and light,
Aleesha
I have noticed though that my emotions are a wreck I believe I have alot to let go. I just need some help in releasing its not that easy for me to do . Hey CathyA and Cathy... you two will have to try to figure out who I'm talking to most of the time LOL
Cathy, it tastes like dirt. Honestly it does. When you get used to the taste... it's kinda nutty. Not seaweed at all.
I like the taste but if you start with a tiny bit and work your way up (with the powder) you barely taste it. It's reallllly good for ya. I highly highly HIGHLY recommend it.
Just get spirulina to start. Chlorella tastes the same but is way more detoxing and I find it hard to sleep sometimes when I've had chlorella. It keeps me awake!
You can pick it up at your local health food store. Try to find a little plastic bag type package of it - it's cheaper than the bottles. ;) I love it's deeeeep green colour!
Hello fellow fasters! (Waves hand) :D
Today is Day 6 of my juice feast - feeling pretty good - although I have only gotten a little over 2 liters in today & about the same in water. I'm having trouble finding the time to be able to get all my juicing in....I feel like I wake up - juice, get ready for work, go to work - come home for lunch & juice, go back to work - come home juice for supper & possibly the next morning - finally at around 9pm I get to sit down.....no sitting in the morning, or for my lunch this week! I'm a little bit tired right now.....I am still teaching yoga in a couple hours - then home to juice.......how do you find the time?? :confused:
I sub a couple quick cups of herbal tea in there.
I have to remember NEVER to juice the lemon with the rind on again.....my teeth were sensitive IMMEDIATELY :eek:
I know what you will say Aleesha.......young coconuts = fast food!
Unfortunately I haven't been able to hit the asian store to get/find them.....
I haven't had to much computer time either.....hmmm, maybe not such a bad thing.....:p
Congrats to everyone on their fasts!!
Tomorrow is 4 weeks for me. I wanted to share... my taste buds have changed. My coconut water tastes so different now. It's got a 'coconut oil' flavour much richer than ever before. My tomato juice tastes so much fresher.
Even my cantaloupe tastes more alive.
I thought it was a particular cantaloupe... a particular coconut etc... but I've realized today that it's every cantaloupe, it's every coconut... all the tomatoes...
How cool is this? I am experiencing taste in a whole new way. I feel like I've never really tasted anything before...
blissing,
Okay.. So Friday (my son's b-day) and Saturday (the last day of our garage sale) are over. Its been long and tiring and I'm needing to rest, and my body is telling me... I'm sorry.. kale... great with tomato (and i know you love your tomato!) - it's also very nice with cantaloupe!
my eyes... it's allergies which is interesting because i haven't really had any allergic reactions for a few years AND normally it's way more than just sore/tired eyes. it's puffy, scratchy eyes at the very least. but i realized today when i went out that it got worse... so i know it's allergies.
so this too shall pass (like the diamond ring through the dog) {as my mom used to say}
allergygirl, how about switching it up to some green juices AND you M/C? after all, there are no rules except the ones you put on yourself.
nadia, day 8... congrats!!!
cathya, i haven't tried romaine with cantaloupe but as i mentioned above... i do put kale in mine. i imagine it would be similar.
cathy, i hear ya. i find it way harder to 'sorta-fast' than to actually fast. some times though getting into the zone to actually complete those first three days can be tough... hence why i'm so thrilled to be fasting right now and no stopping anytime soon... i don't have to do those three days for awhile!!!
i had the most lovely day. finally home from a fundraiser. we won the door prize and the 50/50 draw. came home with waaaaay more money than we went there with! ;) ohhh yaaa. nice evening indeed!
i forgot my juices in the cooler at the door at home. but... it was okay. everyone was eating around me and it didn't even phase me a little bit. i just crunched on my ice chips and chatted it up with everyone. ;) ohhhh yaaaaa.
i'm so in the zone - so in the zone. i feel like i'm going to be able to fast forever. soooo empowered, so healthy, so at peace. i am blissing OUT!
Aleesha, can you suggest a green juice that's not "too green" if that makes sense? I don't like the bitterness of it on its own, and tend to juice my greens with fruit to hide that bitter taste. But that's definitely an idea - I want to do this so badly, and I want to go for longer than just 3 days, because I know my body is packed to my eyeballs with toxins, but at the same time...ugh. My head just feels like it's going to split apart.
sure!
pineapple with spirulina mixed in.
apple/parsley/ginger - remember herbs are excellent greens!
that's two to get you started although i hear green lemonaide is supposed to be amazing.
Green lemonade:
1/2 to 1 head romaine lettuce
1 lemon
2 apples
Small chunk of ginger (optional)
You could also add kale, or celery stalks to it if you want.
I'm nearly out of produce. I still have a small watermelon. And I have 3 quarts of frozen juice left.
Today I laid out about 3000lbs of sod. I juiced some beet with greens/yam/apple/pear/carrots in the morning. Then I had two frozen quarts of a watermelon/strawberry/cherry/raspberry throughout the afternoon while laying the sod. I had lots of energy to go go go all afternoon.
I keep hoping that the true hunger sensation and a pink tongue will arrive soon cus I am emotionally wanting to stuff my face.:p
I may do a couple days of water to speed up the process. I looked at my tongue a little bit ago and it appeared it had some green fuzzy color to it. No pink yet.
Good Morning...
I'm drinking my first qt. of water for the day. I'll juice some other things in a little while. I don't have anywhere to go and really only have some cleaning around the house. I love days like this.
I too am going to try to add more greens to my juices this time around. I have a lot of romaine and some kale. That green lemon aid sounds wonderful. But I think I'm keeping it very simple for these first few days. Actually.. nothing.. even sounds good to me. My body is needing a little rest for everything I'm thinking.
Congrats on day 4 Cathy A
I just did a little weeding using the weedeater. I didn't have any allergy reactions.:D That's not something I could of done in the past without having a sneezing fit and then suffering through the rest of the day. But I feel fine.
I was craving some cantaloupe juice with cinnamon so I gave in to my emotions instead of trying to spend a day doing just water. I made cantaloupe/cherry/cinnamon and a little organic sugar. I should of used my raw agave cus it tastes better than the sugar.
Then I took the juice and added it to a couple cups of ice in the blender and blended it all together. Such a good juice. I also like how I'm getting in more water by adding in the ice to my juice like that.:p
I've pretty much given up on trying to get in any greens. I do get in a few here and there when I make a beet juice combination. But I just don't crave em. I figure that I'll get in plenty of greens after I finish my fast.:)
Aleesha Sattva
07-11-2010, 02:28 PM
i don't do many greens when i fast either... so i hear ya.
i tried to fix that lemonade... it's just not my thing. :( oh well... live and learn. my hubby thinks it was the kale as well but this red kale is really young and not harsh tasting at all. but perhaps it was??? not sure.
fastfreedom, why do you add sugar to your juice? if you really need it sweeter, why not soak some dates and add the water to your juice instead?
very cool on the allergies... you and i are both experiencing a different kind of allergy season!
i'm definitely going to try adding some cinnamon to my cantaloupe juice tomorrow. that sounds yummy!
i just finished a cantaloupe juice with choc. mint herb... mmmm delicious!!! it was icy cold too... which makes me very very happy!
fastfreedom
Ohhh my gosh. I can't believe I didn't think of the soaked dates for extra sweetness. I'm definately gonna pick some up when I go back to town for more produce. Thank you thank you thank you for reminding me this.:D I definately want to cut that sugar out. I've only done it a few times cus I wanted the sweetness but I really don't need it. And I'm sure it's not all that great either. It is organic and it is "less refined", but never the less.... It's the stuff I use for my kombucha.
I still gotta find me some of that choc. mint. My friend in WA was telling me of all these flavors of mint he found and is growing. I had no idea there were so many different flavors.:eek:
Aleesha - do you just cut off a few leaves from your kale and juice it? I've been wondering if that would be ok for me to do, but I couldn't find info on it on the internet. But I may not be all that great at searching. And I'm quite a novice gardener.:p
Aleesha Sattva
07-11-2010, 05:55 PM
i literally pinch off the outer leaves from my kale and then put it through the juicer. ;)
i need to check out more flavours of mint as well... although i've very addicted to this one. i'm sipping on some more cantaloupe/mint right now LOL
remember you can use banana syrup as well. i'll try to find the thread explaining the process:
couldn't find the thread but here's the info from it: (this is not my info... another member of this forum shared this with us all)
I stumbled upon the method of making banana syrup several years ago when my freezer was off and everything in it melted.
I'd had some bananas frozen in there, sitting on some baking paper and they defrosted, leaving a pool of sugary syrup on the bottom of the freezer.
The banana syrup method is really easy and does not require a dehydrator. The syrup is thinner than commercial syrups, but can be 'dehydrated' the freezer (or even the dehydrator, I've actually made raw lollipops with it).
If you leave the bananas in the freezer out of a container (i.e. on baking paper), the extreme cold will take some of the water out of them (you can see that they dry a little) and will help to make the syrup more concentrated when you defrost them.
The first method below is the one I've mentioned, the second method is similar in concept to the date method, but the bananas need to be dehydrated.
Banana Syrup #1 (freezer method)
Take several bananas, peel, chop and freeze them overnight (or longer and exposed in the freezer to dry them out).
Take the bananas out of the freezer and place into a large sieve. Sit the sieve onto a jug or bowl to catch the syrup. As the banana defrosts, the liquid seeps out through the sieve and into the jug as syrup. Leave the banana overnight to ensure maximum syrup extraction. Once the liquid has stopped dripping from the sieve, store the jug in the fridge.
Note: the yield from this method is lower than the method below, but does not require a dehydrator and gives a clear syrup with no pieces.
Banana Syrup #2 (1st dehydrator method)
Peel and chop bananas and pace in the dehydrator for 12 hours.
Take dried bananas out of the dehydrator. At this point, the bananas can be stored in an airtight container and kept until required.
To make syrup from them, place the dried bananas in a bowl and cover with enough water to cover two thirds of the dried bananas. Leave to soak overnight, occasionally agitating the bowl gently to move the dry pieces into the liquid. Pour resulting syrup through a sieve and store in the fridge.
Hi Everyone!
I've been super busy & haven't been able to post during my fast as much as I would've liked to....
You are all doing such a wonderful job!!!
Today I will be completing my 10 day juice fast!!! :D
I'm so proud of myself - when I started I didn't know what to expect & how long I would go for. That's where Aleesha came in :)
I just want to say "Thank You" so much for offering your fast coaching service - without talking to you on the phone - listening to your sage wisdom - I'm not sure I would've made it this far! ;)
In fact I know from past experiences I would've given up when the going got hard & emotional = Day 3......:rolleyes:
It was nice to know I had support basically 24/7 - I appreciated that very much!
Tomorrow I will be starting to break my fast......very gently....
With this fast I learned that fasting doesn't need to be a struggle....I was amazed at how "easy" this was for me this time. I know the variety of juices & Aleesha's support had a lot to do with that.
I know I will bring fasting into my life more frequently in the future.
Keep up the great fasting everyone!!! (((Hugs)))
Well.. I'm doing good today. I feel focused and determined;) I am drinking my first qt. of water and then will continue on to some juices.
I have to go shopping today and I'm hoping for some good sales. I don't have as much money available to me this week, but I'll see what I can get.
I do have some pineapples and cantaloupes still at home.. so thats probably what I'll have today. Actually I want to make that green lemonade again (sorry you didn't like it Aleesha :p).
I have alot to do around the house, so I'm going to keep myself busy, but still give myself some time to read and pray.
I really enjoyed my bath last night!! I'll try to do that again tonight.
I'm running out of produce so I'm gonna need to go to the store or break my fast. And I really don't drive to town unless I absolutely have to. LOL I kinda want to keep my fast going through the weekend though because of a family reunion. I would rather be drinking healthy juice then trying to figure out what to eat raw while taking flak from everyone around me for not eating their food. I can just simply say, "I'm fasting".:p
Just call me Ms. Grumpy... or you can call me Super Grumpy if you prefer.
I am so grumpy today. The day began with just not enough time at home and then I walked into work and it looked like a friggin' cyclone hit it! It was such a mess... such a mess. You can tell it was warm in the shop cause it was so dusty... and there were crystals, pendants... everything everywhere! Took me 90 minutes to clean it up so it was 'customer ready'.
The rest of my work day was fine.
And then I came home. Sheesh... everything seemed to go wrong. I'm just fed up. I just got out of the tub, hoping to miss dinner time and nope... I just get dressed, sit down on the couch and in comes all this food!
Aaaaagggghhhhhhhh CALGON TAKE ME AWAY!
I know... that this too shall pass.
It's days like this that it's hard to see the future of this fast. I know I'll do it (in my mind) cause I've resolved myself that I simply will not quit this fast unless there is a health issue that needs me to stop it. And since I believe all health issues can be healed by a fast... well I can't imagine any reason to end this fast.
But...
And yes, there is a but. On days like today... I don't wanna fast. I don't want to continue. I just want to break my fast. I'm not hungry. I don't want to eat. I just don't want to fast.
And... it's in these moments I know intellectually that it's even more important for me to continue.
Hi all! *waves wildly* :)
I've decided to finally start a green smoothie fast/feast tomorrow and my hubby will be joining me. :D
I feel ready. My body is screaming for this - it is such a mess! My hormones are all over the place, my insulin is sky-high, my body is super inflammed, I'm in a perpetual state of anxiety, and I have a ton of weird symptoms that no one can explain. I desperately need to find balance and calm.
So a green smoothie feast it is! DH and I have read all of Victoria's books and we have a vitamix (which I LOVE!), so I think we're all set.
I'm hoping to go for at least a week, but I plan on just listening to my body... I hope it guides me well. Also, during my feast, I think I'm going put a hold on all my supplements :confused:
That's the plan: drink juice + water, possibly do a little light yoga, rest, and trust the process will be healing (geez, I know that last one will be difficult)
Nice to meet you all,
Elizabeth
I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts, dee da leee deee.:D
Just got back from town. Drinking the water of two coconuts.
I was looking for fasting tea in the health food store but didn't see any. I did see some valerian root tea and I heard it's really amazing for sleep/dreams. So I bought some of that. I don't know if it's ok though or not for drinking while fasting. I assume it is but I really don't know. I'm gonna google it and see what I come up with.:p Opinions?
I woke up and only had a little bit of water, then I drove to town. While I was there I was noticing a small bit of shortness of breath. So I can tell my body is still needing to detox. I think I'm gonna hold off on any water only days until after I get back from my family vacation. I wanna have lots of energy and be upbeat through the whole trip. Just remember... if/when you have a tough day... that is NOT your body telling you to stop... we need to push through those times to find the sun behind the clouds!
Thanks for the words of wisdom, Aleesha! :)
EMERGENCY!!!
Everyone please do a special plunger dance for me. I can't find my plunger for my juicer. I'm starting to get grumpy cus I need me some nourishment. Maybe the universe is wanting me to dine on some water.:p
I'm starting to want to blame family members because I had it earlier today when I moved my juicer to a different spot and now it's gone.
I'm off to check the yard to see if the dog stole it.:p
Good Morning all..
Another wonderful day :) I'm doing "It's a wonderful day dance"!
I'm drinking my first qt. of water and then I think I have some watermelon juice. We'll see.
They found my husband's truck that was stolen. Unforetunately, they broke his drive staft and did some other stuff to it. Its undrivable :(. But we are at peace with it. We know that our God knows all and understands things we don't!!
So I had a friend and her family come unexpectedly yesterday for dinner. So we didn't get to do our yard work. So that is what we are going to work on today. I love getting outside and making things look pretty ;)
in Light,
Cathy :D
I'm so glad that they found the truck Cathy, but I'm sorry it's so messed up. :(
Gardening sounds great! I have 2 black thumbs, but I've been doing some reading about growing herbs and microgreens indoors, and I'm thinking I might try to find some seeds and give it a try. I'm dying to have some of that chocolate mint Aleesha keeps talking about.
I bet you do well with your indoor "gardening"!!
I struggled a bit last night with thoughts of breaking my fast. Made it through ok though. It's like if you can just hang on until the a.m., you can go on. Made green grape, watermellon, cantalope. Turned out pretty good.
I will not break my fast today!!
Cat- you've got the right attitude about the truck. You can't undo what has been done.
Happy fasting and dancing.;)
Wow there is a lot of dancing going on in here! Can I do a "I slept in and feel good dance!" with you all?
CathyA, So true... if you can get through to the morning the next day is always easier than the one you are doing. That's how I fast... I just wait till morning, even if it means I go to bed at 8pm one night to get morning to come faster LOL
Cathy, Nice to hear they've recovered your truck. Hopefully insurance will bring you a new version (((hugs)))
Allergy, you have an abundance of energy! What are you doing with it all?
The sun has returned... which is lovely. Hopefully I'll get something done today. Not sure what... no real goals at this point... but just... something. ;)
I had a dream last night and I was eating. All of a sudden I remembered I was fasting and I was soooooooo upset. I've had a few dreams like this when I was fasting in the past but I've never gotten this upset in the dream before. What this tells me is... my resolve, my focus is so much deeper this time. *ahhhhh bliss*
Hi everyone!
So far, so good today! ::thumbs up::
I decided to have green juice (rather than green smoothies) to give my digestive system a little bit of a break.
I feel tired today, but otherwise I'm pretty good :)
happy fasting!
I'm fasting today. I try to do it once a week (water only).
Today will be hard because I have to do errands downtown. I usually try to avoid that on fasting days, but couldn't be helped. Well, hopefully it will go OK.
Allergy, you have an abundance of energy! What are you doing with it all?
Been going to the gym every day - am up to riding a mile on the bike and walking a mile on the track, plus I walk to the gym (up a big hill) and back as well.
Also, I've been puttering around in my kitchen, and went to the farmers' market again today, and also trying new recipes and things (watermelon juice is amazing!) and then of course still going to class every day, doing homework, studying, etc.
And of course doing the occasional plunger dance or happy that it's Wednesday dance. :P
But yes, I am astonished at my energy - 6 weeks ago before I went raw, my food allergies had gotten me so run down that I was constantly exhausted, constantly being exposed to my allergens, and by 7:30 every night I was usually either in bed or on my way to bed, couldn't sleep well, and just couldn't focus or seem to do much of anything, because I was just too bloody tired. So this is amazing to me. :D
I've actually been sitting here today thinking up things that I want to do when I get in shape and lose more weight - learn to kayak, be able to hike up neat trails/hills, bike the trails we have around here, RUN, etc. :D I've NEVER in my life been athletic, and all of a sudden I'm dying to try all of these VERY athletic things. I am so pleased. :D
Glad you are filled with energy Allergy. Get out there and try it all girl!!!
Oh how I love watermelon juice!! And yes.. its bed time.
I won't be fasting tomorrow, but it will only be a short rest. My husband is taking a vacation at the end of this month and he told me he wants to fast during it :D. So I said I would love to fast with him!!
So I'll be back soon ;)
Good night,
Oh I looooooove fasting with my hubby... good for you both!!! We'll see you soon then Cathy. (((hugs)))
I just got home from a wonderfully long fast-paced walk. Ah I feel good. I'm hoping to shed a few more pounds on this fast and my weight seems to have come to a bit of a standstill. I know this is normal while fasting... hence why I seldom release a lot of weight on my fasts... but I really would love to get rid of a few extra pounds on this one... so hopefully it'll start moving again soon.
I am very pleased with how I look these days. Nice to see the old-Aleesha re-emerging from her slumber!
Emotionally... I'm totally back as well which is lovely. If you remember... that was the point of this fast... for me to find my Self again.
I have started spending more time meditating again which is pleases me greatly. I do love who I am when I take the time each day to meditate. (((bliss)))
Enjoy the evening everyone...
love and light to all...
Aleesha, for the last few days as I followed along here, I kept thinking "you've got grit", as you discussed your stick-to-it-iveness and resolve. Now, I hear you're going prospecting. No denying it now, you do got grit! A true pioneer at heart?
Good morning! :cool:
Thanks everyone for your support!
Day 2 of green juice today! This morning, I was staring at my glass pitcher full of green juice, and I noticed how vibrant the colour is and how wonderfully nourishing the juice looks. It made me feel really good about my choice to fast. :)
I am a little hungry though... especially as DH was eating breakfast in front of me (he decided not to fast, after all). I expect it to pass soon (HOPEFULLY! lol)
Have a great day, everyone!!
Sipping on apple juice.
laLune--it is tough to get through the first few days, especially when someone is eating in front of you. Meal time is for family in our house so it is something that I have gotten used to. It becomes normal after a couple of days and the cravings and feelings of hunger subside pretty quickly. I just enjoy my juice while my hubby eats his "whatever it is" on the plate.
Aleesha--happy that you have found yourself. I hate it when I loose that part of me. Fasting is a great way to get back to you.
Happy fasting.
Sure has been lots of dancing going on lately.:p
I bought a fasting book, "Bragg", a couple days ago and read it yesterday on my drive to my family reunion. It sure was nice support for myself. My family only tells me their fears instead of anything of substance. So it was a nice read to fill me with more support and belief in myself and my choices. It was also nice to be able to read it while smelling the road trip snacks. I was thinking, "ohhhh that smells good", then I would begin reading and I would feel much better about my choices and would think, "ahhhhh, I'm doing such a healthy thing for my body".
I showed a picture to my grandpa of Paul Bragg with Roy White, with my thumb over his age, and asked him, "what age do you think this guy on the right is?", and he says, "ohhhh, 50," then I removed my thumb from his age and revealed his true age.:p My grandpa said he didn't believe it. LOL
And those people didn't even follow a raw lifestyle. Although they ate healthy. But just imagine what were gonna see of the people who have been eating healthy raw and organic for their life with periodic fasting.:eek: It's gonna be kewl.
Last night I drank the juice of 6 apples and a bunch of grapes. That definately loosened up any built up matter in the colon.:p
I'm gonna try and flood my body with juice this weekend. I don't think I'm ever gonna reach a point of true hunger while juice fasting so I'm trying to figure out when I should break my fast. I think after this weekend I'm gonna go on a water fast for a few days. But we'll see. I've noticed that I can see my cheek bones. My grandpa also commented on that. So it has me searching for signs to look for that means I should end my fast and begin eating. But I can't find much info.
Have a great day everyone.
fast, it's up to YOU when you end your fast. you won't find that in a book or on the internet. it's your choice. after all... you could fast for a year if you wanted to. ;)
street, i have so much stick-to-it-evness it's crazy! i'm so completely focused on doing this... unlike any other fast i've done. i'm more committed to this fast. not sure why... but i am. i looooooove it!
woke up, went right outside to assist with our car being taken away for scrap... while i was out there i realized i needed a juice so came in, grabbed a cantaloupe/mint i had from yesterday and outside i went with my juice. mmmmm i love fasting!
:D:D
off to teach a tarot class today, do some gardening and hopefully a walk around the lagoon at the lake tonight. ;)
