Up is down, wrong is right. What is going on with this world?

------------------------------------------------

(NaturalNews) In its never-ending attempt to fabricate "mental disorders" out of every human activity, the psychiatric industry is now pushing the most ridiculous disease they've invented yet: Healthy eating disorder.

This is no joke: If you focus on eating healthy foods, you're "mentally diseased" and probably need some sort of chemical treatment involving powerful psychotropic drugs. The Guardian newspaper reports, "Fixation with healthy eating can be sign of serious psychological disorder" and goes on to claim this "disease" is called orthorexia nervosa -- which is basically just Latin for "nervous about correct eating."

But they can't just called it "nervous healthy eating disorder" because that doesn't sound like they know what they're talking about. So they translate it into Latin where it sounds smart (even though it isn't). That's where most disease names come from: Doctors just describe the symptoms they see with a name like osteoporosis (which means "bones with holes in them").

Getting back to this fabricated "orthorexia" disease, the Guardian goes on to report, "Orthorexics commonly have rigid rules around eating. Refusing to touch sugar, salt, caffeine, alcohol, wheat, gluten, yeast, soya, corn and dairy foods is just the start of their diet restrictions. Any foods that have come into contact with pesticides, herbicides or contain artificial additives are also out."

Wait a second. So attempting to avoid chemicals, dairy, soy and sugar now makes you a mental health patient? Yep. According to these experts. If you actually take special care to avoid pesticides, herbicides and genetically modified ingredients like soy and sugar, there's something wrong with you.

But did you notice that eating junk food is assumed to be "normal?" If you eat processed junk foods laced with synthetic chemicals, that's okay with them. The mental patients are the ones who choose organic, natural foods, apparently.

Oh wow, they really claim this? Sounds like a joke!

But the sad thing is, that when going raw, especially my parents indicated that they take my efforts to go raw for just a flash-up of my former anorexia :(

Well, then, take me to the looney bin :p:p:p - I'll go willingly, especially if "normal" means driving through a fast-food window!

They're the ones who should go to the loony bins for "thinking" >>>> that eating healthy is a loony thing to do....

There is nothing wrong at all with wanting to eat healthy. We have every right to choose to eat healthy and be healthy!!

There is def something wrong with that picture no matter how normal they try to make the weirdness of what they're doing to appear normal!

That isn't normal at all to to think that someone wanting to eat healthy is unhealthy!

Raw food is more of a modern way of eating healthy these days now that we know the scientific facts behind cooked food.

They just need to get their head on straight before they start going around labeling what's healthy to "unhealthy".

Just remember we have the right to good health and choose to eat healthy no matter what!!

i don't think this refers to every day rawbies like us...i think this is referring to people who seriously have a problem and are obsessive compulsive about it.

i dunno, people love to label things :p

Ha, ha, this is funny, if you look at it from one angle. I've actually had people tell me I'm crazy too...just the other day a neighbor came over to MY house, looked at my gorgeous salad and told me I was coo-coo for being so healthy…he even did that thing where he circled his finger at his temple. And HE has a beer gut! whatever...I think some people just get a little nervous when change happens.

On the other hand, after reading JennaBear's post, I can also see how somebody could take it to the extreme...it's like the book The Boy Who Couldn't Stop Washing His Hands. Extreme is extreme, no matter what it is. Upon reflection, it's nice to check in with myself and know that I'm not feeling anxiety on what I'm eating. I am so enjoying this adventure! But I also think that I find it most enjoyable because I have a raw food community here...thanks guys for making this trip a lot more fun!

Well this would be perfect for the pharmaceutical companies and doctors! More money. Since people eating this way generally can avoid doctors more so than the average person, this gives the doctors a way in for healthy people. Doesn't surprise me.

wow..another way to encourage all the things that make us sick. Enjoy the fast food, etc then you may need meds and go to a person to teach you how to eat properly. Glad these helpers are here. there's nothing wrong with being addicted to BK or MD or all these other places?
People do tell me I'm wrong for raising DD as a veggie, almost to no eggs or dairy. 'She needs meat! too skinny! She needs to be like other kids" Ok..you're is healthier bc they are 20lbs overweight and mine might be 5lbs underweight?
I'm sure some are obcessive about it. I have a friend who's daughter is gluten intolerant. She was very sick. Now, she's come so far. Her Mom makes ALL of her food. She's not allowed to eat anything anyone makes even if she reads the labels. I made a raw pie for the holidays, told exact ingredients and she couldn't eat it bc I made it. I'm concerned what would the child do if something happened to the Mom...the dd is 14.

oh my.

well, my daughter said it - first a condition is created, next a drug to fix the condition needs to be created.

and what would this drug do - drive us all to drop the kale and eat burger king?

i think pharma might be finally out of their league with this community. :)

The Times magazine did an article last Sunday on Food Fads and this was listed as one but they did indicate that they were giving the title to people who used it as an excuse to avoid eating.

It seems like this popped up totally overnight! Although I do think that orthorexia CAN be a serious problem when thinking about food and "perfect eating" COMPLETELY takes over your life and mind, most of us probably don't need to give this term a second thought. I do see a lot of people in the health food world, however, who seem to have a major problem with this. Food becomes their obsession, their entire life, health becomes the END rather than the MEANS to a fulfilled and happy, full, bountiful life. They generally seem like unhappy people to me actually.

So I think it is a legitimate problem for many people, who may benefit from some sort of treatment (not necessarily medication), but that this term is probably also used defensively and inappropriately for people who just want to alienate and write off people who like to eat healthily.
