Hello! I just recently learned about the idea of eating a raw food diet and I'm so glad I discovered your group. A few years ago I developed gestational diabetes while pregnant with my son. After he was born, I expected my blood sugar levels to go back to normal but when they kept hovering in the "pre-diabetic" range, I realized I needed to do whatever was necessary to become healthy. For quite some time I followed the standard eating guidelines prescribed by my doctor, and even though I measured everything precisely and ate the right amounts of carbs, fats and proteins, it didn't lower my glucose levels. So I started doing my own research, and after reading lots of books that pointed me in the vegetarian direction, I watched the Raw for 30 Days movie about some diabetics who cured their diabetes by eating raw food. Then I did more learning about the raw food diet and heard more stories about diabetics who helped themselves by eating raw food. I started thinking I should try this out to see if I can heal myself.

So here I am, ready to do whatever I need to do to become healthy and live a long time without developing diabetes. I don't think I've officially started this raw food diet yet because all I've been doing is eating more fresh salads with my meals and more fresh fruit. I'm not really sure what to do first...buy a juicer to make green drinks, buy a dehydrator to make flax seed crackers, just start eating more salads, or something else? I feel a little bit overwhelmed with all of the different appliances it looks like I need to get and I would love some advice about how to proceed when just starting this diet. I also have a husband and 2 little boys to feed and, although they do eat raw carrots and fruits, I'm not sure how they'll like eating lots of raw food (maybe they'll love it...I'm just not sure). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sure I will learn a lot in this group. Thanks so much...

hey ! welcome so glad your thinking of eating raw! raw is the best
your going to feel so much better in all aspects of your life,
ive learned in the beginning from reading books and videos while i was doing the transition to 100% raw , not to let yourself get hungry , bc you will go after all those temptations , all those sad foods, water helps in the beginning
but after a while from all the fruits and greens , im somehow never really thirsty , thats my advice , plenty of water and snack on fruits through out the day ,

A blender is your main weapon (aside from a good sharp knife). I now own a Vitamix (love it!) but you don't need that first starting out. I used the Magic Bullet in the begining and it worked just fine (easy too).

Other then that, all the other appliances you don't really "need" but they do offer you greater variety.

Tito said it right... just eat when you are hungry. You'll be fine. :) Welcome to raw!

Hi Kdangol and welcome. You're doing great by eating more salads and fruits, but my advise is to get a blender so you can enjoy green smoothies. You can enjoy the health benefits with a very simple approach. I don't have a dehydrator either and probably won't invest in one. Check out You Tube for the many demonstrations on how to make green smoothies and I have one posted here for you. Best wishes for you and your family!

Thank you all for your encouragement and advice. I don't have a vitamix yet, but I do have a magic bullet, so I think I'll try to make some green smoothies with it. Thanks again!
