I was diagnosed with 12 severe food allergies about 4.5 years ago. It has been a struggle to avoid my allergens, as it seems that some of them are absolutely everywhere. I am so sensitive to the corn and soy that even tiny amounts in the foods I eat can lay me out and make me feel rotten for days. So I put my mind to work trying to figure out a way to keep eating, because somehow giving up eating permanently didn't exactly seem like the way to go! :P I've done a lot of research in the last 6 months or so, read a lot of books, browsed recipes and forums, and just tried to educate myself on what would be the best route for my body and my health. It seemed that at the very least that I needed a vegan diet, and that raw would even be better. So I continued to plan and research and waited until I was done with school for the summer (I'm a graduate student/instructor) and then I dove in headfirst. I did a 48 hour detox/fast first and then transitioned right in to raw. I'm not 100% raw, as I still feel this probably unnecessary obligation to eat a bit of protein (hummus) each day, but other than that, everything else I've eaten for the last 6 days has been raw. I really am not struggling with hunger at all, and I started off with green smoothies and am loving them - right now it's pear/banana/blueberry/kale. Other than the weird brown color it's great. :D

Anyway, that was just a little (a lot?) about me. Thank you for maintaining these forums, they look like a great place for support and resources. :)

Hi and welcome!

I've been all raw for 10 months now. Within the first 30 days, I was able to reintroduce foods to which I had been allergic for years, e.g., coconut, cinnamon, onions

Being able to eat coconut again is the best thing ever!

So glad you have joined us - all the best!

How did you know when the time was right to start trying foods you were allergic to? I'd be less afraid to try things like wheat and olives/olive oil than I would some of my life threatening foods - mushrooms, nuts, soy, corn.

Hi AG,

I just decided to brave it and reintroduce one thing at a time. In the past, cinnamon would have sent me to the dermatologist with hives, so I started with a teensy bit in a recipe. Same with coconut. Then onions, which are not my fav, but so many recipes call for them.

My "life threatening" foods were neither raw nor vegan (crab, for example), so I have not experimented with those and do not plan to. I am not allergic to soy, but that would be a non-raw example.

Try searching the threads about the nut thing, and stay in touch!

Welcome Allergygirl, nice to have you onboard.
I never had allergies, but think for sure I had food sensitivities, since I went all raw 121 days ago, my life, stomach and health has been so much happier...:)
