I think it's time to start another fasting thread. The other one is getting a little long (as usual) and I find that when a new thread begins... so many more people join in and I love fasting with others!

So... let's do this.

Here's are the 'rules' of this thread:

Please do not discuss specific food. Feel free to share "My hubby was eating and it was hard for me." Please don't share "My hubby was eating X, Y and Z..."

The reason we do this is so no one ends up getting a craving from a fasting thread. As a faster we can choose to click on a thread which discusses food but we need the safety within this thread to know food is not discussed. Juices are shared, green smoothie recipes are shared... but not 'chewable' food.

Here's my commitment:

I'm here to fast. I'm not here to eat. I will fast until I choose to stop but I will NOT stop my fast on a bad day, at night or today. I can choose to break my fast tomorrow but not today.

I'm here to gain health.
I'm here to gift my body the time and energy to bring my body to a state of health.
I'm here to release - whatever needs to be released. Physical, emotional, conscious or unconscious things... I'm here to release them all.
I'm here to bring a greater depth to my spirituality.
I'm here to support myself and others.

And most of all... let's remember that we are all in charge of our own fasts. No one has the 'key' or the one and only answer to anything. Don't just allow yourself to be spoon fed information. Remember that research is your friend... and google is your friend as well.

Now... let's fast! Who wants to join me?

Okay... I've got my 2 litres in my belly (or rather... some is in and some is already out LOL). I've had my grapefruit juice which my hubby makes for us fresh every morning...

And now I'm ready to go for a walk.

I'm still in.. This is day 13 of a juice fast for me.. I'm hoping to continue until the 21st, but we'll see what my body says ;)

I'm am wanting a deeper relationship with my Lord
Healing in my body from some health issues...like adrenals,liver,thyroid
To learn to control what I put into my body and not be controled
To be an example to my children of good health and self-control

I have learned so far that I love fasting. I have grown so much already in such a short amount of time. I want to continue doing fasts even when I'm done with this one. This has been, and still is, such a freeing experience.
I'm so thankful for this forum and for the encouragement it gives!!

Cathy

Oh.. Aleesha.. I have to start drinking water after I pee too. I'm realizing that if I don't make myself, I won't drink enough. I just don't feel thirsty.:rolleyes:

FYI... do not juice cantaloupe right after grapefruit :p My daughter made me some cantaloupe juice after she finished juicing some other stuff. WOW... it made the cantaloupe so bitter :( Oh well... live and learn.

Oh she didn't clean the juicer between?

I just got home from a huge walk. Feels good. I totally forgot an important appointment though and I feel horrid about it. :(

I make myself drink that way cause otherwise I totally forget to drink as well. ;) It's a good reminder.

i am happy for this new fasting thread.

I will be here right up until my trip next week, where i think i might need more than juice to sustain me (I am hitchhiking across the country :D).

I am fasting to heal my body from a previous life of bad food choices and lifestyle choices.
I am fasting to heal my body and mind from emotional distress and anxiety issues.
I am fasting to gain more control over what I eat, and how I eat.
I am fasting to spend more time breathing and finding my spiritual self.

Today: VERY quiet day. My energy has been zapped.

Today's drinks:
-water
-grapefruit juice
-kale/lettuce/swiss chard/lemon/apple/spirilina juice

This new moon has made me feel very introspective, very introverted and not craving.

I am finding that I have to force myself to drink water even.

tomorrow I might just do water and breathing.

I hope we get some more fasters up in here!!!

I've drank a really good amount of water today. I'm very pleased with myself. Somewhere around the 5 litre mark.

We are watching a movie (LOTR) tonight and relaxing. We are taking a short break while we do some 'good parent' stuff... and go pee etc. Then back to the movie.

I love that everyone has chosen to share their reasons to fast. I love reading them and seeing myself in you all!

Today I embrace all that I am. I cherish myself. I honour myself. I take a moment to breathe in who I am and feel honoured to be walking this path. *deep cleansing breath in* ***pause*** *slow breath released* namaste'

Thats funny... we're watching the same thing. Tonight is the last night of our trilogy.

nadien.. I hope you have more energy tomorrow.

I've been doing good. I've continued to stay a little on the tired side this whole fast, but I don't feel sick at all anymore. Thats a blessing.

I'm having some grapefruit juice right now and loving it;)

Oh you have created a huge craving for me Cathy. Naughty naughty mama *giggling* Now my poor hubby has been forced to go into the kitchen and make some grapefruit juice LOL

And then... back to the movie! We just changed the discs... beginning the second disc of the first movie! ;)

Enjoy your movie night as well!

oh I forgot...

my fasting eyes are already back! i'm soooo thrilled. i wonder if it's all the fasting i do, the intention i set in my body (through affirmations) or all the water i consumed today (or combination thereof)... but they are baaaacccckkkk!

and i loooooooooooooove my fasting eyes!

nadien alexandra
06-13-2010, 09:12 PM
have you explained what you mean by "fasting eyes" before Aleesha? (I have a weak memory) But I'd like to know what you mean by it!
I'm pretty sure i get it though. This untempted zone of fasting.

Cathy, it's so nice to hear that you've made it to a place where you feel GOOD, and not sick. You're body must be so happy with you these days. how does your tongue look?

I am tempted to watch LOTR now, but I think I will have to save that for a more ambitious day.

I am not sure if it is detox or a reaction to something i ingested, but I am so sick right now! weak, headache, grumbling from my large intestine, multiple bms, dehydration, dizziness and I almost feel incoherent. My thoughts are all very incomplete and fuzzy.

Just had a lavender and sea salt bath. Now I will sleep.

GoodCat
06-13-2010, 09:32 PM
You are sooooo fun to fast with Aleesha. I hope you enjoyed that grapefruit juice ;).

I too would like to know what "fasting eyes" are.

nadien... I'm still having a bm every day. I figure its what my body is doing..so I go with it :rolleyes:
My tongue goes back and forth. I have days where its fine and then a day where it is a little on the white side. I know my body is going through waves. I do feel good, but I do have tummy issues and too. Grumbling and gas but not to bad anymore. I'm realizing that I will have many more fasts in my future :D

I hope you feel better soon.

Back to LOTR...
Cathy :D

nadien,

watch those symptoms please. it may be detox... sounds like some organ detox to me but you also want to be careful. i'm glad you are off to sleep... (((sleep well)))

do you see how cravings can work? i get the craving for grapefruit juice from you post cathy and now nadien have a craving for LOTRs... that's why we don't discuss food here. just think of what THAT could start!

fasting eyes. ahhhh i love my fasting eyes. my eyes get soooo white and soooooo blue. the whites are pure and the blue in my eyes is so bright - it's like they clear. i love looking in the mirror and seeing piercing blue eyes shining back at me. ;)

that is what i mean by fasting eyes. i get them every fast... and usually within the first week or two... sometimes it comes soon and other times later. depends i guess on whatever causes them in the first place LOL i have no real or true understanding of them... i just know they come and i love them! unconditionally. i just love them.

hubby drove our son's g/f home so i'm waiting to finish the movie. about 20 minutes left... we won't watch all three tonight. i'll be ready for bed very soon. i have to work tomorrow and want to get a good night of rest in first.

AND... fun, love, joy and light is what it's all about cathy. having a giggle in this thread is a lovely addition... so let's do it often!

i've been holding one of my 10" crystal points while watching the movie. hoping to use it to assist me with clearing any energy which needs clearing... it seems to be working. i feel amazing right now.

oh hubby is back... later fasting divas!

;)

i feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel good! i knew that i would.... i feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel good!!! i knew that i would...

so good.
so good.

ahhhh yup this is my morning. i feel goooood! i only got up once to pee last night and i drank lots of water into the evening, so this surprised me greatly! i'm sipping on my 2 litres this morning and then off to work with a litre of grapefruit juice and a litre of young coconut.... ahhhhh i love my life!

Singing right along with you Aleesha :p Today is my 2 week mark!! So cool to be here.

I stayed up too late for the last 3 nights watching LOTR, but my children had a blast and so it was worth it. However, I've informed everyone that we are all going to bed on time tonight :rolleyes:

I have some errands to run this afternoon and so I'm taking a big jar of watermelon juice with me. I think it will taste soooooo good. And I'll be buying lots of pineapple and cantaloupe!! Ohhhh I can't wait ;).

Cathy :D

Aleesha Sattva
06-14-2010, 11:12 AM
mmmm mmmm gooooood

have you tried adding a little mint to your watermelon? i'm going to give it a try. i'm thinking of juicing some mint and then freezing it (watered down a bit) into ice cubes and adding that to some water or juices.

just to change things up.

you can also just suck or chew on the ice cubes and it's a yummy treat! i looooove chewing on ice chips - fasting or not - since it's coming to summer... why not!

GoodCat
06-14-2010, 11:37 AM
Okay... I love that idea (about the icecubes). And that would be so refreshing and cool in the summer heat.
I am growing mint right now, but its not big enough to harvest yet. And its soooo expensive in the store. But I will definately try that as soon as my mint is a little bigger ;)

Ohhh.. I have a snowcone maker for the kiddos. I could juice and freeze some yummy juices and then shave them in the snowcone maker. Okay.... now my brain is going :D

Cathy :D

I am liking your chippy moods ladies.

I love the idea of freezing juice in ice cube form. It's so fun to snack on little frozen sweets.

when i am not fasting i eat frozen fruit as snacks.

i had not thought about freezing homemade juice!
ok my brain is going now too. I'm going to make some peach cubes.

thanks for the great idea !!

feeling better today. sleep helped. very dehydrated, still fuzzy, and very stiff (like I have to become reacquainted with my limbs).

chugging water this morning and then will jump on trampoline, and bike to a quiet place to meditate.

have a nice day:)

I started my day off with a qt. of water. It really seemed to make a difference.

I enjoyed my watermelon juice while I was out. It really kept me going.

When I was checking out at the store...with 7 pineapples, 2 cantaloupe (thats all they had left), 15 mangos, 8 bunches of bananas, a bag of grapefruit, oranges, and apples, plus many other veggies... you should have seen some of the looks. People just couldn't get what we could possibly be doing with all that produce. We were even asked if we owned a restaurant :p I said I hope to someday. A raw food restaurant!!

Cathy :D

haha. i bet you stuck out like a sore thumb for sure.

I know that just simply going grocery shopping, due to the high volume of fruits and veggies and a lack of anything else, people make comments and ask if i'm dieting. or they say "well, you're sure healthy arn't you"

Cathy, I am infinitely jealous of all that fresh fruit. WOW.
i have not thought to juice mangos. I'm sure that and the bananas will help you transition into a more chewable diet soon.

today was tons of water, and just now i made some pineapple juice.

i feel like a totally new person after yesterday. i am so amazed at the difference. i have a feeling that the big glass of grapefruit juice i had in the morning yesterday was really pushing toxins out of me. I had an intense detox reaction.

Aleesha Sattva
06-14-2010, 09:33 PM
i've thought about getting one of those ice shavers... for the summer. i think it would be a very healthy choice for the kids and i - a great way to enjoy fresh juices shaved! mmmm

i had a great day at work but oh mama did i ever crave juice. i had about 3 litres of water before work and then i consumed 3 litres of coconut water and 1 litre of grapefruit juice. when i got home my hubby had a huge bowl of tomato juice waiting for me. mmm just what i needed.

i walked home from work. took about an hour. it's a nice walk but long especially after standing on my feet all day. but i'll happily take the exercise however, whenever i can get it!

not to the same extent as nadien... but it's my own level of exercise and it works for me.

i'm sipping on more water. i'm hoping to get a couple of litres into me tonight. i think i was dehydrated... cause it's amazing how much i'm craving liquids right now.

GoodCat
06-14-2010, 09:45 PM
We were definately a sight to see ;)

The bananas are for children, but the mangos will get mixed with the pineapple juice. Mango is very thick by itself.

I'm glad you are feeling better nadien. I have those days too. In fact, I'm putting the children down to sleep and I'm going to sleep too. I'm very tired tonight.

Aleesha.. I'ld take that walk. I love going for walks.. just not alot of time to do that to often :rolleyes: Maybe with the summer upon us, I'll have more opportunities.

Well.. Good Morning..

naughty Aleesha.. staying up too late ;) I too didn't get to bed until almost 11:00 :eek: I was so tired, but my husband (who works 60+ hours a week) came home and we were able to talk for a while. And then for some crazy reason, I couldn't sleep in this morning. I hate that. I do feel very tired, but maybe I'll get an opportunity to rest this afternoon.

My glands in my throat are a little swollen and sore today. Do you think it could be detox, or just lack of sleep :rolleyes:??

Well... I'm sitting here drinking a qt. of water and then in a little while, I think I'll get on the rebounder. Maybe moving things around a bit will help.

Oh.. and coconuts... I still can't even get any here yet. But hopefully soon I'll be able to try them again. To bad you have to suffer with grapefruit juice..hee..heee..

i love grapefruit juice.

after the second sip, i am totally accustomed to it's bitter bite and chug it back.

this morning:

a BIG glass of frothy orange juice
glass of lemon/apple/kale/lettuce/spirilina

I am so in LOVE with the Green Lemonade deal. genius is the person who thought up that mix.

off to do some yoga, and then to see a concert in downtown T.O

am hoping lemon water will sustain me. I really don't like drinking old juice. i find the taste changes so much. (I only have a centrifugal juicer so that doesn't help).

have a nice day ladies. :)

Nadien, was it you that had your father fasting with you one day last week? I suppose I am about his age and was so pleased to hear that you had him as your fasting partner.

May I ask what your dad's opinion or results for the day were? I'm curious how it went for him. Was it his first time fasting....will he do another soon.....etc? That's fine if you don't care to discuss his results for him, but I imagine it was very favorable to your endeavor, having him fasting alongside you.

Who will you be seeing in concert today, btw?

i was in bed by 10 cathy... so not too late really. that's what i usually go to bed. i wait for my daughter to go at 9:30 and then follow shortly after LOL

although some times when i fast... i'm in bed by 8 and i have to force myself to stay up that late.

all in all i just go with the flow...

i've got my litre of water down. weighed myself this morning and i've released 7 pounds so far. pretty nice since today is day three. ;) i have 25 to release in total so that leaves 18 more.

this last year has been a tough one for me emotionally. i won't go into details but it's been rough for me. my weight responded in kind... becoming a yo yo for my emotions. this fast is for me. no one else. this fast is my way of finding my centre. getting in touch with who i am. really... finding myself again. i've changed so much through this year of grief... and i need to find out who i've become and where i'm going.

i plan on going deep during this fast. it should be quite a journey!

my hubby is at the champion right now making me 3 litres of fresh watermelon juice. i'll take those to work with me today and enjoy them tremendously. the house smells amazing right now with the watermelon smell making the air intoxicating.

everyone... have you pooped? go drink a glass of water... right now... i'll wait here for ya. go on...

good.

;)
love ya all,

Hi!

I'm the proud new owner of a sunny yellow Champion, so I'm looking forward to having to a go with a juice fast! I'm so excited!! :D

I am nine days raw today and my body is feeling ready to fast to eliminate some SAD residue. I picked up the juicer and stopped at a few stores to stock up on fruit and greens. I'm clearing some stuff from the fridge tonight at dinner, then I'll start juicing first thing in the morning.

I've been reading your posts for the past few days and I'm excited to jump in with you! :)

everyone... you will not believe how much i've had to drink so far today (and i'm not done yet)... i started the day with 4 litres of water and a 1/2 litre of watermelon juice. then i went to work with 3 litres of watermelon... drank them all and my hubby brought me another 2 litres of watermelon and a litre of grapefruit.

they are ALL in my belly! i am soooo thirsty today. i'm sipping on more water now and i'll have watermelon or tomato for dinner... not sure which.

Hey all.. welcome along firefly!

Wow Aleesha.. that is alot of liquids. Your body obviously needs it. How wonderful.... all that flushing ;).

I still continue to have some sort of a bm...even on day 15. It still amazes me.

I too have drank alot, but not as much as Aleesha. I've had about 2-3 qt. of water... 1 1/2 qt. of watermelon juice... a qt. of pineapple juice... a qt. of carrot/celery.. and a qt. of tomato/veggie.

I'm still going strong. I had thought that last week I would start breaking my fast on Wednesday, but I really don't want to stop yet. I really want to give my body some more time to heal. So I'm going to keep on fasting. Hoping to get to Monday.

I'm have been really cranky today and my eyes are burning from being tired. So I am definately going to bed now, and hoping for a really good/long nights sleep.

Good Morning all.... day 16 for me!!!

Aleesha... you have soooo inspired me... that I'm sure I'll be on here doing some 1-3 day fasts just like you:) As often as I feel led.

I have to say.. I'm a little confused with what my body is doing. I've been drinking lots of water and juices and yet I'm having some issues. I can't seem to sleep well.... and this is causing me problems. I will go to sleep just fine, but then wake up a few times to pee and then around 5:00 and I can't go back to sleep. My eyes are red and blood shot and I just feel tired. I even took a warm bath with almond oil and lavendar before bed last night.
I also have neck and shoulder pain that has gotten alot worse the last few days. And I can't afford the chiro or massage right now. I did get some books from the library on how to heal neck, shoulder, and back issue. So hopefully they will be helpful.

I'm wanting to thinkg its just detox or something healing:p I wish I felt "glowing" right now. I want to feel that way. But hey... I did have a lot of good days too, so maybe this will turn around for me.

Sorry if I seem kind of down.. I'm not.. just a little frustrated. I really am happy I'm fasting. And I hopeful that is healing my body from the inside-out

Ohh.. and I just finished drinking a qt. of water!! Yeah for me :)

Cathy :D

Cathy,

When we fast our body goes to old injuries and releases any toxins and reheals it. I know I'm not saying this well... but we often feel pain when fasting. Like (for example) if you broke your arm and while you were healing you weren't eating healthy foods. Fasting goes in, removes the 'unhealthy' parts of the healing and replaces it.

So we can feel pains when fasting. It's a good sign actually!

Sleep... ah yes sleep. Often fasters find themselves existing on a few hours of sleep a night. It's all the body wants. It sounds though that you are tired from too little sleep. Have you tried a nap or meditation mid-day?

I just woke up and my hubby has grapefruit juice made! Oh I love this man. He's my juicer!

Last night I was sipping on water and my body said, "enough". My throat closed up and didn't want to swallow another drop. I feel really good I was able to give it all it needed.

We'll see how much it wants/needs today. I can't imagine it'll be as much again. But we'll see.

Hi ladies...

Day one of fasting for me and so far it's been easy...YAY!! :D This morning before leaving for work, I had some pear/apple/lemon/celery/dandelion green juice and took some mango "juice" (very yummy!) and another dandelion green concoction with me to work. I wasn't ever really hungry. When I noticed a rumbling, I just drank some water.

I'm noticing a dull headache right now. My plan is to mow the lawn and get the garden watered before it gets too hot, then I'll get a nap in a little later.

Cathy, where in Colorado are you? I'm in Denver...

Have a great day!

Aleesha Sattva

I've read through this entire thread, and I'm so inspired by you all.

I've noticed that my body recently has a lowered appetite and it's almost calling out for a cleanse. I've never fasted before (in a healthy way) and am feeling as if my body is craving it.

Right now it's finances holding me back, however when that is resolved then I would love to join you! Thank you for being an inspiration. :)

You know Aleesha.. I had read about that in the fasting books I have, but I totally didn't make the connection. I'm hoping that is what it is!! I actually have been feeling better as the day has gone on!! Yeah!

Also.. if I nap, I will not be able to sleep at night, but you are so right that I NEED to take time during the day to rest, pray, read, and breathe deeply. I'm going to make that a priority!!

firefly.. I'm in Colorado Springs. We go up to Denver a few times a year, but I have to say.. I love the small city feel of Colorado Springs ;) Do you enjoy Colorado??

And yes...yes... come and play. Its so much fun with more people!! And Aleesha is such an amazing moderator and encourager!!

I had some pineapple juice earlier and looking forward to some carrot/celery in a few minutes. Then its off to go bowling with the children. It should be fun!!

I have a question for you all... I'm looking to buy another juicer in August. We have the champion and it works great, but its old and I also want one that will juice wheat grass too. So I'm looking at the Hurom or the Green Star. Any suggestions or opions on that???

Thanks so much and welcome to all that are joining in on the fasting fun :p

I'm just about to the end of my first successful fasting day. I never did get a nap in today, but I'm thinking that instead, I'll head to bed early and get some yoga in before work in the morning.

Aside from what I mentioned that I took to work this morning, I had the juice of 1/2 of a cantaloupe. Funny story there...I've never liked cantaloupe, not the taste or the smell, but something possessed me to buy a cantaloupe yesterday. I drank the juice although it wasn't my favorite. I've also had about 20oz green grape juice (very sweet) and about 20oz of tomato, chard, cucumber, lemon juice. Having written it down it doesn't seem like a whole lot, although in thinking about it it seems like a lot. I was kind of worried that I was drinking too much juice, but a few of the places I've looked say to drink to my heart's content.

I have lots of stuff to juice! I bought a 10-lb bag of oranges and some grapefruit today. I have mangoes ripening on the counter. I also have spinach, kale, peas and dandelion greens. I might have overdone it with the shopping. Hopefully it'll keep for a few days while I work through it.

Cathy, I love it here, Colorado is home for me. I've only been back a few years, but I hope that I never have to leave again!

Hope everyone has a great night!

Cathy,

I'll bet that's what was happening! (new healing)

Taking time for meditation, prayer etc is soooo important when we are fasting. I find I get into such a deep spiritual place. My Shamanic Journey's are so much deeper, my meditation is so much clearer... I love who I am fasting.

As for a juicer... I have a champion and a greenstar and we seldom use our champion anymore. I was just saying to my hubby today. Watermelon juice, cantaloupe juice... they are a whole new experience with a greenstar. The taste, the colour... truly breathtaking!

But... you have to be patient with it. It takes time to juice. It's not a quickie juicer - hence why we still have the champion. We use it when we are in a super hurry and need to juice and gooooooooo.

fire, you'll find that you go for different things on your fast. continue to go with the flow... cause it's your body saying "hey ma, i need this!"

~~~
i just got back from market. picked up some green onions to go in my tomato blend for dinner. hubby is making it right now for me!
i also picked up an orange melon. it's ripe and i'll be having that tomorrow. i'm super excited about it! i've never had one (looks like a honeydew melon but it's orange on the inside).
i can't remember what someone made with honeydew... i'm going to go check my 'notes' to find out and perhaps i'll make that!
i drank: mayyybe two litres of water max today. one litre of watermelon, 1/2 litre of beet/celery (although that is NOT what i ordered at the juice bar)... and now i'll have my tomato blend.
today's consumption was half of yesterdays... so glad i listened to my body and gave it what it obviously needed!
I knew the Green Star was good, but took a little longer to juice. The Hurom is supposed to be good like the Green Star, but quicker with juicing. I don't know. With my children helping do the juicing, I was wanting something they could use too without killing their arms :rolleyes: Maybe I can go somewhere to see them both being used and try them out.
Ohhh.. I love green onions in my tomato drink! I also put red onion. Today I've had about 2 1/2 qt. of water, 1 qt. carrot/celery, 3 c. pineapple, 1 qt. tomato/veggie, and 2 c. grapefruit juice. I really enjoyed my juices today.
Tomorrow I have cantaloupe on hand to juice. Yummy! I've never had orange melon either. Please tell how it tastes :)
Until tomorrow,
Cathy
P.S. I did pretty well bowling with the kiddos... My high score was 164, but the first game, all but one child beat me :p
Good morning! :)
I feel good this morning! I slept great and feel skinny this morning! :D
I just finished my first juice of the day...carrot/grape/snap pea/dandelion green/spinach. It was good! I've also got some of it with me for work as well as some orange/grapefruit juice.
I'm headed out a little early this morning so that I can get some quiet time in before I head into work. I find that it's difficult to meditate at home because my cats want my attention. So I've taken to doing it in my car in the quiet of the early morning.
Have a great day, ladies! :)
Good Morning...
I hope your day is wonderful firefly. I seem to have the same issue, but with 6 children instead of cats :p
Aleesha.. thanks for the info. on the Green Star. I rather have that one anyways because I believe it to be better, but I'll see if rev will chime in ;)
I too love my tomato/veggie juice at night. I look forward to it all day. The flavors are so very amazing. I am definately going to be making this for myself even when I'm done fasting.
How did you enjoy LOTR?? We loved it!!
I've been making sure to get 2+ qt. of water the last few days, and it really seems to be making a difference. I've already had 1 qt. so far today.
Morning everyone!!!
Cathy the tomato blend will also assist your skin with a natural sunscreen! Enjoy not burning as long as you are consuming it daily. ;)
We love LOTR - hubby has read it a few times a year for as long as it's been around so the movie is a love of his. We watch the series a few times a year. ;)
Hubby is making me some grapefruit juice. I woke with a bit of a scratchy throat today - just some detox. I welcome it!
Ohhh.. another reason to drink my lovely tomato juice ;)
Doing good today. I'm feeling better today. I'm still sleeping kind of restlessly, but I'm not waking up tired. I still tend to feel a little sluggish/tired through out the day, but I'm thinking it might still be my adrenals needing to heal up. So, I'll keep on keeping on!
Every day is a gift and should be treasured!! Thanks for reminding me.
My husband loves LOTR too. In fact we just got him the book "Silmarillion" for Father's Day (he already opened it...couldn't wait :rolleyes:). Its the must-have companion to the epic masterpiece The Lord Of The Rings (can you tell I copied that from the book:p).
Anyhoo.. sipping on some pineapple/mango juice... LOVELY!!
Nadien, was it you that had your father fasting with you one day last week? I suppose I am about his age and was so pleased to hear that you had him as your fasting partner.
May I ask what your dad's opinion or results for the day were? I'm curious how it went for him. Was it his first time fasting....will he do another soon.....etc? That's fine if you don't care to discuss his results for him, but I imagine it was very favorable to your endeavor, having him fasting alongside you.
Who will you be seeing in concert today, btw?
HEY!
I'm sorry to respond so late. i've been absent from the internet. im am glad to share my dad's experience with you.
He actually continued juicing for 3 days and then went on to juice in mornings then eat all raw in evenings for a few days.
then he transitioned to juicing/raw with some soup or stew for supper.
he had a headache the first day, i think it is because he is a big coffee drinker usually. but he couldn't believe how much energy he had and how light he felt.
he was so bubbly, my mom couldn't keep up with us. hehe
the only thing he complained about was that he was hungry. He is so busy all day with his work that he only managed maybe 3 cups of juice a day. on eating days he'd have 2 cups then couple tomatoes and a cucumber. so he was really skimping on the calories.
he feels so much better, only says positive things about his fast, and is actually going to head into another fast on monday once father's day is over. he has a feeling he might want to eat a nice meal on sunday. :)
this was his second fast with me. we did one in the fall, and it was a little too intense (it was an all water). he detoxed very quickly, from so many things at once. we did not transition into it slowly enough. because of the fast detox, he didn't last too long, and has been afraid to do it again.
oh and i saw CocoRosie. they were so so phenomenal.
.................................................. ..............................
hello fasters!
im so glad to see that others have joined this thread and that you Cathy are still going strong despite not feeling the best ever.
Aleesha, i hope you find the emotional wholeness and well being you are working for during this fast.
i feel like i am trying to do similar things.
Hi everyone!
I'm working on some pineapple/orange juice...YUM!!! :D
Cathy...when I went raw the first time about 5 years ago, I bought all the equipment, including a Greenstar. I'd had a little experience with a Champion prior, but wanted to buy the best. I know that a Greenstar can juice wheatgrass, but in all honesty, I prefer the Champion. It's does juice faster, has a bigger feed chute and I think it's easier to clean. Just thought I'd put in my two cents! :rolleyes:
I have a question for everyone...when you're juicing, do you leave the skins on? When I buy organic lemons, I'll juice them with the skin on. The oranges I bought are not organic, so I peel them. I ran the pineapple through with the skin on. I know that for things like cukes & carrots, there are alot of nutrients in the skin. I'm just curious to know how others do it, especially now that I'm juicing in quantity for this fast.
I'm headed outside to work in the yard a bit. I'll check back later! :)
Aleesha Sattva
citrus i remove the skin regardless.
watermelon skin on
cantaloupe skin off
mango skin on
pineapple ALWAYS skin off (or it can give you the 'i just drank glass' feeling)
Hey Everyone
I'm ready for some green juice! :) Here I come baby.
I've been looking for some people to juice fast with but it looks like my best option is to find some online buds, so here I am! My body could really use some extra care since I've been eating more cooked than usual and ug I can feel the puff bad. I'm ready to commit to eating a higher percentage of live veggies and I want to use this feast/fast to get my candida in check and rebalance myself so I can find a place of introspection and be inspired to make beautiful new goals.
I'll read the posts up to this one to catch up on you guys. Happy juicing!
I work 4a-1230p and I like to have a morning before work, so I usually get up around 0130. So that I can get a good night's sleep, I try to hit the sack between 530-630pm. Thus the 'sweet dreams'! :)
I had a decent poop today. I read in my fasting book and on other websites that they recommend enemas, colonics or other softeners. I'm hoping to not need any of them, but I've only fasted once for 8 days with MC, so I don't have much experience. Aleesha, can you shed some light on your own experience? :p Thanks!
First.. Welcome my*coco ... enjoy the fasting life.
firefly.. I hear you about the Champion. Its all I've ever used for over 10 years. However, I really want to start juicing more greens and wheat grass. So thats why I'm looking at the other juicers. I'll still keep my Champion though. And wow.. you do have to get up early!!
poop..poop... whos got the poop..:p Well, its day 17 for me and I'm still pooping ever day. Sometimes an almost regular poop and then a couple of little nuggets later. Okay ... that sounded kind of gross, but its true :rolleyes:.
I just finished my yummy tomato/veggie juice and wishing I had more. Oh well. Theres always tomorrow.
And tomorrow we are having a garage sale at my house. We are hoping to get rid of alot of stuff. I'm going to be juicing me some watermelon juice tonight so I'll have it for tomorrow. Yummy. Its supposed to be hot too. So maybe I'll do a little celery combo somthing :rolleyes:
Good morning...
I'm grateful to be back home this morning. It's been slow enough at work that we've been sending someone home early every day and I volunteered. I feel a little disconnected from myself this morning, if that makes any sense, and also a little hungrier than I have been. I made a veggie juice for breakfast this morning that didn't go down well from the first sip, I just couldn't tolerate it. I started over with a fruit-based green juice that was much better. I've already finished the other juices that I took to work as well.
I'm going to take a nap this morning and see if that doesn't help. I don't feel bad, I just feel a little strange :o
Firefly, what you are feeling sounds pretty normal as far as fasting goes. Take time to centre yourself... focusing on your breath helps, perhaps even going for a walk in nature.
Good morning everyone!!! Another amazing day is unfolding before our eyes. My bed was soooo comfy last night. What a pleasure sleeping within the cocoon of my covers. Ahhhhh
mmmm i just made grape juice. i used green grapes and then used up the rest of the purple grapes.
the green are really tart and i'm loooooooving them but in the future i'll probably do a blend of the two grapes. my fav is black grapes but those aren't in season here yet.
i got so much juice - 1.5 litres of juice from one bag of grapes! my greenstar barely had any pulp come out but what did was dry like dirt!
mmmm yummers. :)
there was local mint on sale at the market. a huge bunch for 1.99 so i grabbed two bunches and i'm going to juice them and freeze them in ice cube trays. i'll add it to water, hot water (for a tea) or a juice whenever i want.
i can also just chew on one to freshen my breath!
just got home from a huge walk. ahhhh i love my life!
I had a really great day today. After posting this morning, I allowed myself to sleep without setting the alarm. I slept somewhere in the range of 2-3 hours, not sure exactly. Afterwards, I did some household chores and headed up to Red Rocks Park for a hike. It was a glorious day and I got a good 3-mile hike in. It was lovely to get out of town a little ways and out into nature again. I carried a camelback for water and a bottle of orange/mango juice.
Good Morning All...
It was a crazy day yesterday. I had a garage sale (today too) and a family came over to visit with us for the day and ended up staying for dinner too.
The great thing... I was not even tempted by all the food that was flying around our house because of so many people and doing lunch and dinner together!! It felt good!
I had my watermelon juice, pineapple juice, carrot/celery juice, and tomato/veggie juices through out the day. Yeah!!
I ended up taking a few of my natural suppliments for my adrenals because I just wasn't sleeping at night and was getting very tired. The good thing... I slept from around 10:00 until 5:00 without waking up once!!
So.. another garage sale today and then I'm done with things "to do" for a while! I hope you are all doing good.
And hearing about grape juices and hikes make me just want to grab the kiddos on Sunday and get outside. I just may have to do that!!
Guess what I'm doing today? Yup... I'm spending it outside. Working in the yard, going for a walk... may go to the bird sanctuary and go for a walk there too - it's so beautiful there.
I'm not sure what juices I'll have today. I have two beautiful watermelons to juice - a gorgeous pineapple - lots of apples - parsley - mint - tomatoes and all the fixings for it and of course... some young coconuts. So I'm not concerned at all. Just have to make choices is all.
so glad you slept well last night cathy. i did too. oddly enough - i haven't had any fasting dreams this fast. normally i do but i've had none.
today completes my first week fasting... feels so good to be doing this for myself. (((hugs)))
Speaking of dreams, I've been noticing that I've been dreaming at night about what juices I'm going to make the next day!
My folks and I are headed out for dinner with my sister/B-I-N/nephew. I'm going to take juice along and go for the visit. So far today, I've had apple/lemon/celery/spinach juice, orange/mango and apple/grape/kale/cucumber juice. I have grapefruit juice made already, I may have that shortly. Well.. Good Morning Friends..
I've been sleeping better, so that is nice. Today is day 20 for me!! I will be breaking my fast tomorrow. I'll do it slowly like it says in the fasting book. I still don't feel wonderful, but I know this is a process and that more fasts await me! I want to keep my eating habits as simple as possible to continue this healing process.
I'm so thankful for these boards and all the support and encouragement they contain!! You are all wonderful! Hopefully I'll be on often with you all ;).
So far today I've had a qt. of water. I'm going to do a little rebounding to help keep things moving. I am still having a bm every day. And later it will be some more pineapple juice. I'm not sure I want to try the watermelon today or not. It really hurt my tummy yesterday, but we'll see.
Its going to be another beautiful day around here, so I think I'll take my kiddos to the park. My husband has to work today, so we are going to take him some treats and cards and then maybe go to the park.
Anyways.. had my pineapple juice while out. My tummy is still not feeling wonderful, but not to bad either. Part of me wants to continue fasting to let all these issues work themselves out, but I've already committed to some things at the end of next week. What to do....:confused:
Kind of... we are going out of town on Thursday. We will be with friends who are not very healthy. It won't be to hard to bring vegan/raw foods, but to be able to bring enough juices wouldn't be too easy. Plus, my children are needing me to prepare more raw for them. When I'm fasting, I don't really want to make alot of yummy foods, so I kind of let that slip. So, I do think its time, I just need to realize I can always come back :D
I'm sipping on some cantaloupe juice right now.. yummy!
Welcome!
I just got home. Today we made strawberry ice cubes (from strawberry juice) and some mint cubes as well. I'm really excited to give these a try. I plan on doing watermelon cubes and pineapple cubes. Ohhhhh I am excited just thinking about it.
I love changing things up when I'm fasting and although I have used a spoon to scrape a party frozen watermelon juice before, I never thought of freezing them in cubes to suck/chew as a snack.
If that won't get me through the tough times I don't know what will!
I'm having a great day... busy but great. Time to take a breath and slow down.
Oh I forgot to share... I took some watermelon juice (500ml = 2 cups) and juices 4 mint leaves (large) and one fresh strawberry together. Ohhhhhhhhhhhh myyyyyyyyy. I loooooooved it with the mint and watermelon and then adding the strawberry... honestly I felt like I was drinking something super special.
I also made one juice with some parsley in it... it was nice but not as nice as without the parsley and just using the mint, strawberry with the watermelon.
So now I have these cubes... they aren't JUST for snacking on. I'm also going to add them to other juices to change up the flavour a bit!
hi fellow fasters.
still fasting over here. my dad is rejoining me tomorrow.
I am reading lots about your juice cubes aleesha. I in fact made some pineapple/cherry cubes and they were AMAZINGLY fun to chew on. I felt so spoiled, not deprived of anything.
Cathy, congradulations on your fast! You've accomplished something that not many will even attempt. I am very inspired by your willpower.
This coming week, my dad and I will be juicing mostly greens and apples and strawberries. We have an over abundance of those and are lacking anything else.
be careful with the strawberries... they can be a little 'thick'... so watering them down or adding them to a thinner juice is good. ;)
off for the night... sipping on my amazing watermelon/strawberry/mint blend!
Well... I should be coming off my fast today, but I just struggled with that decision so.
When my husband came home last night we were talking. He told me that if I feel I can still go on I should. That this was an opporturity for me to make strides in my health issues. He said the children will be okay a week from now. That me being healthy would do more for the children in the long run.
So I thought alot about it last night and then had some crazy dreams. Dreams of disease and lots of liquids. So I decided to keep fasting for another week and to give my body some more time to heal.
I'm still not sure what I'm going to do about out friends house. I'm thinking I will juice alot and put it into a cooler. We are only going to be gone a day, but I didn't want to offend our friends or have my juice get to warm. But I need to take care of my body right now and so that is what I'm going to do.
Aleesha... thank you so much for encouraging me. Its really helped me stay the course.
So... I'm drinking my qt. of water right now and will do my rebounder again today to keep my lymph system moving.
Shalom (Peace!)
Cathy :D
oh... and Nadien... thank you for the kind words and I'm soooo happy that your father is fasting with you again. I bet if he continues doing this, it won't be long before he starts giving up some of those unhealthy foods and starts really feeling better.
Cathy,
I'm so happy for you... very empowering to make a decision like this... very empowering. You are telling your body it comes first (possibly for the first time in a long time?). What a gift you are giving yourself. (((hugs)))
My hubby is the same way. He's so support and encouraging. He tells me to put my fast first and everything else will fall into place. I'm so glad I have in the past and really happy I am right now. I don't have expectations of myself to complete the number of days I've decided on for my fast... but I would love to achieve it if my body agrees. Only one way to find out... fast today... let tomorrow come as it will and keep my focus on today.
I work today. Taking some watermelon/mint/strawberry, pineapple/mint/spirulina, grapefruit and if needed, hubby will bring me more since I work very close to home.
Happy day everyone... happy day! http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x87/recyclinggoddess/hippie.gif
Thank you Aleesha.. You are right. Its the first time in a long time I'm putting myself/my body first. I love serving my husband and children. They are such a blessing to me. But I have to realize that if I'm not healthy then I can't take care of them either. So, I'm taking care of myself so I can take care of them.
Today is my shopping day. There wasn't a whole lot on sale, but I did get a few pineapples, grapefruit, and apples, and ..... grapes!! I was soooo excited to see them. Aleesha got me all excited about grapes and now I can try some!
Can you juice kiwi?? I bought some for my children and I love eating them, but wondered what they would taste like juiced :rolleyes:.
I did do my rebounder. Very nice.
I am completely new to all of this. My b/f and I have been talking about going raw for a few weeks. We have been doing research and did go competely raw for 3 days last week (it was really hard!) I was thinking about fasting but will definately need some moral support! Any advice would be great!
kiwi is a gorgeous addition in a juice! i loooove adding it to a tropical blend like pineapple, mango, kiwi... mmmmm yummy!!!
welcome brit, my advice to you is research, read and then read some more! the fasting threads in this section are a good resource and excellent place to start.
i had a juicy day! started with grapefruit... moved into watermelon/strawberry/mint (my new passion) and then into some pineapple/chlorella/strawberry... a couple of young coconuts gave up their water for me and then... we ended with another super sonic flavour blasting tomato blend! i have been upping my cayenne. i'm up to about 1+ tablespoons. mmmm so spicy!
i think i'll have some of my ice cubes for dessert later... just simply because they are there! i loooooooooooove that i've discovered this new treat for myself. it'll make the next 102 days way more yummy!
102 days :eek: Wow...Aleesha.. that will be amazing!!
Today has been a good day. A little harder then some, but good. I'm going to a chiropractor tomorrw in hopes of getting some relief from the upper back and neck pain. And with me fasting I thought it might help. We'll see.
And good to know about the kiwi.. I'll definately be trying that this week!! And the grapes.. Oh my :)
I slept pretty good last night. This darn neck of mine though is killing me. I really need to spend some time and money on it, but although I have the time, money is not so available. So I'll do my best to combat it.
I'm drinking my qt. of water. Its great drinking that first thing in the morings. You feel like you are one up on the day :p I'm not sure what juices I'll have today. We'll see what I feel up to a little later.
Its going to be another beautiful day around here. Not sure yet how I want to spend it with the children. I know I would like to do some sewing too. I love having free time.
Have a lovely trip Nadien!
Cathy,
I loooooooooove my sauna. I have a 3 ft amethyst geode in one corner and a huge 18" crystal cluster in the other. My hubby put little shelves in to hold a candle and other crystals/stones as well. It faces the bow window and shows my back yard in all it's greenness. Ahhhhh.
Many people, myself included, believe there is huge power in our thoughts and words. Look at how you talk about your neck. Perhaps try changing your words a bit - saying that your neck is sore but you are hoping the Universe/God will bring you relief soon. Just a thought...
I had my 2 qt.of water and about 3 qt. of other juices. I really think I needed a little more juice today though.
I totally forgot to put the cayanne pepper in my juice. I got busy making dinner for the family and totally forgot. Hopefully tomorrow though. And I'll start with a little at first :).
My husband and I took the children up to the park after dinner and it was beautiful out. There was a wonderful breeze and it wasn't hot. Just right. I loved holding my husband's hand and watching the children enjoying themselves so much. What a blessing!!
You may not want to watch this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NCf4vDb3qM) Cathy... but this guy is gorgeous and fasting. He's on Day 7 and wow does he have a lot of energy! This was sent to my by a friend today and I wanted to share it with anyone who may be reading this thread... it shows how good you can feel while fasting. Not every day is detox!
I had some odd dreams last night. First dreams of my fast. I worked in a health food store here in town and then I went to girl guide camp and during this dream I ate some horrid food... and then remember "Oh shoot I'm fasting" so I stopped eating immediately. *giggling* Weird dreams alright.
Oh and I knew I was dreaming during the dreams... which was odd for me.
Today is a super busy day. I'll be taking juices with me! It's gooooooooorgeous outside which pleases me greatly!
i know... mine doesn't always hurt. i thought about it in the tub... it's not every time but it is some times. i wonder if it has to do with how ripe the fruit is? just pondering really... i have no idea.
i have a bbq to go to on sat evening. i told them it can't be all about food... and i'll go for a walk (if i need to) while they eat. they live on a farm so there are fields for me to walk through with the dogs while they all have dinner.
some of the food being consumed in my home tonight made things a little hard on me but i'm super focused on staying fasting so i won't allow these things to shake me. i drank 4 litres of juice!!! yup, one after another... i had to to get through it. but i got through it!
cathy, i'm so happy for you. aren't you glad now that you didn't break your fast for this? you did it. you achieved sooooo much today. i'm soooo proud of you!
Ahhh... thanks so much Aleesha.. Yes.. I am soooooo very happy I didn't break my fast for this day. I do feel like each day I learn more about my body and my health. Its been so wonderful. And really... I don't know how long I would have gone without the support here Aleesha.. Thank you!
A BBQ .... I wish I had thought about taking a walk. That probably would have been nice. I see that no matter how many fasts a person does, there will still be times that are hard and we have to push past them. I need to remember that. It seems when you are just starting out, its hard to know what is "normal". I love this forum ;)
I'm wanting to go until the 30th. That would be a 30 day fast for me!! So I have about 6 more days to go. I have actually encouraged my husband to want try a fast by him watching what I've been going through and by sticking to this. I'm not sure when he'll do it, but I told him I would totally make sure he had juices to take to work and when he got home. So we'll see.
Ohhh... I also bought a young coconut today! I'm going to try it tomorrow. I'm hoping I'll like it this time. But if I don't, is there another juice I can mix with it that would taste good with it?? I really want to drink it because I know how healthy they are. I have apples, pineapples, grapefruits, and kiwis.
Well... I'm thinking another bath before bed tonight. My body is really liking them... so off to the bath.
Cathy :D
pineapple, kiwi, coconut water would be yummy i think!
i don't mix mine cause i looooooooooove the fresh taste alone. make sure it's very very cold!
and yes you are right. no matter how long you fast, there will be days and times during days where it is hard to continue and it's all about just finding whatever you need in that moment to continue. mine was feasting on juice. next time it'll be different... or not. it doesn't matter... all that matters is that i persevere cause that's where the growth comes from!
i'm going to make the most of the next six days with you cathy!!! we'll have second breakfast together! *clink*
Aleesha Sattva
06-24-2010, 10:40 PM
oh and remember... you need to take a week to break your fast. take it s-l-o-w nice and slow. if you think you are going slow enough... then slow it down a little more. ;)
cause your body is resting quietly... wake it like you would you children... with a gentle touch... butterfly kisses on their cheeks and a smile on your lips. your body deserves the same gentle waking... lots of fresh soft fruit for a few days... continue with juices and perhaps some green smoothies if you like them (watered down).
some people soak prunes... drink the water and eat the prunes to break their fasts...
no nuts or seeds for a month... salads on day 4 or day 5 depending on how you are feeling. go with the flow of your body... it'll let you know if you are moving too fast. if you are, just back off a bit... do a 1/2 day of juices and then start gentle again. backing off during a breaking is a gift you can give yourself.
Man I hate fasting during the summer. Summer fruits are my favorite and I look forward to them every year. I started my fast in the beginning of last summer and 150 of oj fasting later i missed all my favorite summer fruits.
I'm just finishing day two of my who knows how long fast. Not bad so far. I'm getting the stupid hunger pang cravings of course.
Good Morning...
chingon... I too thought I would miss some summer favorites, but I just juice them instead. And you know.... they taste wonderful!!! I love fasting!
Aleesha... thats what I was thinking about doing when I break my fast. I love how you put it (how I would wake my children). I'm trying to make myselft remember to go slow. Fruit and smoothies for at least 4 days and then maybe a salad on day 5. We'll see. I also have been thinking about nuts. I'm realizing that they really can't be a regular part of my diet even after that first month back. I love nuts and will over eat them and if I use them to much, my body doesn't do well. So I thought I would leave those for special occasions. But I do love seeds... I was thinking I could sprout them to be used that first month.. what do you think??
And the juice thing in a social setting. I would have totally drank more juice then I brought if I had had it. Its crazy how our bodies work like that. But I still did good, but I would have loved another qt. of anything yesterday :p.
So I'm drinking my qt. of water right now and I have a qt. of watermelon juice ready for me. Then its onto the young coconut!! I can't wait.
And I just LOVE second breakfastes!!! I can't wait. Who will I have them with after the fast :confused: I might have to do a one day fast every week just to get my Aleesha fix :)
I have a quick question for all you fasters out there.
I kinda sorta a little bit am fasting right now. I'm consuming only smoothies and fresh juices (between the two I'd say I'm consuming 32 ounces there, plus another 8-16 of coconut water/lemon juice) until dinner when I have a nice soup and something crunchy (like romaine leaves!). I'm also trying to keep up my water intake (I'd say at least 32 ounces a day). This is way more fluids than my body is used to, so I'm not surprised I have to pee a lot . . . but oh man! I've gone like every half hour this morning! Lots of clear pee, no pain when going. I'm pretty familar with the signs and symptoms of UTI and am fairly certain that isn't it. No fever, no pain, no cramping, no weird colors or smells.
So I have to assume this issue is due to increase in fluids. I don't mind, in fact, I'll get a lot more walking in each day! ;) I'm just hoping it'll calm down/stop after a while.
So that's my question to you fasters. Do you find after a period of mostly or solely fluid consumption, your body adjusts and you pee less frequently? This isn't an issue when I'm at home - but it could become really annoying while at work, or if stuck in a meeting or something, etc.
I actually plan to do at least a week long full juice fast soon, and then start re-adding solids slowly. So I'll probably be on this high liquid diet for at least the next month. I just would like to hear from the fasting experts that I won't have to pee quite *this* much sometime soon ;)
Thanks!
Rebecca... sorry for laughing but I am... *giggling* fluids in fluids out. Peeing is a good thing.
I have a super strong bladder and I can wait quite a while to pee. When I pee...I pee a loooooooooooooooooong time. But I pee a lot.
ching, welcome! 150 day fast... niiiiiiiiiiice. so what was that like for you? what were the gifts from it (if you don't mind sharing)
cathy, (((hugs))) i can't imagine elevenses without you!
the best thing you can do is try the sprouted seeds and see how your body reacts. you'll know in the 24 hours after you eat them. either they digested easily or not.
i slept weird last night... lots of super weird dreams. super weird dreams.
i'm sipping on water and some grapefruit juice.
Aleesha - I know right!! I drink a lot, I pee a lot! I totally get that ;) I'm just unimpressed with my bladder size/strength right now! I'm hoping an increased raw diet might help things.
Actually, ironically, after posting this, I had the first half of my green juice for today, and I swear the pee feeling got better! I wonder if that did anything. Or my body just ran out of fluids . . . for now ;)
Alesha- Honestly I really don't know how long that fast was. I kind of stopped counting after about 100 day as i didn't matter any more. But after those 100 days i went on for a couple of more months so it may have been longer then 150 days, or less.
The method i used came from a rouge dr. in the 1900's who had a 100% success rate curing folks. He had something like 60,000 patients. I think his name was 'Hay' something. What i did was get a 32ounce water bottle. Made 8 ounces of fresh OJ strained and filled the rest up with water. I would have 2 of those. Then I would drink 8 onces every hour. Drank some water as well when i felt like it. Every hour I also took an herbal lower bowel cleanse capsule. When in a fast your body is getting rid of accumulated waste so it has to come out somewhere. The herbal capsule did this as well as get my colon in shape. Even after 100 days of fasting I was still having bowel movements even though I had not eating anything. So if one isn't having bowel movements while on a fast then that can probably add some issues and side affects that come with these wastes not being removed. I just looked at some symptoms one gets on a fast and the only one i experienced was the lightheartedness from getting up to fast. I didn't get a healing crisis and all the other normal stuff. $5 says that has to do with me taking those herbal pills which made sure my body was expelling the crap it was getting rid of.
In several fasting methods I've read about this is never mentioned. Its something really worth considering. Then again most of the stuff in the health food/raw world drop the ball quite a bit on many subjects.
What did i get out of it? Well I lost a bunch of weight. Didn't get rid of my love handles though. My body probably became so efficient that small portion of nutrients I was getting from the OJ was more then plenty to live off. I probably should have transitioned to a water fast at that point. It also made me question the need for food. That stuff is more of a habit then anything else. But damn its yummy. Spiritually, well i don't get into that new age propaganda. The stuff that comes out of peoples mouth when it comes to that subject is ridiculous and they are just parroting something they read/heard/were told from new age/Freemason propaganda. Yes this raw food religion thing that is practiced right now gets its origins from the 'new age' which started in the 1800's and was pushed by crazy freemasons like Madam p. blavatski, alice baily, alisor crawly and a bunch of other nut jobs that are currently pushing this agenda. I say to you all if someone calls themself a guru then i say avoid that pied piper. Just look up what the word 'GURU' means. And if you religious and follow a guru you've just insulted whomever your god is. If one studies the estoteric and symbolism of the occult it becomes very blatent that the raw food/health kick religion thing is riddled with new age/freemasonry. Ok i digressed.
I did feel more alert, a bit more cognitive in a way, more aware of my surroundings. I felt pretty godd overall. Healthwise, i felt the same. Nothing exciting really happened.
Oh and i'm not bashing the raw food. I'm cool with raw foods. Its the new age raw food agenda I have an issue with. And yes there is one.
well you and i will have to disagree on that one. i'm very spiritual. meditate daily and focus much of what i do on my spiritual beliefs.
but this forum isn't about religion or spiritual discussion...
you lived on a little oj for that long? i'm very surprised you weren't deficient in many things when you completed your fast.
personally i use apple juice to remove any feces i feel i may need assistance with. works like a charm. otherwise a little cascara sagrada will do the trick. i wouldn't take stuff hourly though... but that's me. i'm more into allowing the body to do it's job on it's own as much as possible.
congrats on your fast!
Wow Aleesha, I know why you are the moderator. I suppose you are right. This isn't the place for certain discusions.
I would like to say that I'm a believer in the God of Israel and I believe in the Messiah and He taught that fasting and prayer/meditation is a good thing. So I think you should be careful lumping everything and everyone together. There is soooooo much to be learned by fasting and prayer/meditation.
Also... I have been fasting for 25 days now and have had a bm everyday without any outside "help". I think our bodies know what to do if we let them. Now I'm not saying there might not be need for some people for that, but each person needs to do what is right for them. No judgement here!!
I'm thinking another bath tonight. I'm loving those.
Good Morning...
How did your pondering go?? Were you able to drink anything??
I took my bath last night and went to bed. Its another beautiful day today. I little cooler and overcast, but wonderful. I'm thinking I might take the children garage selling. We love doing that.
I'm drinking my qt. of water this morning and then we'll see what the day holds. I really want to try that young coconut :rolleyes:.
I was just telling my husband how I think fasting in the summer is the best. There are soooo many wonderful fruits and veggies available to juice. Also, you aren't as hot as everyone else is when the temperature go up ;).
loving it!
nope, not a drop.
that is so true. super hot days don't bother me when i'm fasting.
i'm sipping on grapefruit right now. my hubby is making me a cantaloupe juice and a bunch of watermelon juice for the bbq we are attending tonight. my g/f has a champion so i think i'll take my tomatoes with me so i can have tom juice while everyone else eats.
it's a little cool here this morning. hope it warms up today.
I hope you have a great time at the BBQ Aleesha. I'm glad you'll be able to make your juices there. That should really help. Is this the friend with the cow named after you??
Well.. I did it. I tried the coconut water again. I you know what... I liked it this time. I'm thinking its because I've been doing this fast. I did howeve mix it with some pinapple/kiwi juice. It was very delicious! Thank you for the idea.
My littlest one (4 years old) is always asking for a cup of waterever juice I'm making (actually..all my children want my juice, but I can't do that for all of them all the time).. Anyway, today I gave her some coconut water with pineapple juice and her eyes got all big and she had a big smile and said.. "This pineapple juice tastes like coconut". She loved it!!
So.... enjoying the day!!
The only religion that I was ripping on was that of the green revolution. And within in that there is a lot of a lot variables that can actually be lumped into a category as there foundation comes from the same place. And yes there is an agenda. Studying the occult, philosophy, esoteric and lots of history makes that a quite apparent. Its why i have a tendency to rip on the raw food religion thing as the foundation of it comes from an old society with really bad intentions. Like i said, i'm cool with the food stuff but the religious dogma subttly injected into i'm not ok with. As the saying goes "there's nothing new under the sun."
I'll leave it at that as i wasn't trying to cause debate. We just have to do our homework and stay on our toes.
Alesha-
Why would I have any deficiencies after such a long fast? I felt as i normally do. Well just a little better. I can actually feel my body become efficient at processing what ever I put in my belly.
When I broke that fast i think i did it with a handful of almonds. Had avocado as well. Man were they delicious. My stomach had no problem digesting it at all. I even started experimenting with cooked foods my gut would pass it through like nothing. It felt like a finely tuned processing machine and was able to handle anything I put in. Problem is i kept experimenting with it and kept eating different cooked things to the point were it became a habit which kind of defeated the purpose of the fast. haha. I love food, its my only vice.
Today has been a tough day not eating. I really haven't had much hunger pangs. But my gluttonous eating habits were telling me to chow down on some almond butter. That lead to me thinking of other yummy things to eat. But man, I really want some almond butter and just might give into 1 spoonful. So that was my struggle today.
Here's are the 'rules' of this thread:
Please do not discuss specific food. Feel free to share "My hubby was eating and it was hard for me." Please don't share "My hubby was eating X, Y and Z..."
The reason we do this is so no one ends up getting a craving from a fasting thread. As a faster we can choose to click on a thread which discusses food but we need the safety within this thread to know food is not discussed. Juices are shared, green smoothie recipes are shared... but not 'chewable' food.
Thought I'd copy this here for you... since you missed it.
Cathy,
The bbq was cancelled so my hubby and I went on a road trip instead. I took 2 litres of juice, stopped and picked up a glass of ice chips and then later got a nice cup of herbal tea. We stopped in at a friend's house (3-4 hours away from our place) and visited for a few hours and then drove home again.
It was such a beautiful drive. I just looooooooved it. What a peace-filled serene way to spend such a gorgeous day. The sun was hot on our skin as we drove... ahhhh bliss!
Hubby bought a lot of cherries (as were in orchards) and so I'm going to juice a few tomorrow and make some ice cubes out of them.
I slept very deeply last night. Woke up refreshed for the first time in ages. Ahhhhh it's a lovely day!
The sun is out, we are going to the bbq today and I'm very excited to spend the day with my b/f and her family.
I realized yesterday on my little impromtu vacation from my home that's I'm in a really good place fasting. Feels very empowering and loving at the same time.
I feel so connected to my Self. I feel so strong. I just love this fast and all it's bringing with it.
I LOVE cherries. Okay, now I'm going to have to buy some cherries tomorrow when I go shopping ;).
I love going on a drive and enjoying the weather and company! It sounds like a wonderful afternoon and I'm glad you got to enjoy it!
It was a stormy afternoon around here, but we so needed the rain and it was beautiful. We did however get to go garage selling in the morning and had a great time too.
I really enjoyed my juices yesterday. All I have left for today (because I'm going shopping tomorrow) is grapefruit, apple, celery, and of course my yummy tomato. So thats what will be on the menu for today!
I just finished my morning qt. of water and it looks like another great day!
we posted at almost the same time this morning Cathy... ;) we are in sync!
i'm still sipping on my water... it's not going down as easy as it was at the beginning of this fast. unfortunately, that's pretty normal for me, i drink heaps of water at first and then it dwindles down. i hoped to change that this time... and am gently pushing myself every morning to get down as close to 2 litres as i can. we'll see how i do!
ya i've found that with all my fasts cathy. i figure it's my body's way of letting me know it's fully hydrated and happy!
of course, that doesn't stop me from drinking... but still some days... i drink very very little. i just need to watch during the summer that i'm getting enough fluids in. all in all... it seems to work fine.
oh and i suck or chew on ice chips a lot in the summer. pretty much daily. so that keeps me hydrated without drinking!
Well I might as well chime in here. I'm currently on a fast too.
It's only my second deliberate fast longer than one day. I've had plenty of days where I just don't eat. Not on purpose, it just happens that way.
But my first real fast was a MC for 11 days. And one word can describe it. YUCK. I got so tired of drinking the same thing and had to force myself to drink it. And actually on some days I would drink more water than the MC drink.
On this fast I have been using my juicer and juicing all sorts of things. I personally think if one's gonna juice fast and you have a juicer then it's so much better to get a variety of nutrients from lots of different vegetables and fruits. Not to mention all the wonderful different flavors.:)
Yesterday I drank a quart of beet/celery/carrot/apple/lemon/spinach/kale/collard green, in the morning. Then I went and helped my uncle all day lifting railroad ties and digging in the dirt with a shovel. I still had tons of energy. Then I got home and had watermelon juice. I felt sooooo good. Later I drank orange/apple/pear/a chunk of sweet potato the size of the orange/cantaloupe. I typically don't use the cantaloupe, but I figured I'd give it a try.
I like being to educate the people that ask me if I'm ever hungry....or if I don't have energy.... that you are still getting tons of calories, and you still have energy, typically much more. Most seem not to hear what I'm saying. They just think....no solid food = no energy. LOL They just don't seem to understand that I'm getting TONS of calories.:p
I also wanted to mention that on this fast so far I haven't craved food like I did on the MC. I dunno if it's because I've been using a variety of things or if it's because I was a little cleaner from the MC I did four months ago. possibly both?
Lastly, if I'm not posting then I'm still here reading. It's great to be able to drop in here if I feel like I need support to keep me going. Though I haven't really even needed to exercise any willpower except on the first day. And it's only the start of day four for me.
I think I'm gonna go make me a sweet potato/orange/carrot/apple drink. mmmmm:D oooh maybe watermelon.:rolleyes:
I'm thinking of another wonderful bath tonight and hopefully and wonderful nights sleep.
Another wonderful day for me. watermelon in the morning. Then some sweet potato, orange, apricot, apple, carrot later in the afternoon.
It was another day lifting railroad ties and digging in the dirt. I still had energy all day even though I only drank the melon juice in the morning. Though I felt that I would of had more energy if I had made a combination juice first thing in the morning.
Went to a cousins birthday dinner in the evening and I wasn't even tempted a little bit. It's been amazing so far how I don't crave foods like I did on my first fast doing the MC.
I have been wanting to figure out a good spicy drink though. Possibly one with some tomato, garlic, onion, veggies, cayenne pepper, and salt. My family ate something the other night with onion in it and I've been wanting to put it and garlic in a drink with some cayenne since then.:p
Pineapple juice is sounding very good too. If I get to town I'll definately have to get me one of them as well.
It's been a goood day.
fastfreedom.. my tomato/veggie drink sounds just like you are wanting. Its tomatos,celery,red bell pepper, cilantro, red onion, garlic, and ginger. Aleesha loves putting in cayanne pepper. I like to add a little olive oil and sea salt. YUMMY!!
Well I only drank about 1 qt. of water yesterday. Maybe a little more, but I just wasn't thirsty for it. But I'm drinking a qt. right now and we'll see how the rest of the day goes.
Aleesha.. your night sounds wonderful. A hot tub would be bliss. I wish I was sitting there with you ;)
Off to shopping :)
ohhh yeah. That drink sounds delicious. I'm gonna make when I run out of my current produce cus I need to get a few things I don't already have. And I'm too lazy to wanna drive to town. LOL Adding a little oil to it sounds good too. I wonder how hemp oil would tast in it. It kind of has a nutty flavor though.
This morning I made a drink of half a beet with half the greens/half a lemon/apple/stick of celery/a carrot/ a red bell pepper/handful of spinach/kale leaf/collard green leaf. Wasn't too bad, but not my favorite. I do think that it'll give me lots of energy though.:D
I love the cayenne pepper too. The stuff I found is 160,000 scoville units.
have a great day ya'll.:p:D
you can literally just use tomatoes, garlic and onion... you don't need other ingredients to make it amazing. i do like celery in it as well. then i add curry, kelp powder, cayenne and a touch of smoked sea salt (or not depending)...
not feeling well at all this morning. i have to work and i'm not sure how i'll do it if this doesn't pass soon.
Hi friends,
This has to do a little with an animals natural instinct to fast when needed. I'm kind of writing on our cat Precious' behalf. She's been fasting for at least a couple days maybe three/four. A water fast, as far as I can tell. I haven't caught her near the juicer at all :D . She'd stopped eating toward the end of last week and has been listless and laying low. She slept right through dinner a couple nights, and didn't seem to touch her food during the days either. Her dry food looked untouched, but she was having water.
Last Tuesday night, I was stung by a yellowjacket while in bed. It was no big deal, but I put a slippery elm poultice on it overnight which soothed it and I didn't pay the sting site on my forearm much attention for the next few days. Until Sunday evening, that is. The muscle in my arm went into a spasm with a pain resembling the sting, but deeper down, as though the bone hurt. I actually looked to see if I'd got stung again, it came on so suddenly. I watched the muscle contort, swell, and then relax, and an egg sized area around the sting stayed knotted up and a little swollen for fifteen-twenty seconds longer. This happened three times, each about an hour apart. After the third time, and more comtemplating on why Precious wasn't eating, I realized that I hadn't eaten all day either, and was in effect fasting also. I fjust didn't have an apetite all day. Suspecting it might have been my fasting that aided the clearing out of bits of venom left behind, helped me figure out why Precious probably stopped eating. I had let her outside to see what was up on the day prior to me getting stung. Looking back at several circumstances from the day of the sting, I realized one of us probably brought the little dive bomber in and it just happened to get us both (unlike bees, y/j's can sting repeatedly). It's all good though, as she began to break her fast with a little nibble from the bowl last night. Mrs. SS had the keen intuition to put out some soft food for her (a rare occassion for her....the soft food for kitty, not that Lisa had keen intuiton;)). I thought it was neat that what she went to first as her break-fast food, was the soft rather than the kibbles. We'd also looked in her mouth and don't think it was a tooth or gum issue that caused her to not eat.
I'll try to keep this in mind the next time I get stung, attacked by a squadron of mosquitos, or bit by a spider :eek:. I may launch into a fast to help ease symptoms and speed the breakdown or detoxification of venom.
I just wanted to share what I had seen with our pet fasting. It's still speculation that she got stung, but it made sense to me, and really eased my concern for her the moment I made the connection.
just got home from work. i'm very tired. heavy detoxin' today after my looooong time in the hot tub last night. i think i overdid it but am kinda glad i did cause now those toxins are OUT instead of in!
i drank coconut water - 2L and then watermelon/strawberry/mint - 2L a cup of fasting love tea from my lovely friend and now my hubby is making me some tomato soup/juice. i'll do lots of cayenne... to keep things moving OUT.
i have some cantaloupe juice that needs drinking... so i'll add mint to it later and sip it down.
1/2 litre of grapefruit and 1/2 a litre of water as well today.
had bad nightmare this morning... which woke me up crying. so today has not been a great day,... but my thoughts are positive!
