View Full Version : Organic Produce
Fresh organic produce is extremely hard to come by here in South Texas, the organic produce at the closest farmer's market to me(Sun Harvest) has a small variety and doesn't offer the freshest of produce. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get a hold of FRESH organic produce. I've tried finding companies that deliver and found some, but NONE deliver to my area or anywhere near it for that matter, sometimes I hate where I live.

Thanks :), I never find mangoes, avocados, watermelon, or a lot of that produce organic, but it's good to know they don't really have to be.

That list is misleading. There is no such thing as foods that you do not need to buy organic. They may be slightly better in terms of toxin levels, but they're still not safe. You can buy non-organic, but know that you aren't getting the full nutritional benefits, you may be consuming toxins & the produce may be modified in someway whether through growing, radiation or something else.
I almost considered getting conventional of some foods until I did much more research on produce and organic. Now it's very rare I will eat anything not organic. Obviously if you have no choice you need to do what you can. Make sure to use a good produce cleanser that you make or buy.
This should be moved to the appropriate section so more people can see it and respond.

I agree that organic is best but so is variety and being too rigid would mean loss of variety.
I myself buy organic where possible bit it is not always possible and when not possible I buy foods from the "safer" list conventional.
I never buy non organic from "the dirty dozen" and am prepared to do without those.
I guess I'll just eat what ever I can find that is organic and avoid the rest until I find organic versions. I don't have a lot of options but there is variety and I won't be deficient in anything.

I wouldn't worry too much about non-organic vs organic, I doubt there is much of a difference. There have been constant debates and so much information that no one really knows what is right and wrong, or what will happen to us when we're older.
Of course both sides are going to defend their produce, it is a business. We have so much pollution everywhere that no matter what you do you're going to be breathing something in.
They've done studies and sometimes organic comes out ahead nutrient wise, sometimes they're relatively the same. Just buy what you can find/afford and you'll be fine. You won't miss out on anything serious.

Great to be hitting the farmers' market for the freshest produce you can get your hands on. I cannot always opt to pay the organic prices--budgets are budgets. I do go for the freshest looking and ask the farmers what they use. Often am surprised many are pretty natural in growing their offerings.
