Hello. I've had several bananas lately that have strange centers toward the bottoms but as far as half way up. It's sort of woody, almost crunchy but not hard, VERY fibrous. Sometimes it has a reddish tint.
This is the third batch of bananas I've had this way and I'm wondering if I've just never bought bananas at this time of year before or if anyone out there knows what I'm talking about.
Any ideas?

I know exactly what you're talking about, but have no idea why it happens. I just usually pick it out and finish the banana off!
I don't get that all the time but as you said, when it DOES happen, it usually the whole bunch.

Same here, it seems to be the whole bunch. I suspect it has to do with the age of the bananas. Maybe they were picked too yellow, or something?

Interesting. I hadn't thought of that.
I pretty much just pick it out too. I was just wondering if anyone had maybe researched bananas and knew what it was.
