Last night i went to a high school awards ceremony for my daughter who is graduating.

This time I planned ahead by calling the hotel where the dinner would be served and asking if it would be ok to bring my own food. In the past these planned events have always been my downfall. I just hated to draw attention to myself, appear to be an exception, want special ... blah, blah, blah. I could tell that the hotel food people were not too excited to have me bring outside food in, but when I explained that I was on a "restrictive diet" and that I would only be able to eat raw produce they acquiesced.

OK, here comes the good part. The three of us were part of a table of eleven people. The table was beautifully set, fine china, crystal, rolls, balls of butter, cheesecake at each place setting, salad already dressed and set all around. We sat, made introductions and chatted...soon the salad plates were cleared. As my salad plate was taken away i spoke with the server and asked for a clean empty plate, "I'm on a special diet and brought my own food." She brought me the plate and as the others were served i slipped my nori roll from the paper box i had brought in onto the plate. Well, that's when the questions came. I felt like a missionary. I tried not to be overbearing. But, the questions were good and my happiness in eating this way is apparent. My answers were short, friendly, and my food looked and tasted amazing.

Tonight I attend another graduation dinner...same daughter, different celebration. This time I am drinking a green smoothie before i go and then just picking.

happy day!

Way to go!

It's really surprisingly easy to pack along our own food. I haven't met a restaurant yet who objected - especially when I ask them in advance if they have any organic fruits and veggies (teehee!). That usually cinches the deal. *Ü*
