Hey there everyone. I've been trying to go raw off and on for about two years now...and can never seem to do it. I want to go raw tomorrow...but the thing is I'm pretty strapped for cash. I'll have enough money to eat in about 10 days...but I just dont want to wait until then. I'm wondering if I used the money I have now and went on a green smoothie fast for a little over a week (since that's reletivly cheap)...if that would be beneficial, or if it would be best to just wait a little bit. I know green smoothies are great for you, and I'm thinking a short smoothie "fast" would also help my body cleanse itself. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. I have about 40 dollars...which may seem like more then enough for 10 days, but I have to eat A LOT to sustain myself. So if you have any thoughts on this green smoothie fast I would love your help =]
Thank you all!

Honestly, I consume more when I have green smoothies than I could possibly eat otherwise. If your object is to save money, I'd just eat the food itself.
Either way, bananas and greens are really affordable. =]

Thanks Shels =] I find green smoothies filling too, which is why I thought it would be a good idea haha. I guess I'll go for it then. The only problem I really face is not getting bored of green smoothies! haha. I'll have to be on here all the time looking for new recipes I suppose =P

I could be wrong but from what I have read it seems that a juice feast is actually quite expensive...more so than eating raw. I think that you would be drinking 4-5 quarts of juice and I know that the average cost of one of my green juices is probably about $2 and that is not even a quart. So by that math, I would be looking at $4 per quart and 4-5 quarts a day would cost me $16-$20 per day. Perhaps there is a difference in a smoothie feast and a juice feast...I don't know. I am new to all this and also struggling with the financial part of the raw lifestyle.

Thats defenitly one of the hardest parts for me too. That's actually what I've used in the past as my scape goat..."I just can't afford this." It was really just an exuse to eat SAD food again though haha. Hopefully this time will be different. Everyone on this forum is SUPER nice and willing to help everyone out. I know with all the support here we can both do it! Good luck on your journey!

Thanks and good luck to you too. I do really like it here and have been learning a lot. Unfortunately yesterday I got the bad news that my hours at work are getting from 24 per week to 8 (eight) per MONTH. If that's not a kick in the teeth...

Wow I'm really sorry to hear that! I can't even imagine. I recently just lost a very good job, and had to get a part time one making minimum wage. I can barely afford my rent, but because of that I get free money for food thanks to our government haha. It can be kind of embarrasing but Food Stamps really help out. Either way I hope things turn around for you!

First of all, drinking green smoothies is not fasting since all you're doing is blending what food you might normally be eating AND, I, like Shels, will eat more when drinking smoothies than not. Reason being, the food is already blended and it's much easier to drink than to eat. If you want the benefits of eating raw, eat it, don't blend it.
As WVR says, drinking just juices will be even worse as you've got no fiber, but then, you didn't ask about juicing. ;)

I hear ya...I have already applied...lol...I figured I have been paying in long enough and have never used any assistance...it's my turn to get some back. It wouldn't be so bad but I have a 3 year old and another due in July.

When I'm strapped for cash I do alot of carrots, oranges, bananas.....whatever is super cheap for a large amount! now that the weather is warmer you can hit up local markets for cheaper....plus they usually will bargain with you :)
