Hello,
My name is David and I have been doing raw foods for about 5 weeks now. For years, I had a difficult time swallowing food and liquids. Somehow it would just stick in my esophagus and hurt really bad. I occasionally had heartburn, but never thought much about it.
In January I began suffering really bad from discomfort in my throat. I was finally able to see a doctor about this once I had blood in my stool. I had to see a specialist that had me do an edoscopy. They found that it was the early signs of an ulcer.
The doctor put me on medications that worked for about a month and quit working. The doctor wouldn't listen to me and told me to keep taking my medication. Since it wasn't working, I began taking Prilosec which worked for about 2 months, but then it stopped working. After several doctor visits, I was taking about 8 pills a day to make the discomfort go away and nothing was working.
I saw some friends that are into raw foods and told me I had an enzyme deficiency. They gave me some vitamins to take. I was on my 7th day of straight heartburn, so I tried them out. Within hours, the heartburn began going away in my throat. I began looking into the raw foods diet and things have been good ever since.
I'm no longer on any medication for heartburn, but I still occasionally have problems. The problems arise when I decide to get "cocky" and eat too much late at night, or eat something spicy.
I'm about 75% raw now and still eat meat, fish, chicken. I have at least one cooked meal a day and that's usually dinner.
I'm glad to of found this forum. I'm still not completely relieved of the heartburn, but it only affects me 10% of the time as opposed to 90% of the time. :)
