Howdy everyone. It's been a while since I've been here! Last time I was hanging around, I'd been eating 100% raw for a couple of months, and my skin was b-e-a-utiful. But then my sister came to town for a visit....and I started drinking coffee with soymilk...and then I started to eat chocolate...and, well...my skin is now not so pretty!

So I've come to the conclusion that I have some sort of food allergy. I know that most people here can agree that diet is the primary cause of healthy or unhealthy skin. For me, I've pretty much narrowed it down to the following things: soy, coffee (caffeine?,) chocolate (even vegan!), and wheat.

I cut out coffee again about two weeks ago, and things are looking better, but my skin is still really oily.

Has anyone noticed caffeine having crazy effects on their skin? What about green tea? (I LOVE green tea...but I would cut it out for my skin to be clear again.)

Oy.

This is exhausting.

But I'm back on raw now. Woo hoo.

It may be the caffeine, but why don't you try the green tea and if you notice your skin still misbehaving, then it can be safer to say its the caffeine.

coffee is terrible for my skin.

It gets really uneven looking, blotchy, and just looses its nice glow.

Things that make me break out: SOY, WHEAT (especially buckwheat), DAIRY.

Oh my goodness, get as far away from the soy as possible. Research it, especially as it correlates to estrogen. I'm not informed enough to explain it, but it's very very very bad for you.

I'm a firm believer in chocolate, but, coffee.. you'll be better off without coffee. As for wheat, it's proven to be bad for acne. *shrug*

Congratulations for being raw again! *cheers*

Interesting how people are reacting to coffee. I used to use coffee beans as a body scrub (made my skin extremely soft, btw). And supposedly, caffeine can have good benefits to you system and skin. So, what's going on here?

Supposedly? Hitting the adrenals and having that rush just to have the drop to have the rush is a good thing? It's one of the worst addictions many people have.

I can't explain it either except to say ~ when I eat soy I get hot flushes immediately.

I'm a firm believer in chocolate, ...

I'm curious as to what it means to be a believer (firm or otherwise ~ if one "believes"... are there levels to belief?) in chocolate. Chocolate is. One doesn't have to believe in it. Just curious here.

Oh, trust me, I know soy is not good for you! I hadn't eaten it in forever, and then lapsed into the chocolatey goodness of chocolate soy milk. I'll stick to raw chocolate almond milk from now on.

Does anyone know if the raw brands of chocolate have less caffeine than regular? I've heard that raw cacao doesn't have caffeine in it.

Even if it's not the coffee that is horrible for my skin (although surely it can't be good,) it makes me feel shaky and crappy anyway, so I know I shouldn't drink it. But yes, I'm in agreeance with Revvell that it is certainly one of the worst addictions.

It's so frustrating! I had perfect skin for once in my adult life, and then it started acting up again...ugh.

Shels, I'm a firm believer in chocolate too. ;)

Just a silly expression. :p I meant I am a chocolate-lover, and I have no adverse reactions on any level when I eat it. I've tried cutting it out, but I didn't see any improvements so I let myself indulge sometimes. :)

Mmm, I understand about the soy milk temptation! People order soy lattes on a regular basis where I work, and when you steam it it smells like caramel.

Aw, I know how discouraging the skin issues can be! All I can really tell you is the higher your diet is in raw foods, the better your skin will be. Just listen to your body.

It's amazing to watch your body react to things.

fr a while I was testing my skin to see what it was exactly that was causing my acne.
I would eat an all raw diet, as I never have any skin reactions when I eat just fruits and veggies, then I would throw in Soy. It is one of the worst.

Beer gave me terrible acne as well! It also made me feel bloated, heavy. ..

Cashews really made my stomach upset. Made me feel very heavy.

coffee mde me short tempered, edgy, a little emotionally unstable, extremely dehydrated, and with all that came uneven skin

Grains (wheat especially), made me tired/lazy, heavy, bloated, the illusion of persisting hunger, and bad skin.

My advice, try singling things out! The results can be very enlightening.

I agree with nadien. process of elimination.
