Hey everyone, I woke up this morning and felt like it was time to share my full healing story with you all about what raw food has done for me!!
Thanks to Aleesha for her encouragement and support that I should share my healing story with all of you on the forum! :)
This is a huge step for me to do this. I've pretty much have kept this to myself for two years, except for the ones who are close to me, because I just was NOT willing to put up with any type of negativity pointing out that I can't be healed on raw food!! I'm very against any type of negativity, because I strongly believe it plays a very important part in my healing process and still does in other areas of my life!
I took a stand for my health and my positive attitude!! Now I'm really confident about raw food, I know with all my heart that raw food really does work!!
I almost died of a really high blood sugar level 2 years ago, in the 900 range. I was extremely thirsty to a point where I had to eat ice to keep my tongue moist, breathing really hard for air, felt like I was going to pass out for awhile, couldn't keep food down, my body wouldn't absorb any liquid and the liquid just went right through me. I had someone take me to the hospital and was in the ICU for 4 days.
The weird part was that I was determined to have a good attitude through it all and I knew somehow I would be okay! I just kept singing this song over and over in my mind that I am loved, I am protected, and my wounds will be made whole!
I recovered and so happy to be alive! And the message I felt like that was impressed upon me for a second chance to live was to live my life with the biggest heart of love that I can possibly have and find my one true love or soul mate. Love and goodness is all that really matters when it really comes down to it!
The doctors put me on insulin and I was okay with that at first. I was really glad to be alive, so I didn't care!
The first three months my vision was really blurry due to really high sugar level in the blood vessels of my eyes. The doctor assured me it would return to normal. It returned to normal after three months. I had to read everything with a magnifying glasses with my reading glasses on!! I even had to used the magnifying glasses when I went grocery shopping, so I could read the label, ingredients, and such.
I did a very extensive research about diabetes and herbs. I took alot of herbs and it did tone everything down. And I figured the food I ate in past is what had caused the problem in the first place along with lack of exercising, and the negative attitude!
Then later, I didn't want to be on insulin for the rest of my life. Thought the carb diet was ridiculous and not helping much!!
So I prayed about it and felt like I was guided to raw food without knowing that raw food movement exist. I was going by the Garden of Eden concept..
Once I started eating raw food, no more insulin from that point on. I really didn't care if anyone thought I was crazy!
Then I got really excited when I found out about the raw food movement, and I wasn't crazy after all!
So now it's been two years on raw food, got my tests done, and diabetic free, and getting healthy. My nutrition in the tests is all good and in the normal range!!
I was a real trooper through the whole thing!
I thank God for giving me another chance to live and to love!! And for guiding me to raw food and in all the ways that I needed to be healed!! It's truly a miracle that I'm still alive and no longer a diabetic!!
Love is the greatest gift of all, it's time for me to live my life in Love!!
Love to you all!! :)

Yeah, I was pretty amazed by the timing too. Every time I did look back where I was on raw food, I felt good at that point and feel even more better now then I did at that point. So over time, it just seem that I keep on feeling better and better on raw food!!
Bad attitude is really so not worth it!! After what happened, it really showed me that it's a waste of time to have a bad attitude and that I really needed to take the time to enjoy my life with a good attitude!!
And thanks for sharing your thoughts! :)

Hi everyone!!
I would like to share my healing journey with you all so far!!
Besides healing my body with raw food, I've been healing my body with movements/exercises too. I figure the body is meant to live on raw food so the body is also built/meant to move!! Makes perfect sense!!! :D
I completed the first round on P90X and now into the second round of P90X as well!! :)
This is also one of the best decisions I've made, is to invest in this workout program just like I thought purchasing a Vita-Mix, dehydrator, and food processor is a good investment for my health as well. Good investments for the health goes a long way!!!
Here is a pic of me after completion of the first round of P90X!!!

"I was extremely thirsty to a point where I had to eat ice to keep my tongue moist, breathing really hard for air, felt like I was going to pass out for awhile, couldn't keep food down"
This is very interesting. I am going through a similar thing... am having difficulty swallowing, can no longer lift my soft or hard palate, cannot breathe through my teeth or the roof of my mouth anymore. Doctors vary on what they say it is, but general consensus is a sinus infection, though I am dubious. I keep biting my cheeks when I chew, my teeth and gums hurt all the time, and my teeth roots are spreading out into a bony overgrowth...gums around teeth turning slightly white, like bone growing underneath? Starting to develop cavities, also, which I've never had in my life, and everytime I chew, food seems to get sucked up somewhere in my gums, but the roof of my mouth is so dry it is painful to the touch, especially glands, they burn! Tongue no longer fits in it and I have to keep it to one side of my right molars, I cannot even touch certain parts of my mouth anymore with it or they burn like crazy! On top of that, I definitely a wicked sinus infection that has lasted a year + now and is unresponsive to antibiotics, and I am combating a case of osteoarthritis and Crohn's so bad I have gone to the emergency room twice, all to no avail. See my thread, a Vague Hypothesis, in general. All this, + Aspeger's syndrome. Any help you could suggest would be appreciated?! Especially herbal and detox suggestions, I am scared to go through with this, I have had several emotional and physical abuse from both my father, my mother, my brother, my society, Mormon religion... I heard the detox is emotional, also. And on top of that, my bones are bending at an alarming rate, my colon wall has thickened to where I can no longer have a bowel movement, cannot swallow, cannot sleep (lasted 3 months), and it's getting worse! I am on experimental medicine, and doctor's are laughing at me! They kicked me out of the emergency room TWICE after a five hour wait each time, and I am so broken and in despair, I hope you can encourage me! Your story is very inspiring, thank you. I am afraid my collarbone will never go back into place, nor my back with all the shifting going on, but maybe I can cure my other diseases, including depression??

That was the final stage which was roughly for one-two days of serious dehydration right before I went to the hospital. Before that, I was really thirsty and my tongue was still fine, it just that my body wouldn't hold any liquid at all between one-two weeks before that happened. I was seriously low on potassium, foliate and electrolytes.
Coconut water is good for dehydration and has tone of electrolytes!!
Oil pulling may help as well.
I would seriously go to a integrative alternative medicine doctor and talk to him/her about everything. Your situation sounds pretty serious and I think integrative alternative medicine doctor would be a good idea to start with. Chiropractor, acupuncturist, naturopath/herbalist who can point you in the right direction for the right herbs to take and so on....
Louise L. Hay books has a holistic/metaphysics approach to healing the mind, emotions, and the body.
There is this one book called, Patient Heal Thyself by Jorden, N.M.D. Ph.D.
He had Crohn's disease as well and cured himself!!!
Alissa's book is a good start to get started on raw food.
I'm not a doctor at all and just sharing my experience with others of what raw food has done for me and how determine I was to heal on raw food.
I wish you the best on finding what you need to get onto road of healing!!

I am helping a friend with diabetes convert to a raw lifestyle - she was at a serious point in her illness where she kept getting ill and retaining a lot of fluid - to the point where she had to go the hospital almost every 2 wks. We have been doing green smoothies daily - and so far she has made improvements just from there.
Your story is amazing and I would love to hear more because I really would like to help my friend accomplish the same milestone of being diabetes-free.
I am taking Alissa's Level 1-2-3 Chef class next month and hope that I can be even more help to her and a growing circle of people in my community that are having trouble not only curing/managing their diabetes, but have had doctors and educators give little to no support in terms of exercise or nutrition to help them. It makes me cry to know that my friends are suffering, but it makes me glad to know that not only is there HOPE, but there is a PATH to take as well.
with a hug and a smile,

okorolina40 ~ The nicest thing about going on a raw food diet is that whenever I have eaten raw food in the beginning is that three or four hours after eating a meal, the glucose level would be back to normal. Now these days, I hardly check my reading, except for every once in a while. My A1C tests are normal these days! The doctors I've been to are somewhat skeptical about raw food.
As far as doctors go, I was really shocked to find that that doctors really don't know what to say as far as how to control glucose through diets and big on pushing insulin for a solution. They will just refer to classes and nutritionists. I asked alot alot alot of questions. So I did alot of research to beat this!! I even asked the doctor which was the best multi-vitamin to take and he said to me, "Let's not worry about that right now" and then kept talking about how wonderful the insulin pump was! I never saw him again after that visit!!! Insulin pump is something that I refused to be on!!!! No way!!!
First I went on the carb diet for the first two weeks while I was still on insulin and thought it was a bunch of b.s. because my glucose reading would still be above 200 after 3-4 hours. So I knew this was not a solution. Then the low glycemic diet came across my path and it help a little!!! I was getting frustrated!!! Then I found an article about how greens really heals the body and it got to thinking, "Well, that make sense, because God created these food for us to eat." And it also made me think about how man-made food is just randomly thrown at us without care about the chemicals that is in it!! So I did more research on it and it made perfect sense because of the enzymes that are in raw food helps and heals the body to stay in full proper function. And requires no enzymes from the body to digest because raw food has them already while SAD food takes away and breaks down enzymes that is part of the body to be able to digest the enzyme-less SAD food, which isn't really good for the body in the long run.
Alissa will be able to help you out with the questions you have on the subject!! She's so cool about answering questions!! You will love her classes!!! :)
I find that SAD bread, SAD pasta, SAD grains really spikes the blood sugar level and makes it linger high for quite some time!!
100% raw food is the way to go!!! And this will be helpful too is to drink a tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with a small glass of water before meals to prevent blood sugar spike and helps to normalizes the blood sugar leval after the meal. There are researches done on this, it's a fact that it helps. I think it will help a great deal with the water retention as well. It have always helped me whenever I felt bloated!!
100% raw is the best way to go!! And transition is fine as long it is progressing in the direction to be 100% raw which is what I did.. And really be willing to change the mindset as well when making a lifestyle change!!
I wish your friend the best of health on raw food!!! :) It is worth it, especially for the long run!!!
Edit Update: And walking daily at least 20 minutes and full body stretch afterward is what I find the easist to do considering that I have a history of being lazy when it comes to exercises!!! And because of walking for some time now has helped me to really gear up my exercise routine these days. :) Someone gifted me a non electric small manual threadmill to get moving to control my glucose level and it really did help a great deal to bring those numbers down ranging from 50-100 counts. In the beginininng my reading would be for an example 268 before I walked and after I walked, then my reading would be 182. This is when I was still eating some SAD food within the first two months of my raw food journey. I still walk on the threadmill, because I love the way it boost how I feel afterward like nothing can stop me from having a good day sort of a thing. I've learned that the body really is designed to move, move, and move.
I hope this helps!!!
Whoa-Raw!!! :)

MissyC ~ I find that I really do have to listen with my heart and just know. Having to leap into raw food was weird at first for me and not knowing there was such a thing as the raw food movement, Alissa Cohen, other raw food gurus, and so on. I was not in the know for quite some time till I got my own computer to do more research and stuff. Hard to believe that I didn't own a computer at the time. So from this stand point of view, getting into raw food was a really gutsy move and didn't really care what anybody had to say about it. I just knew that this was the way to go, because I did listen. :)
Thanks Missy for reminding me that God does speak to those who listen.

I did a whoa after reading your response post to my comment -- What great information -- thank you so much! I was thinking of having her take short walks during the day also as we make changes little by little, so that she can start getting used to moving around. I will show her your posts and testimony as well. She knows it is do-able for sure, but she has had such a long journey of naysayers that she feels a tad doubtful - but compared to my other skeptical friends she is approaching raw foods with such a great openness and gusto. It actually motivates ME to stay raw.
Blessings to you and continued health and success on your raw journey!

Whoa Raw,
I really enjoyed reading your story, very inspiring! I was wondering which type of diabetes did the doctors say you had - Type 1 (juvenile) or 2 (late in life onset)?
My husband is type 1, he got it in his mid 20's, and is insulin dependant. I have heard of some Type 2 patients that need insulin, but know that if they lose weight they can come off all meds. Type 1 is usually different, because their pancares doesn't make any insulin, and typically has nothing to do with their weight.
If you had type 1 and was able to come off insulin that gives so many people hope!

I really rather not say at this point,
Right now, I'm just trying to find a doctor I can trust and that he has a good attitude/open-mind about raw food, because I really do believe that having a positive mind set about my health is important and don't want a doctor who's all about the gloom and doom attitude that puts all of his/her patient on meds for life. I want a doctor who looks for healthy permanent solutions with no side effects, not quick fixes!!
I found out the same stuff you've mentioned so far.
There is book by Dr, Gabriel Cousens called, There is a Cure for Diabetes. I have it and it's very informative, good, and has a very good guideline in it.
Give green smoothies a chance and see how that goes, since it won't spike the blood sugar level. From what I've read is that greens helps to build the body back up again.

Blessing ~ Thanks! Your timing to ask about protein is funny because before I read your question. I discovered a protein chart in one of the Bragg's books which is about the Apple Cider Vinegar earlier on today. It's on page 53 if you ever interested in reading the book. To quote from the book prior to the protein chart is that you can get protein from variety of sources which is whole grains, raw nuts, seeds, beans, fruits, and vegetables. And Alissa explains about protien very well in her first book called, "Living on Live Food."

First of all thank you so much for sharing your story.
I have diabetes type 1 and I know they say more people heal from type 2 then type 1 but does not mean they cannot heal.
I read that most of these people become of insuline by eating raw.
Myself also made decision a few days ago to find against my diabetes too.
Before I have been eating and drinking everything that has come my way and my blood sugars where a lot of times out of control.
I set my mind that I need to clear my body first from all the toxic that has enter my body in the past years and will do this by a juice fast (Plan for 40 Days) after that slowly start with blending fruits, and then some solid raw food, my goal is to go of the insuline and by reading the forum it keep giving me a positive feeling to go on.
Wish you all the best and lets be healthy for the rest of our lifes.

The main key word for me for going on raw food is being extremely patient with the healing process and just keep going on raw. There's no turning back for me now, I'm stuck on raw food now!! :D
Raw food does wonders and just give it time to do the wonderful work in your body. And if we can endure SAD food this long, then the body is a wonderful durable healing machine, so imagine what it can do on raw food!!

RawAngelMom ~ Thank you!! :)
Now that I've told my story.....it's been amazing each day that I'm here and have the opportunity to tell my story. Especially now it turned 2011 yesterday!! It's been since Spring 2008 that this happened and when my raw food journey had begun. I'm at a point where I feel really strong now to where my strength physically, mentally, and emotionally is going to be stronger than it's ever have been in my whole life. Raw food really improves me every day!!! It's amazing. I'm thankful that I am here to share this story with you all!!!
I really have to be against negativity, because it's been proven in my life that if I believe in that kind of stuff, it has a way of manifesting itself in my life. So that's why learning how to be really positive and to love the self in every way is important, because love conquers all! Being open-minded to being positive all the time really keeps the door open for positive good things to come in!! And that is another story that I've learned when I was given a second chance in the hospital. I'm still learning more and more about God's love and how I can walk in God's love everyday!! God saved my life twice by giving me a second chance and for guiding me to raw food.
We are all loved, it's up to us to know it and live it. :)
Happy New Year!!! Have a Blessed 2011!!!

ABCL ~ It totally is!! And yes, always be grateful for all that God provides! Eating raw food is a beautiful way of living! Can you imagine each and every one of us growing raw food in our back yard or greenhouses!! I would like to have my own greenhouse someday so that I can grow my own food!
I will keep looking for a good doctor who is supportive and not demeaning in any way! That is what very important to me, i have a very holistic approach to my health now. I believe it's very important to be in a very positive mind set especially when visiting the doctor and after the visit too to bounce back quickly about what's been said. So no matter what, keep moving forward knowing that there is a good positive solution to everything!
I have found alot of good natural doctors online in my area, I just need one good MD that will be covered by health insurance so that I can keep up with how my blood works is doing. I will find a great doctor at some point.
Thank you for your encouragement!!

Whoa-Raw, I am so very glad to read of your success! :trampoline:
I have some questions that I ask because I also have had diabetes. I'm 29 years young, and I was diagnosed, similar to you, after going into diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) in 1996, including a coma of several hours. I am still on insulin, and my eyesight has deteriorated to a great degree over the years, and I know that I need to make a change soon to restore my health, before my eyesight degeneration goes too far.
I have not yet managed to take the step to make the transition to raw, in part because I had previously not seen any first-hand confirmation that insulin-dependent diabetes can be reversed by the lifestyle change. Your story has given me hope.
Because of that, I was hoping you could give some more information about your experience. In particular, if you might have any answers for the following questions:
1. How did you start your transition to raw?
2. What was in your diet during your recovery (whole foods, juices, water, and what sorts)?
3. Did you fast at all during your recovery?
4. How soon did you see an improvement in your blood glucose levels or insulin needs?
5. How you felt along the way?
6. What has your diet has been like since going off insulin (including but not limited to both the earliest times, and now)?
If you can give any more information that might give insight as to what the road you've traveled was like, I believe it may be encouraging for those of us who have not yet begun the trip. Thanks so very much in advance!

Hey Charles, thanks for reading.
It's still is a learning process. As my body gets more use to raw food, I still need to keep an eye on my readings, I've learned that portion wise is very important. It's a matter of what is agreeable with my body that won't make my blood sugar level stay high three to four hours later and helps my fasting glucose to stay normal in the morning.
Dedication to my health is the key for me to be successful. And tons and tons and tons of research and I find that I may never stop researching because there is always new info to improve health.
Just keep in mind that I'm not a doctor in any way. I'm not here to be giving any medical advices. Just here to share my experience. So please do your research well.
1) I monitor my bs level after each meal to see what food works and what didn't. The goal was to have the best reading after each meal. I got rid of anything that spiked my bs for too long. Right away I eliminated most of the SAD food, and replaced the ones I didn't with healthier options. For example....greasy chips replaced by blue chips.....cheese dip replaced by avocado dip and so on. Little by little, my body found that SAD was just feeling too heavy for my to digest since raw food is really easy to digest. That is how I said laters to food that wasn't raw.
2) Can't list everything.....my main recovery food was that I ate a lot of spinach salad with varieties of raw food, celery. blueberries, apples, coconut oil, avocados, ate nuts/fat before meals to prevent high spiking of bs, coconut water, and alfalfa. And each time I ate, i kept it simple for the most part. I didn't own a VitaMix or a dehydrator for the first year.
3)I didn't fast at all or juiced. The only thing is that I did do is that I stopped eating at a certain time in the evening so that I could test my reading 12 hours later in the morning to see how my fasting glucose is doing.
4)The more I eliminated SAD food from my diet the quicker my recovery and them more normal my readings became. It depends on the percentage of raw food in my diet. If i remember correctly, I think it was within 3-5 months because of certain food. Had I gone 100% raw at the time? I would have gotten normal readings within the first month judging from my experiences of improvements.
5) Along the way, I felt stronger and stronger. Even better than I felt in a long time. I wasn't even tired anymore like I used to feel.
6)I was off insulin within the first month after I got out of the hospital, because I decided at that point to be very dedicated to eating well for my health. My diet now is pretty much the same except that I get more creative. And have to keep myself in check not to get carried away with overeating because raw food is so good!! So it's best to keep an eye on portion size. Raw food or not, I think it is best not to overeat to not overtax the digestion system. And now these days I open to fasting. And became a vegan after a year and a half which I felt extremely much better!!
What worked for me is to be dedicated to monitor my readings to see what I can add/eliminate to my diet along the way.
Raw food has proven itself over and over to me that I can be diabetic free as long as I stay on this path. It's been three years now on raw food since then.
I wish you the best of healing!!

Jerusalem artichoke have natural insulin in them. They are wonderful to eat raw.
Actually, that's inulin, not insulin. They are completely different. Inulin is an indigestible polysaccharide which typically gets into the gut unaltered. Insulin, on the other hand, is a very fragile protein hormone that does NOT survive the GI tract, which is why insulin-dependent diabetics must take injections or wear an insulin pump, unless they manage to find an effective cure. Sunchokes may play a good role in such a cure, but it's not because of any 'insulin' in them.

The Raw Food Nutritionist that I just have recently seen recommended to eat Jerusalem artichoke which I have not eaten this whole time. She said it's really good to add to salad or make raw raviolis with them. She would agree with you too since she also said they are wonderful to eat raw as well.
Lately, I've been into Young Living Oils and herbs that supports the pancreas, which for my health is a better alternative. I just recently gotten a great juicer so I can drink green juice often and daily, since green veggies builds the body back up and heals the body. For me, that would be the easiest way for me to get my greens and also an easy way for me to make crackers and chips with the leftover pulp.
Herbs have also played a major factor in helping me become diabetic free in the beginning. I haven't really used herb lately. Back into them lately.
Finding a healthy balance between everything on a raw food lifestyle is important instead of swinging from one extreme to another with this lifestyle.
Be happy about eating healthy!! It's worth it!!

I'm also in raw food and reduced by insuline intake with about 90-95% so could you give me some advise what I should eat that helped you to get your target this would be a great help for me to get my final goal.

Congratulations on cutting down on your insulin and living the raw food way!
Been told by several doctors that I had three different types of diabetes (type 1, type 2. 0r type 2 1/2) with each one telling me that I had this type while the other one is telling me something different. So I got different opinions.....
Looking at my notes that I took at the beginning, my readings stabilized and improved right away once I started eating raw to where it came down to having normal readings in the morning and pretty close to normal a couple hours after meals. When I was on insulin, my blood sugar level was lingering in the 200 or 300 all the time and I didn't like how it kept crashing to 50-60 because of my intake of insulin may have been a little hair too much..... So I said no to insulin, went raw, and it went good from there.
This book is what gave me hope and a good idea of what I can eat, There is a Cure for Diabetes by Gabriel Cousens, MD. This has a lot of great information of what you can eat to cut down your insulin intake 100%.
In the beginning, I made a point of eating alot of greens for one of my meals everyday without fail. Greens is very healing for the body. Any GREENS is what I say have helped me!! And I did my research on what herbs online and herb books that I felt comfortable taking along with raw meals to heal my body with.
Wish you the best of healing!!!

I have followed your suggestion and started to eat much more greens in my meals and was able to lower it more even there are days I do not intake insuline specially when I'm running.
My target is to completly of the insuline before the end of year, I feel confident that I can do it.
