Have you ever tried blending the Nettle into a smoothie? Does that de-activate the stingers by any chance?
Thankers.

I have used it in smoothies and juices. If you use too much you can still feel something but it is not a sting.

I am now thinking that perhaps we are not meant to use them.

I juice them and like them. They are easy to get, free and full of nutritrions and you donīt have to be afraid, that they are toxic and you can recognize them easily.
I wouldnīt blend them, not because of the nettles, they will be deactivated if you blend long enough, but of the fibre.
Just sipped today a GS, stinging nettle and pineapple. Yummy!

I trust the cows on this one. They eat them when they are young but pass on the older ones.
I use the older nettles as a fertilizer in the garden (let them sit in water for a few days).

Yup, I blend them in smoothies, they lose the sting then.
As sport says, if you use a lot you can still feel it but it isn't a sting, more like a 'funny' feeling. But I'm neve bothered by this.

I might be a lil scared but try them like this because they are power packed!

I picked a huge bag earlier this Spring. Dried some at 95 degrees, air dried the bulk of them by hanging upside down in bunches of 7-8 stalks. Drying takes away the sting, though the hairs can still be prickly.
I can't answer your question about putting fresh nettles in smoothies. I didn't want to try it. :p I reconstitute the dried leaves in water and then put the infusion of tea and leaves in a smoothie.
I was told nettles are best picked when under 2 feet tall. Taller is okay, just make sure you pick them before the hanging seed clusters appear.

Hmmm... I think I'll be drying some of the abundance of nettle that's emerging in my backyard now! Can't wait for it to grow!

There are a number of youtube videos of people juicing and eating fresh nettle. Not sure if anyone makes a smoothie from them on the videos but I would say if you can eat them fresh a smoothie shouldn't be a problem. I definitely plan to juice the heck out of them once I get mine growing.

Thanks for the help guys. I do have some Nettle drying right behind me. I think I'll try some fresh in a smoothie, even if some stingage gets through it usually doesn't bug me.
By the way that Stinging Nettle Pineapple smoothie sounds super dank.

Nettle juice is supposed to be the antidote for the sting. I have not tested that information. I used horsetail when I got stung while picking.

Thatīs why I take gloves while picking.

Me, too. :p Only my gloves were too short and my jacket sleeves pulled up. I got stung 3 times on my wrists. There was horsetail growing in the same area. Rubbed the liquid from the horsetail stalk on the stings every hour for the rest of the day and the next day. Helped a lot!

I also understand that they are best picked during the month of May.

The nettles are getting over three feet here right now. Looking mature, but no seed clusters yet. We better get out there and pick NOW!!! :)
If anyone wants to read more about nettles and see some pics, here is my blog (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/blog.php?b=17130) and a thread (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=59102&highlight=nettles) about it.

So Nettles are a plant that stings your tongue when you eat it? I've only heard of nettles from "Saladfingers" which was super disturbing and not used for health purposes. Haha
