I've tried the following recipes from Alissa's book and here's my opinion(whether you want it or not :p ):

stuffed pesto mushrooms page 289 -- too salty but maybe I didn't do it right. The mushrooms didn't "cook" well for me but it was the first recipe I had ever done in the dehydrator.

avocado chutney page 291 -- very good but too spicy for me. I think I could just cut down the amount of chili powder. It also made a large quantity even with 2 of us eating it.

cream cheese page 319 -- good but a little plain for me...felt like it was missing something.

sweet potato chips page 339 -- good but weren't crunchy like I expected. I was learning with the dehydrator so it could have been me.

marinara sauce page 367 - great but I did cut back on the cayenne and I could have cut back more.

mock salmon pate page 380 - Dynamite! I took it to a party and it was snarfed up in seconds! It made a lot!! They couldn't believe it was raw!

stuffed portabella mushroom caps page 389 - too salty--maybe me.

angel hair pasta page 395 - Wow! Absolutely amazing. Who would have guessed you could eat raw squashes. I had no idea. I also used butternut and zucchini. Very pretty.

date nut torte page 483 - great! again took it to a party. Very rich.

black forest cake page 489 - well you've all heard what everyone thinks of this! Amazing! I cut it in 1/2 and it still made a ton!

fudge balls page 491 - awesome!

walnut fudge page 501 - super awesome!

chocolate mouse page 527 - great!

banana macadamia nut fudge cookies page 530-531 - pretty good.

almond milk page 535 - great! I soak vs. sprout (haven't had much luck with that) and add a frozen banana and carob & ice. Yum! I have these often for breakfast. A thick, rich chocolatey shake with a hint of banana!

Hope that helps! I'm afraid to try new recipes or certain new recipes because if it doesn't go right or tastes yucky I hate to waste! Also, no one in my family will eat hardly anything I make.

Hmmm....Let's see, (p.s. I love salt and spice, make mine hot! Kristi!) :)

Pesto stuffed mushrooms, loved them! Very rich, big recipe.

Guac-stuffed mushrooms, loved them (even though I'm not a huge guac eater)

Corn tortillas....good, I added fresh jalapeno (too much) and they were a litte too sweet, I'll use lime juice instead of orange juice next time.

Black Forest Cake---awesome awesome awesome

Blueberry Pie---awesome

Blueberry Cheesecake--wonderful, I made it w/o the crust and it was like dense pudding, very good, very filling, easy to pack for lunch.

Burger Buns--wonderful! Very complex flavors with the spices, really good.

Pizza bread---it's in the "oven" now! I think it's going to be really good!

Cabbage rollups...wonderful, hmmm...that reminds me I want to make this one again!

Mock tuna salad---wonderful! I think what I loved most about this is I grew my own sprouts for the first time, what a kick! I really liked it. Needs lots of salt.

Too many recipes, too little time!

You're right, too little time. Everything I've tried has been awesome, or at least very good. My personal favorites are "potato" salad, and the spinach dip.

Wow! The pizza bread is amazing!!! Who needs pizza when you can have this! Wonderful!!!

I found I didn't need to do the last-step processing, the dough is so thick it really doesn't work in the processor, and doesn't need it.

After 2 hours I used a spatula (2 of them) to move the breads off the teflex to the mesh, they dried very fast that way--12 hours. Again, this is a big recipe (when will I learn to make 1/2 recipes??)...it made 4 large pizza crusts (7"??) and 2 little ones.

What I love most about this recipe is there's nothing sprouted in it, so it's easy to make on a whim.

The potato salad is really really good. But...
Drum roll please.... I just made the calzone.
I am speechless. There are no words to describe this masterpiece.
This is THE best raw food recipe every created.
Enough said.

Hey, Jackie,

The potato salad is really a diced jicama salad, and it's really, really good. I like it better than real potato salad.

The choc. Cherry cake, you mean the black forest? Oh that is so good!!!
I LOVE the blueberry cheesecake, the pastry puffs and the creamy no crust fruit pie!

Ive made almost half of these recipes so far and all of them were so great!
I love that about this book. Im sure there will be one or two that i don’t love but most books have only 2- 3 recipes that are good. With this book it’s about 98%!

I had the best dinner tonight! I used Alissa's pizza bread to make a sandwich with nut cheeze on top (cashews/macs/braggs), olives and tons of kale. It was incredible!!! How can this be health food??!!

I just made the lasagna and the eggplant Parmesan this week.
These recipes do not even taste raw! Really, i took them to a party and everyone there gobbled them up.

I am really in awe of Alissa’s recipes. They are so far and beyond what I have ever known to be raw! And they are easy to make which is a huge plus as I know there are a lot of gourmet books now on raw but they are so intimidating and take hours to prepare most of their recipes. Alissa’s are so simple!
Im loving this!

How 'bout posting some of these fabulous recipes? I see all kinds of other recipes posted all over the place but not Alissa's...please post some since they get rave reviews all across the boards, it's like you are teasing us when ya don't post any! :)

The Pizza bread and Mock salmon Pate sound universally popular...I'd love to see those, give them a try and see how it is different than others... :)

Hmmm, i think people aren’t posting her recipes because her book is new and she probably doesn’t want all her recipes, like her pizza bread - special ones like that - posted up.
She does have some on her web site though like the mock salmon, pesto mushrooms, raviolis, etc... She has been really generous with giving out and posting recipes but im sure she doesn’t want everyone on the forum posting a few recipes each from her book as then no one will by it! Although, i liked it for the whole first half of the book, regardless of the recipes...

Oh. Okay...thanks...Just was curious 'cause I see many other people's recipes on here....I guess I am different...If I saw recipes that I liked and were different than others I use or have seen, that would motivate me to buy the book :)

mmmmm made the corn tortillas yesterday *yummy*. At the moment I have carrot pecan burgers dehydrating and the burger buns are almost ready. I split the burger recipe in half so I made 4 buns and 1 pizza. The pizza is for tomorrow. This is SO great and it tastes soooo goooooooood! :D

I've been scarfing down the almond butter balls! I rolled them in coconut so they weren't so sticky and wow, they're good! I have my first batch of banana flax crackers in the dehydrator and they smell like banana bread. Can't wait to try one this afternoon!

Reading this thread is making me salivate!! I'm scribbling down all of your ideas so I can go home and start cookin'! This board is such a comfort to me. Even though I don't post often, I read the board every day. Living raw wouldn't be nearly as fun without it. By the way, my favorite recipe from Alissa's book has got to be the raw ravioli!! :)

I've heard of Norwood Young America, but didn't have a clue where it was. I would love to meet for a meal at Ecopolitan!! I haven't been there yet, but I discovered it online and have been wanting to go. Have you been there? Why don't you go ahead and email me directly and we can set something up! :)

I just made the Date Nut Torte for the first time since having Alissa's book. In my mind I was thinking, "Anhhh, you tasted one nut-based dessert you've tasted them all" and so I avoided making it. But my husband after dinner still wanted something else to eat (he was feeling "snacky") so I decided to whip up a torte for the two of us (cut the recipe down because I didn't want to make too much and end up not liking it or something).

I LOVED it and so did he!

Our home is in Minnesota (Cass Lake, near Bemidji), but I currently live in Mongolia. :) I ate at Ecopolitan this summer. Got in to Mnpls and only had about an hour before they closed, and my plane left early in the morning, so I called from the airport and asked if they would stay open for me. They did! It was great!!

My favorite recipes from Alissa's book (so as not to hijack the thread totally) are:

Lemon Pudding p.518

Pecan Pie p. 501

Fudge Balls p. 491

Date Nut Torte p. 483

Granola p. 444 (though grains seems to give me indigestion)

Mock Salmon Pate p. 380

Fettucine Alfredo p. 381

Miso Soup p. 361

Veggie Flax Crackers p. 346

Cheesy Chips p. 340

Burger Buns p. 330

Swiss Cheese p. 321

I couldn't eat the Broccomole, but I'm not crazy about raw broccoli.

Just wanted to say i have tried the spanish rice that Helen suggested and was really surprised at how good it was--i made less but at the whole bowl and can't wait to make it again! Also i made a rawguru recipe he has on his site (Allissa's book should be in my mail any day now) and i tried his apple cobbler with an adapted version of cinnamon ice cream and WOWSERS i was really impressed once again. This really isn't going to be too hard when there are substitutions out there like these! And of course just made the Boutenkos's walnut cake tonight and we all ate it and liked it! So that is my update. Can't wait to try some of Allissa's though! Anyone know of a substitute to a raw peanut thai sauce??

Oh, after reading Vegbaby's recipe review i realized i had tried the date nut torte and that really satisfied my sweet tooth!! Yumm!! I had to laugh when i read Rawkin's review there as i feel that way sometimes--how can another nut 'thing' taste any different, but they can and do!! Love the fudgy texture! :p

I made coleslaw tonight out of cabbage, carrots, broccoli, and beets and used Alissa's Caesar Salad Dressing on it. Everyone thought it was great! In her book she says, "This is the BEST dressing I've ever tasted, raw or cooked!" You have to try it! :p

I made the smooth and creamy avocado salad dressing over the weekend... and all my non-raw friends couldn't get enough of it! It's sooo fast and easy to prepare raw food!! Wow!!! This could be one of my absolute favorites!!! Alissa's "Broccoli Soup." It is so much like Cream of Broccoli! It is thick, rich and creamy. Warmed in the dehydrator it's incredible!!! I'm in LOVE with this soup!!! I'll eat it all winter long.
