View Full Version : Antibiotics
Thankfully I am in a much better mental state today so I can write this without breaking down.
Yesterday I was admitted to the hospital with a huge abscess/boil on my upper inner thigh. They had to open and drain the wound (which had grown alarmingly fast in only 4 days time) and they put me on IV antibiotics and sent me home with two antibiotics and a pain killer.
At first I tried to heal the boil using natural remedies but it didn't work and unfortunately I have to be on antibiotics now. I am waiting to hear back regarding the results of the culture they took. I am praying it is not MRSA because I have heard that it can come back over and over again. I would hate to be on antibiotics for the rest of my life. For some reason I am under the impression that antibiotics will completely wreak havoc in ones system. I am wondering what steps to take to build back all of the "good stuff" in my system when these pills are done? I have been told to eat yogurt, which (obviously) isn't raw and I am trying my hardest to transition to at least 80% raw.
Also, I am fairly new here so I just hope this is the best place to post this!

Start taking probiotics now. I take them everyday. 80% of your immune system is in your gut. Makes sense to populate it with good bugs. The probiotics will replace the ones that the antibiotics kill. I've got my fingers crossed that your bug is easy to kill.:)

Ruca,
My heart is with you.
I had to start antibiotics yesterday. I have not taken them in many years, but I have a root canal tooth that is blowing up and have to go back to the endodontist Monday.
My condition is nowhere near as severe as yours, but I could not stand the pain any longer and I have to deliver a lecture on Sunday.
I am thinking Green Juice Fast as soon as the prescription is done with.
Start taking probiotics now.
Snoops, any suggestions as to brand, etc.?
Thanks!

I take New Roots Herbal. My boss (and chiropractor) sells them. It may be a Canadian company though. Not sure if you can get it down there!!
This happened to me a couple months ago when I had to be on antibiotics. This is how my MD told me to take antibioticss with probiotics.
Space them evenly apart. So - let's say you take an antib. every twelve hours at 6am and 6pm. Midway inbetween - take the probiotics, here it would be at 12 noon and 12 am midnight.
Then continue taking the probiotics for 3 days after you've finished with the antibiotics.
I took what I had on hand and that was Dr. Ohhira's (http://www.iherb.com/Dr-Ohhira-s-Essential-Formulas-Inc-Probiotics-12-PLUS-Original-Formula-60-Capsules/3620?at=0). I'm not recommending them specifically - I had them on hand (I use them in making sauerkraut!), so those are what I used.
Also - I have no idea if different antibiotics affect how you take the probiotics or not. I was on an antibiotic for a bladder infection, I took it for 5 days. Hope this helps! *Ü*
I just wanted to stop back in and say thank you to everyone for your kind words and advice! This has been a terrifying time for me, I felt completely alone but it's great to know that there are people out there : ) so thank you, and I will also give a short update as I had my follow-up today. I have a feeling this will be a novel...
Only two days ago I was in the greatest dispair and pain that I have felt so far in my life. The pain was something I cannot describe. There were so many levels to the pain. I felt so broken inside. I remember just sobbing in my shower, wondering if this infection would end my life.
The Dr. was very friendly and said that my abscess is healing and coming along nicely so far. He unpacked the gauze and put some more packing inside. He bandaged it up and prescribed me more vicodin in case I needed it. I have been trying not to use the vicodin because it makes me very slow! It's embarrassing at work when people have to repeat simple questions, but the painkiller allows me to concentrate on something other than the pain, even if I am a little hazy.
I was dreading the results of the culture they took. I have been reading some MRSA stories on the internet the last couple days. Maybe I shouldn't because some people have gone through hell and back. I now realize that it could have been a lot worse for me. I am so happy and grateful because my episode was mild compared to some others. There is so much more to be grateful for! I am breathing, I can see, I can hear, and I can walk (err, limp) but I believe the body can heal itself 100% of the time! I've cured myself of severe ear infections, strep throat and what I believe was the swine flu last year! As for the culture results? Inconclusive. I'd rather not know anyway, I think. I believe with a raw diet, disease will not be able to live in my body whatsoever!
I bought some probiotics from trader joe's today, any advice on where to keep them? They say keep in a cool and dark place on the bottle, would the fridge work? I'm in Los Angeles so my apartment doesn't stay very cool unless I'm home with the air on...
Cheers!

Zappers work GREAT for bacteria, viruses and infections. I started using one a year ago because I had reoccuring UTI's. Haven't had one since. I also have a problem tooth that hasn't flared up since I started using my zapper.
Definitely check it out.
Here's the creators site and he sells different models, they're expensive but worth it if you're prone to reoccuring problems(a lot cheaper than pills or dr. visits). All the information is there about what it is and what it does.

Here's a Terminator Zapper that's a little cheaper on this site(it's the same thing, just lower price)

Here's the WAY cheaper, basic model that also does the job.

I would look into massive fermented food doses. Replenish the gut with good flora. Probiotics are great (new chapter brand) but fermented is even better.
If I ever have any symptom I dont look on the internet or a medical book. It is designed to create fear. Dont go there.
Lean into wellness. Say "I am well" over and over.
You can do this and get back to good belly again!
