Greetings and Hello!

My name is Rebecca and I'm a soon-to-be raw foodie. But I need some help! So I decided to join up here and get some :)

Ever since my teenage years (I am currently 28) I've been sick. Felt sick, had bloodwork that is "off" on sickness type indicators, or been seriously fatigued, depressed, or just generally icky, all the time. I've recently discovered I likely have chronic fatigue syndrome and/or fibromylgia. I used to think these were "toss away" diagnosis, things doctors told you that you have when they can't figure out what is "really" wrong with you. But thanks to some super enlightening research I've been doing, I now consider them 100% valid diagnosis, and, lucky for me!, my research has also led me to believe they can be treated if not cured. My biggest problem with them before was I felt like they were a label to use when you couldn't be properly treated/cured, and that freaked me out! Now, I'm not as freaked out ;)

I'm working on the fatigue and icky feelings with supplements and a trip to the doctor soon, but, I realized that not only do I need to change my attitude about why I'm sick, but what might be making me sick. And that led me to food.

My entire life I've noticed certain cooked foods kill my tummy. The truth is, certain raw foods hurt my stomach too, but, I'm thinking that is partially because my body is so not used to them. Thanks so much for having the detox info here! I came to realize some of the discomfort I feel eating raw foods is because my poor digestive system rarely sees them, and it's having discomfort as it gets used to them! I'm definitely motivated now to get over the hump (and maybe make things a bit easier by doing lots of smoothies first). I truly believe that taking out the toxins from my diet will be a major turning point in my body healing from the cycle of chronic fatigue and poisoning I do by ingesting so many bad-for-you foods.

The only major problem is, I kind of am afraid of veggies! Not only because I've had the stomach pain the past, but, I've found so few I like the taste of. I'm hoping that is a result of being so accustomed to cooked foods, and my tastes may change. Otherwise I might be having a very boring un-variety filled meal plan coming up ;)

Tomorrow my spiffy new blender arrives, and I'm hoping by this weekend to be moving into mostly raw diet. I intend to visit a local farmer's market on Saturday to pick up some supplies and get started! I have some raw food diet books lined up to pick recipes from and can't wait to get going on this next step in healing my body and improving my life!

Welcome!

You will be amazed at the energy fruits and veggies will give you, don't be afraid of them.. lol... you bite them, they will not bite you!!! :p You'll be surprised how MUCH your tastes will change once you are raw, I eat things I never dreamed I would even touch! Once your new taste buds grow and you are eating more and more raw you will crave veggies over sad food! It can take time I've been at this 3 years and finally have gotten my head on straight and realize how much I love raw rather than my cravings for sad..

I did read an article on helping "treat" fibromyalgia with certain yoga postures, you could check out yoga journal online, it was only a month or so ago that article came out ...I think...

All in all raw will do wonders for you!

~best of luck, this is a great community!

Thank you all for the supportive replies! I'm very excited about starting this new path in life and just thinking about all the colorful, fresh things I am going to eat makes me happy!

I decided to take the plunge today and go shopping, without a list! I figured, hey, what can I do wrong? Just go to the produce section and go nuts! So I did!

Serawnity - Thanks for the suggestion on looking up yoga postures - that sounds right up my alley (Love yoga, have horribly achy pain, especially my back, that could probably be aided by some yoga!) and I'm definitely going to Google! And thanks for the supportive comment about tastes changing. I am a bit worried about that since I find my current veggie tastes pretty limited. I'm hoping my horizons broaden though and it sounds like they will. Yay!

Do not be afraid. Just eat what you like and what your body likes.

I am a lover of veggies, my wife on the other hand couldn't stand them. Which is why I was curious when she decided to go raw with me. At first she only ate the few veggies she liked, but then her body changed. She began eating veggies that she had previously hated and she found that she liked them, a lot.

I don't know why... but it seems your body augments your taste buds after you move away from SAD.

Who knows... in a week you may be gobbling up veggies like they are going out of style! :)
