Greetings and Hello!
My name is Rebecca and I'm a soon-to-be raw foodie. But I need some help! So I decided to join up here and get some :)
Ever since my teenage years (I am currently 28) I've been sick. Felt sick, had bloodwork that is "off" on sickness type indicators, or been seriously fatigued, depressed, or just generally icky, all the time. I've recently discovered I likely have chronic fatigue syndrome and/or fibromylgia. I used to think these were "toss away" diagnosis, things doctors told you that you have when they can't figure out what is "really" wrong with you. But thanks to some super enlightening research I've been doing, I now consider them 100% valid diagnosis, and, lucky for me!, my research has also led me to believe they can be treated if not cured. My biggest problem with them before was I felt like they were a label to use when you couldn't be properly treated/cured, and that freaked me out! Now, I'm not as freaked out ;)
I'm working on the fatigue and icky feelings with supplements and a trip to the doctor soon, but, I realized that not only do I need to change my attitude about why I'm sick, but what might be making me sick. And that led me to food.
My entire life I've noticed certain cooked foods kill my tummy. The truth is, certain raw foods hurt my stomach too, but, I'm thinking that is partially because my body is so not used to them. Thanks so much for having the detox info here! I came to realize some of the discomfort I feel eating raw foods is because my poor digestive system rarely sees them, and it's having discomfort as it gets used to them! I'm definitely motivated now to get over the hump (and maybe make things a bit easier by doing lots of smoothies first). I truly believe that taking out the toxins from my diet will be a major turning point in my body healing from the cycle of chronic fatigue and poisoning I do by ingesting so many bad-for-you foods.
The only major problem is, I kind of am afraid of veggies! Not only because I've had the stomach pain the past, but, I've found so few I like the taste of. I'm hoping that is a result of being so accustomed to cooked foods, and my tastes may change. Otherwise I might be having a very boring un-variety filled meal plan coming up ;)
Tomorrow my spiffy new blender arrives, and I'm hoping by this weekend to be moving into mostly raw diet. I intend to visit a local farmer's market on Saturday to pick up some supplies and get started! I have some raw food diet books lined up to pick recipes from and can't wait to get going on this next step in healing my body and improving my life!
