Hi- My name's Jilly, I'm 27 and have been flirting with the Raw Food's lifestyle for about 2 years now. I have loads of books and done tons of research and have recently found this forum :)
I find cooked food seriously addictive and struggle to give it up for more than a few days. I'm not sure whether to go cold-'turkey' or try a gradual transition. My concern with a gradual transition is that it is so easy to revert to a cooked foody :/
I was really looking for a buddy who would like to email/message and show support to each other on the raw foody path, either someone early on in their journey, or someone experienced who would like to show me the way!!
Thanks everyone :)
Jilly

Hey Jilly welcome! I am on week 4.
My own personal experience has been that by week two, your body doesn't have those cravings anymore. Not to say you NEVER do. Sometimes I do smell freshly baked bread and dream... but it's not really that big of a pull.
One thing that helps me is I think of all processed food as POISON. Like sure, that Mcdonalds burger may taste good, but would you eat it if it had rat poison on it? No... if you think of SAD food as just crap that will kill you, it will probably help you stay on track. :)
hope that helps.

Welcome Jilly! I'm very new in my raw food life too. Less than a week even! I'm still trying to really get jump started, and am hoping to do a detox/go 100% raw for a while to heal my body, though I am not really prepared to start that right now. I'm hoping in a week or two at most. I'm waiting till I finish up some of my cooked foods I still have stocked (nothing horrible for me, I just can't stand to waste food/money!) and get my copy of Alissa's book which has a meal plan in it! Yay! I've started off by at least eliminating cooked foods as my breakfast and dinner and snack - now I'm doing green smoothie breakfasts (so filling!), have a tiny cooked food lunch (organic soups and such that I stocked up on right before I found raw food diet and decided it was the thing for me) if I'm even hungry for lunch, and a big salad for dinner. I am totally feeling better already - but really want to kick things up, stop all the cooked foods for at least 3-6 months, and start consuming a better variety of fruits/veggies and expand my raw food horizons!
If you ever want to drop me a line/email/PM please feel free! And you'll find lots of great advice/support here. I know I have!
Welcome!

Hey Jilly, welcome!
Hm. I'm a fan of gradual changes, since they seem to be the ones that are permanent (at least for me), but everyone is different. Maybe you could try jumping right into a full detox diet for a week? It will definitely help take care of all your cravings, although it will be a challenge.
I've been increasingly raw since the beginning of the year, but it's an idea I've moved closer and closer to ever since I was little. I'm still learning, but I've also discovered a lot of helpful tips and recipes and such that I'm eager to share if you ever want to send me a message. :)
