HI all, my very first post here! I am about 80-90% (aiming to be 100%) raw. I celebrated my 2 week anniversary this friday. I love it. I feel amazing. I am mostly vegan, but once a week or so i will eat some raw fish, (small portion).
I would like to lose some weight as well as increase my health, as Im sure many do here as well. I noticed that initally, I was losing pretty easily and didn't keep strict records of my cals. The past few days i have been gaining (about .2lbs) each day. I overall am down a few lbs, but i hate seeing the scale creep up, as perhaps im doing something wrong. I put my food from yesterday into sparkpeople and came up with apx 1700 cals for yesterday. I did eat quite a bit of avocado, and my fat was about 30% of total calories. I am wondering if i should aim to keep the fat a little lower?
The reason i love raw is for the most part, i dont need to crunch too many numbers and for its ease. I am living with family, and don't have much access to a kitchen. So, i am frequently forced to eat out. I generally have 1-2 smoothies / day, salad/guacamole, a few dates, some fresh/ dried fruit, gazpacho, and found some yummy raw food bars. (and some honey). Thats basically it.
Also - about a week ago i broke out very badly!! I am slowly clearing up now. I am doing a raw honey mask and its helping my skin clear up greatly.
Thanks for any advice!

hey,
Just because you don't have a fridge doesn't mean you need to eat out!
*buy some fruit and keep it in your room (pretty much all fruits will last two days on your dresser and are easy to cut up with just a knife and plate), buy some snackable veggies too (think celery, carrots, brocoli).
Buy a small amount that you can replenish every other day.
*Cut out the raw food bars. They are high in calories but low in benifits. Dates are good and all, but think FRUIT, think GREENS.
*Exercise. I have found this very important. Even though I'm eating all raw, I still need to get my blood flowing, not to mention, you just started eating raw and I'm sure there's some toxins that want out of your body.
*Lastly, I have found, FOR ME, the only way to go is 100% RAW or I'll end up eating too many cooked things, or my body won't fully adjust, or I just won't feel 100% great.
Good luck!

Thanks !! I should have mentioned - I do have a (mini) fridge in my room (thank gosh). I did much better today. I did some research - and decided to lower my fat. I am done today and decided to track on sparkpeople just until i get into a good rhythm, as i hate logging in my foods. I had less cals, less (15%) fat.
I appreciate your tips. Actually - i think thanks to eating raw - i am able to stay sane in my new living arrangements! I keep fruits in my cooler bag with me at all times. Tonight, for dessert, i had a frozen banana w/ honey drizzled on top. WOW it is so good. So simple too.
I am going to try to eat out at organic places, i know theres a organic salad bar at my local Mrs. Greens. Thanks :)

Lower fat is the way to go in the long run but I think that in the short run it is just better to stay all raw and it makes it easier to achieve that if you just eat what you fancy.
30% fat is quite an achievement for a beginner as I have read that the average fat intake for most raw fooders is nearer to 60%.

some great advice as well as insight above. slow steady weight loss is a guarantee if your body is carrying excess.

HI all - thank you so much for your support.
Thought I would post some updates, as I believe im getting close to my 30 day rawversary (lol, made that up).
After I dropped my fat to 10%, i had a horrible detox!! I broke out (still clearing up, plus it was around my TOM). But, i got sick for 1-2 days, in bed, w/ the flu and a fever and aches. Ugh- horrible!!
But-- once that passed, it was amazing! (that was my 2nd detox, first was from caffeine which was about 3-4 days of headaches).
And, i lost a few extra lbs, (I was doing a parasite cleanse w/ papaya seeds as well). So, i am now at around 135 (i was struggling for a long time to get below 140's). I am so happy. Everyone around me notices my glow,, and my husband thinks its amazing. He is about 50-60% raw, which is AMAZING considering his prior diet was fast food and candybars!!! LOL.
Thanks so much for these forums and support. I can't wait to post my before/after story/pics.
I thought it would be so hard, but ive been at 90-100% (depending on the day,) raw for over 3 weeks now.
Aside from minor achenes i get on occasion, i feel awesome!!! Like i could run a marathon each day!!!!!!!!! :D:);)
