Hey everyone. Quick question!

So I have been about 95% raw since I started my journey into raw life 3 weeks ago. Mainly to be healthy, but I also wanted to lose weight.

The first week went marvelously. I lost almost 20lbs in one week. So marvelously in fact that I quickly googled "can I lose weight too fast on raw food".

But then it just stopped. I am now almost completely through week 4 and my weight has been stagnant. I am guessing my body may be adjusting or something, but I am not sure. I haven't really added anything "new" to my diet since week 1 that I can point to and be like "oh yeah... dummy". If anything, I am even more raw now.

Any insights? Thanks!

Stats (if it helps) 6' 4" 290lbs (currently)

hi,
i found when i first started i felt i didn't lose weight until the last week, however i did notice that my clothes were getting loose. By month two (as i was so happy with raw i decided to carry on), i did start losing weight and people started noticing. Everybody is different i think. Just carry on with what you are doing, you will notice the benefits.

It's interesting to note the difference in mental timeframes between those who have been living the lifestyle for an extended period of time and those who have just started.

Nothing's happened in WEEKS, what's wrong!!!!!

Lol, weeks...

This is a tiny span of time when compared to the years previous when you didn't eat like this.

Try to take your mind away from the paradigm of 'ailment - pill - ailment immediately gone' way of living we are so used to in our society. This paradigm is an untruth, we are always masking the symptoms with this method rather than getting to the root cause of the problem.

We have evolved a society where we dismiss anything if the effects are not immediate. This is to our detriment as solid, permanent change most often occurs over time.

It appears that for many, a period of rapid weight loss upon starting raw is common, followed by a plateau, as the body 'regroups' then a steady decrease in weight after the plateau. It seems to be the norm rather than the exception, so you'll most likely start experiencing the weight loss again after this plateau.

Thanks for all the posts and the comment on my pic.

I'm not looking for instant results. If it was a steady 1lb a week, no flags would go off for me. My concern was the really rapid 20lbs in the first week followed by nothing for 3 weeks.

If this is normal, GREAT! I'm fine with that. I just didn't know. :)

Thanks again for all of your responses.

Losing a lot of weight in the beginning seems pretty customary when people make a big switch into raw food. Depending on how drastic of a diet change it was for you, a lot of it could be from detoxifying your body, and erm.. cleansing your intestines of all that cooked food. :o

At any rate, I was mostly answering because you said you haven't introduced anything new in the past few weeks, and it's important that you vary your day to day (and week to week) choice of produce, otherwise it's very easy to develop pesky food allergies.

Happy eating. =]

I am certainly introducing more produce to my diet. I meant like something obvious like "I do enjoy my raw broccoli COVER IN CHEESE SAUCE" lol.

I have lost 2lbs since I posted this, so I guess everything is working again. :)

**note: I don't use cheese sauce.
