I can't remember if it was on the forum here or not...there was a post with a card that you give to waitstaff outlining foods that one eats to make it easier to have a raw dish.
Does anyone have that info? I just remember it was written very well, nice and concise.

Thanks!

Hi Secret Heart,

I don't have the info at my finger tips (loaned my books out), but Victoria Boutenko designed a card and it's in one of her books, I think 12 Steps to Raw Foods. I do recall, though, that someone did post it on one of the threads. Hopefully someone will know where that link is or can re-print what the card says.

It was very simple, it said something like this:

Dear Chef, I eat only fresh raw foods, please use your creative genius to make me a plate of any of the following, and thank you for your effort:

lettuce
parsley
romaine
cilantro
onion
carrot
tomato
mushroom
red pepper
strawberry
raspberry
cantaloup
grapefruit
pineapple
orange
lemon

it was something like this printed in a business card size.

I had mine laminated and carried it around for years, but I've seen others who just had several printed up and gave them to the wait person.

You can print on both sides if you like, and of course add anything that you think they might have on hand that is raw. All restaurants are different.

Hope this helps.

I had made one up before with veggies listed on one side and fruits on the other.

Victoria had also suggested that you tip the chef. She says when she goes back she gets very good service.

Thanks rawpriestess for finding that info again :)

Actually Helen, I just made it up from what I could remember anyway.

YES, tipping the chef is a good thing, especially if you do it WHEN you give them the card.

And veggies on one side, then put (OVER) at the bottom, and fruits on the other is a good idea too.

I got the most gorgeous huge platter of veggies and fruits from a Mexican restaurant, and they only charged me $2.00, then I went to a really nice American restaurant, who charged me $14 for 2 slices of apple, one piece of lemon and a wilty looking ice burg lettuce thingy, with one slice of tomatoe one it, go figure. LOL

This was probably one of those rare experiences, but the one and only time I used that card, the girl brought me back a salad covered with thread sized cheese (impossible to remove) and croutons. It was then that I had to edit my card that said ~ no cheese or croutons please ~ . But I still haven't used it since. Probably have to give it more time, though, since I already had one screw up, the chances of another would be slim (Garp's law).

That is such a good idea.
I went out to eat last night and had to add stuff to my salad. She had no idea what raw things were at the restaurant.
I'm not good and improvising yet, and did not think to look the menu over very carefully, but still I had a great salad that really filled me up!

Thanks for the great idea!

What an awesome idea! Our eating out is so much more limited now, which is good, but if and when I do eat out I think I will make one of these up!
