Hello. Hope everyone is having a good week!

I have been wanting to make some smoothies, as many juicing recipes leave out all the good fiber. Also I dont own a juicer. haha. But many of the smoothie recipes call for mango which I am highly allergic to. Its like hydrochloric acid in my mouth. It leaves an acid burn on my tongue, gums and all over the roof of my mouth for up to 5 days. Even drinking water would hurt with that burn. Some people just can't process its protein well and I got to be in that club.

So to avoid this, what fruits would you recommend to mix with romaine lettuce, chard, spinach and kale? Ive thought of peaches since they're coming in season next month in my area! :) Any other thoughts and tips? The more the merrier!

Also, is watermelon good to add to a smoothie? Watermelon season is just around the corner and I cant stop drooling when I think about it! :D

Thanks for your input.

If you are up to savory smoothies then try the fruits many consider veggies. A fruit is actually defined by the fact that it has seeds in it. Avocado, cucumber, red bellpepper, zucchini, tomato, etc. These all make fantastic additions to savory green smoothies. Does papaya have the same effect on your mouth? Not quite the same flavor but close in texture.

Green smoothies are incredibly forgiving and lend themselves really well to experimentation. The fruit you add is pretty much limited only by your imagination, unless you have an allergy and then just avoid what you are allergic to.

I don't think I could bring myself to put watermelon in a GS! It tastes so wonderful on it's own I wouldn't want to adulterate it, lol. Besides, I do my best to combine my foods in ways that are easier to digest and that means eating melons alone or leaving them alone.

So no cashews for you either then, right? I have a friend with severe poison ivy allergy and the same oil that is in poison ivy is also in mangos and cashews. Sorry to hear that. I use mostly frozen strawberries with apples and bananas in mine. And of course lots and lots of greens. Mangos are not necessary, I rarely have them.
