Hi fellow Australians.

We have a relatively new restaurant in Fitzroy Melbourne called Yong Green Food.

While not a raw restaurant, the menu has a dedicated raw food section and there's an abundance of fresh juices and smoothies. The highlights of the raw menu include nachos and the rawsagne, as well as the lovely cheesecakes in blueberry, chocolate and green tea. All the food is organic where possible.

The place is run by two lovely sisters, one who is a raw foodist herself and the popularity of this place is growing so much it's getting hard to find a table!

So if you are looking for raw food in Melbourne, this is the social hub for raw foodies!

Wow Klomasius. How did I miss this??????????????????????????????????????

I was searching through your old posts, because I remember you posting about a typical day's diet somewhere and it seemed so balanced.

When do you eat your salad usually? During the day or the evening? They usually take so long to make and eat...so the problem is finding the time...

I will definitely have to check this place out!

Hey QB, how ya doin???

I usually eat a big salad at lunchtime and then a big salad at dinner. I'm always in a rush so I make my salads really quickly. Lots of greens sprinkled with things like avocado, tomato, capsicum, sprouts (esp mungbeans, they are so substantial), cucumber, celery, etc. Time to prepare, ten minutes max.

That and lots of fruit between salads, and possibly some seeds or nuts or other raw snacks. Green smoothies too, not every day as I'd like but oh well, and green juices along with either veg or fruit.

Yong's is ace by the way, you REALLY have to try it! :D

klom...thanks so much...i can't wait to try out their menu... it's brilliant news.

thanks for the info on your diet. i made a shortbread shake the other night (soaked almonds, water, medjool dates, honey {sorry}, cinnamon, lucuma, bananas - in blender - i also make a chocolate and vanilla version). yeah, i am aiming to have a salad at lunchtime though, sometimes in the evening as well. i'm impressed you manage to fit in 2 a day.

I feel best when I have lots of greens, and salads just come natural to me!

The shake sounds nice! I'd simple add more dates. I can drink a huge shake, yum. :)

You must go to Yongs, it's fab! My favourite dishes are the sushi and the nutty burger.

Thanks for the tip re: restaraunt in Melbourne. I'll make a note for next time I'm visiting (not often but may come up some time in future) :)

PrincessRaw, where are you from?

Do you have social groups in your area?

No groups. I'm in Geelong. Originally a Melbourne girl (grew up in Bayswater, and later in my 30s lived in Chelsea for 7 years - loved it there, the beach was divine) :)

I can't believe I took so long to go to Yong Green Food. Well I actually did go when you first mentioned it Klomasius, but it was closed when I went. Yesterday I went there. At around 5pm (after work and before a lecture) I ordered to take-away, the cashew bread sandwich, and a slice of the strawberry cheesecake, which I wanted for tomorrow (today), so it's in the fridge at home. I checked out the menu and was so excited to see the mix of cooked and raw food. That meant my boyfriend could come and eat with me. He is a vegetarian, but not into raw food. Plus he likes fake meat, which I despise. When I got home after the lecture, he hadn't eaten so I told him about YGF. So we went there and I had the most amazing raw nachos and raw blueberry cheesecake. I remember the chef from Le Cru in Albert Park (which has since closed down) said she didn't like YGF's cakes, so I wasn't very hopeful. But I thought it was amazing. I could taste the agave (I thought it was honey, but now I remember it said agave on the menu [which I've never tasted]) and the coconut and the blueberries. I gave the meal 1000 out of 10.

But in stark contrast was my boyfriend's experience. He absolutely hated his meal. His main basically looked like a salad with very small slices of soy beef - that resembled cat's tongues - on it. And he hated his entree. He didn't think they were proper chefs. But maybe they are more suited to raw uncooking, because the raw food was divine. So unfortunately it doesn't look to be too promising for us eating together there in the future.

Hey'all,

I love Yongs green food and whilst we are sharing thought that I would divulge the best organic raw home delivery service. They have heaps of raw food products, but for me the most important thing is there fruit and vegetables, the quality is outstanding, super fresh and amazing flavour. I believe that most of the produce is local too..

I am really excited to visit Yong Green Food when I go to Melbourne in a couple of weeks. Does anyone have any other recommendations for great cafes or restaurants with raw food options on the menu?
