I take a number of vitamins that I buy from a friend who sells Shaklee (not trying to promote a specific brand here). When I release the toxins and extra weight my body is hanging on to for dear life, will I still need all these vitamins? Won't I get what I need from a raw diet?

... will I still need all these vitamins?

If you're eating raw now, you don't need them now.

Won't I get what I need from a raw diet?

If it's varied enough.

If they're not organic, whole food vitamins, they're practically useless anyhow.

I used to take a butt load of suppliments. I just don't feel that I need them. However, I still do take msm and vit d3.

The only vitamins, which are a slightly bit difficult are the B-vitamins.

If you go sometimes into the sun you get vitamin D and like the ones before me wrote, anything else with rawfood.

BTW, forget about the cr*p chemical stuff, it is not helpfull, does not live and is not as absorbable as living foods.

I am very familiar with shaklee so I know what high quality vitamins they are. I no longer take them because they are too expensive for me. I also have stopped taking most supplements since going. raw.

I don't think it will hurt you to keep taking them while you transition to being raw and healthy. It can take quite some time for your body to detox. I do think that if we are eating a varied raw diet we will get most of what we need. My doc, who is very very smart about all things alternative, thinks that it is necessary to be taking d3, b12 and oils. I'll have to look up the oils and explain a bit more why if I have time later.

I do prefer raw vitamins and if you get them on sale you may be able to get them for the same price as shaklee. I do wonder with all the toxins in us, all the toxins in our envioronment and our food (even organic cannot avoid all toxins) if we will ever be able to get all of our nutrients from food unless we are eating an enormous amount of food. Add in the digestive problems that many of us have coming to raw food that makes it harder for us to absorb nutrients. Well, I don't think supplementing can hurt. You will eventually be able to listen to what your body needs to eat and maybe ditch the supplements or just add some in every few days to fill in the gaps. Actually, that got me thinking. I can't afford raw vitamins but, if I get them then maybe I can take them a couple of times a week.

Thanks for the replies. I was so unhealthy that taking the vitamins perked me up immensely. I am also on a boatload of medication for hypertension and potassium deficiency. Although I would love to chuck out all the pills I take each day, it's too soon. I have only just begun eating raw.

My goal is to get off my medications completely. However, the vitamins might stay a part of my regimen - particularly the probiotic. I'm just not at a point where I can consider changing anything but my diet.

I was hospitalized a few months ago with heart-attack-like symptoms (wake-up call!). My potassium was incredibly low, so they pumped me back up with potassium again. Luckily, EKG and heart ultrasound all looked normal - no heart damage yet from my high blood pressure. I still have a chance to get better with no lasting damage!

I am going for it! :)
