Should I run it for awhile before dehydrating anything? It sure smells of plastic! (It's the 9-tray Excalibur).

Mine was like that too and that's exactly what I did.

Hi ~ I don't remember mine having a plastic smell - but sure, why not go ahead and run it. Let it off gas for a while... can't hurt. *Ü*

Run it outside or in the garage ~ wherever you're not going to be. Off-gassing is not the best thing...

Just called Excalibur. The man said to:

Put the dehydrator in a warm room for one week! (Can't use it for a week??)

Put the plastic sheet/liners in a warm room for one month! (Can't use them for one month?) He said I could try giving them a hot bath.

Yikes! Now I'm spooked about the out gassing. Will this get into the food? Not a good way to start out. Need some hand holding! (LOL!)

Well, I'd try giving the sheets a warm soapy bath. There's no way I waited for a week let alone a month before I used my Excalibur.

I like Revvell's suggestion of putting it in the garage and letting it go. I was thinking maybe overnight. Then see how it smells in the morning..

Personally, yes - I'd hold off using it until doing the above and seeing how it all comes out. (but for a week? - sheewiz!)
