Hello from Chicagoland.
I've been lurking on and off here for years ever since I learned about the raw food diet five years ago. I've tried going raw as temporary measures, but I have a lot of food addictions and it always pulled me back to SAD. I've spent the last few years increasing my knowledge of being raw and collecting the "equipment", most recently a dehydrator we got four days ago (finally!)
I have been raw for two straight weeks now, some health problems finally scared me enough to realize I needed to do it and this time has been the easiest by far (mentally at least). I think my head was finally ready to make the leap. I have this new sense of strength of mind and the power to say no to foods I love that I have NEVER had before. It really helps to tell myself that whatever food is tempting me will still be around tomorrow should I decide to eat it later, makes the urgency of wanting food easier to bear.
I'm a homeschooling mom so I feel like I can really invest the time in caring for myself and my family right now. I have a husband who loves eating healthy, I have two boys, stepbrothers aged 11 and 10 and their 8 month old baby sister. I'm loving my new dehydrator, I feel like it makes eating much easier, I'm working now on stocking up on snacks for the family.
Being raw these last two weeks has been amazing for my mental clarity and energy. I feel like I can accomplish a lot more than ever before. I've lost about 12lbs in these last two weeks, am experiencing a lot of detox, but I feel like this lifestyle is finally here to stay. I originally started by giving myself a 30 day challenge, but I'm already thinking I'd be sad to go back to any cooked when this is over.
I look forward to getting to know all of you!
