I've taken nuts out of my diet pretty much for the past month & a half b/c they're too heavy for me right now. I was in Chicago over the weekend & went to an AMAZING raw food restaraunt & had the works to eat. I had different samples & split an entree' of a raw deep dish pizza which was wonderful! Well all day yesterday I felt like crap. I didn't have heartburn but I was definetly having acid like burps & felt really bad. I feel great today though.
My question is can nuts cause indegestion? Has anyone else experienced this with nuts?
I don't think they were soaked, but in general nuts are too heavy for me!

I think you already have the answer - YES!
I don't eat nuts or seeds although they don't cause any big problems for me, it is more because once I start I can't stop!
Also, it is rare that the meals in raw restaurants are combined properly.

Silveretta - what do you mean by combined properly? I am trying to learn the basics of a raw food diet.

Katie P....with how you have been eating, light and fruity, this hit your belly like a ton of bricks! I never feel good after going to a raw restaraunt! It is too heavy, too combined, too complicated etc etc. You know the ansa to this one sweet.

There are just some combinations of food that are harder to digest then others...Since many people on this path already had some health issues, it is common for raw foodies to try to combine the food properly.
Some choose to mono meal (eating only one kind of fruit/vegetable for a meal until you are full).

Cool chart!
Well you already have your answer but, I wanted to give you my experience. I only have a problem with nuts if they are combined. Eating a handful of nuts or eating them with some veggies doesn't seem to cause a problem.
My GERD went away in 1 week of raw until I ate a dessert made of nuts and dates. It was totally yummy and I ate too much of it. I had nighttime GERD symptoms that night. I do seem to be able to have small portions of the wrong combinations without problems. I notice how much longer it takes to digest but, without GERD. We tend to eat to much at the same time as the wrong combinations. My advice is to avoid it and when you do it try to eat small portions and take some digestive enzymes and don't do it right before bed.

I have no problem eating nuts. I believe our bodies are designed to digest any combination of fats, protein, or carbs. I did have GERD before I went raw but no longer. The digestive system is like a muscle, use it or lose it. If you are into mono eating and simple carbs like fruit, then if you suddenly add nuts, your system is out of practice. But if you slowly just add a small amount of nuts each day, your system will get used to it again. Now I am not saying you have to eat nuts. But if you do want to enjoy them again, this is the way to do it. I personally cannot imagine eating raw without nuts. I love the variety they bring to me. But I don't eat huge amounts, just some each day.
