View Full Version : A really worrisome development.....

Been having some symptoms and I think it's related to eating too much from the brassica family and the thyroid issues. The final straw was some worrisome unexplained numbness and tingling in the extremities. After becoming suspicious - noticed it usually happens 1-3 hours after eating brassica

I'm thinking I should eliminate them from my diet for a while, 1-2 months.

I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO THIS!!!!:(

I love this stuff! -

cole slaw
sauerkraut
arugula
broccoli
cauliflower
rapini
kale
collards
mizuna greens
tatsoi
bok choi
turnips
radish greens

The list is almost endless~

I don't know how to do this - and this isn't even a "raw" thing - this is just an eating thing. Raw or sauted - many of these foods have been staples for years, others - newfound loves.

I have about 50 seed packs of various brassicas, different varieties of each type. Bought to keep me through the summer and winter in an avalanche of greens.

I feel like 1/2 my food is taken away. It's hard to wrap my mind around.

Any advice? I keep blocking this out of my mind - like I can't face it, until that tingling starts again. I know I need a major break. Any one else a brassica addict? Anyone able to live without eating some of them regularly????

TELL ME ABOUT IT!
I've been *trying* to avoid those too, as I think I have some imbalanced thyroid hormones. I've been trying, also, to up my seaweed intake--not so successful :(

i love my kale chips, my cabbage.... my broccoli!! :(

let's be miserable in the same boat :( :)

It's a sad time, for sure.

And I've already got so many of these in the ground! 6 cabbages, mizuna, tatsoi, and arugula for salads. Rapini, brocoli, and bok chio. Not to mention the purple kohlrabi and loads of radishes.....:(

I totally love the beets, spinach, and chard - but it's not like the incredible variety of the brassicas!

have you thought about doing a 10 day fast and see if that gifts your body enough time to heal and cleanse? fasting cleanses at a much higher rate... so you wouldn't have to give them up for as long...

That's a really interesting take on things Aleesha.

I will mull it over.....

Too much of a good thing??? Perhaps avoiding those foods for a few weeks will lower the levels of whatever is in them that has built up in your system enough to bother you.

As I'm sure you know any greens used frequently over long periods of time can have side effects. I used to put swiss chard in a smoothie every day. Finally, one day I made the smoothie as usual and could NOT drink it. It literally made me gag. I gave up chard for months. Now I'm finally back to enjoying it, but not too frequently.
