View Full Version : Hi guys and my lil problem

wow I dig this site. A lot of useful info. So a little about me. I'm 17 and have lived a raw way of life since I was 12. My parents still think I'm crazy and try to make me eat meat and cooked vegetables. Blegh. I think I'm okay. I weigh 144lbs. I'm 5'8. I've been trying to get bigger though. I joined a Gold's gym. I asked the people in the gym what to do and after I told them I can't have eggs or steak and explained to them I live a raw diet they kind of laughed in my face and told me I'm wasting my time even working out. They said veggie proteins are incomplete. I don't really know what that means though. The kids at school call me a faggot since I bring veggies in a bag for my lunch and don't eat like the rest of them. And my mom tells me I'm going to make myself sick but I get physicals and my doc said I'm in perfect health so I guess I'm okay. But I really want to get some muscles on me. The girls at school love all the guys with muscles who are tall. I'll never be tall I guess but I could at least get some muscles. Someone I know who was skinnier than me in school last year took something called dhea (sp?) with creatine and said he drank like 4 servings of whey protein everyday. He got huge and looked like a pro athlete. He got a really cool girl to date him too. I just don't want to go to my prom alone again. I'll never change the way I live but feel like I'll never get big sometimes and after what the guys at Golds said I'm kind of depressed. Any tips or advice?

Print this guy' (http://www.thegardendiet.com/storm.html)s pictures off and take them to Gold's Gym. He has been raw for over 30 years and doesn't even eat that many nuts anymore, just fruits and veggies. He works out every day. That's how you build muscle.

And look around. There are LOTS of 17yo guys on a SAd diet who eat tons of protein and are still slim. You are not done growing up yet.

I am very impressed by your commitment to your health! I wish my 18-year-old son felt like you do.

I wish you all the best with girls and the prom, but please keep in mind that the narrow world of high school expands dramatically with graduation. What matters now won't be so significant in two years. Life gets much better, in my opinion. :)

Hi Rocko,

Here's my suggestion ~ take up martial arts. What happens when going to the gym is you build what is called non-functional muscle. What that means is, you build a lot of useless muscle. You might look and seem strong yet, if you go against someone who builds muscle by doing something ~ For instance: My training partner was 5'4", weighing in at about 190 pounds of solid muscle (a lot of it from being on the juice). He went to work for his father one day. The next day, he came in to the gym totally embarrassed. The guys he worked with were older, leaner, stronger. Their muscle was built by the work they were doing.

Women love men who can take care of themselves. Besides building long, lean functional muscle, you'll also be able to take care of yourself and them if ever necessary. If not, you'll still be looking good, radiating self-confidence and ~ getting all the women.

As far as "protein" goes, ALL raw fruits and vegetables have the amino acids which create "complete" protein.

When I was first bodybuilding, I use to eat 3 egg omelets with everything in them ever day after training. I had muscle but you couldn't see them because they were hidden underneath all the flab. When I went vegetarian, the muscle was there to be seen. My training partner told me one day how great my back was looking and imagine what I'd look like if I ate animal protein. Been there, done that.

You're on the right path. Do what's good for your health first. I wish I knew then what you know now.

Thank you soooo much guys. Some really nice people here with awesome advice. Charlie Abel is hugeee. I was kinda blown away. He looks healthy though and not all plastic like some guys get when they go to the gym too much.

A friend of mine who plays on our football team gave me something he said would help me but I'm a little scared to take it. I looked it up though and it was on Amazon so I guess its okay (http://www.amazon.com/H-Drol-Anabolic-Buidling-Formula-Compare-Halodrol-50/dp/B000RHLKWS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1272729429&sr=8-2).

Anyone know much about it?

Oh and martial arts looks fun but I'm worried I'd get hurt or something. One of my friends does jutsu and mixed martial arts. I guess its cool but I really dont like getting hit LoL.

Okay for what? Do you want to be raw and healthy? Or take synthetic junk just to be HUGE? People have given you links to folk who don't do that.

Oh, btw? Most of the responses have been from women, not "guys".

Enjoy!

so I guess its okay.

Forget it, it is pure chemical.

TAKE living foods.

Check out the internet, there are several raw bodybuilders, marathonis, trieathletes, cyclist and so on and on.

They just get their protein from rawfood.

TRUE!!! Speaking for myself, as a healthy, hot, fit and RAW woman - I LOVE a man who cares for his body and I MUCH prefer lean, clean muscle + a confident demeanor + a man who UNDERSTANDS the source of his food... to those steroid-induced magazine-cover brainless bods I bump into on Campus...blegh!

Yeh I prefer natural and raw as well. My doctor told me if I don't want to eat meat I need to take an iron supplement or I risk getting anemia. I don't really think it's good to take pills which is why I was not keen with that stuff on Amazon that I posted that my friend gave me. It smells nasty too. But I thought you could get a lot of iron from broccoli and sprouts? I really needed people like you since everyone makes me think I'm living unhealthy and can never get muscle or health unless I eat meat or pop pills. Even my doctor!!!!! He does say I'm in good health though so I don't get it. Still, I'm a little jealous since the girls at my school like the really buff guys some of them even use steroids!!!!! But the girls like them. They don't really look at me much. I dont get girls though. The best looking ones all date the guys who hit them or cheat on them but wont talk to guys like me. I felt good today I was in the gym for 3 hours and one of the guys at Golds even asked me about living Raw. i gave him this site to check out. He was cool. He didn't put me down or anything he just asked saying he is curious about it. I think I even made a friend. LoL.

You will end up being the guy that every girl wants because you've been taking care of your body. All those meat eating, pill popping guys' bodies will eventually wear over time from what they are consuming. I think its a shame that people make fun of you because of what you eat at school. They won't be laughing when you are in top shape and health later on in life and they are worrying about how to cure things in their bodies that they have caused with their unhealthy habits. I respect how responsible you are being at such a young age. Keep it up!:D

Dude, go to YouTube. Look up Zenkahuna. Vegetarian for about 35 years now. Vegan, mostly raw... He introduced me to raw.... 61 years old. He gets the women.

Coach Tara is amazing. Neat exercises and she's in amazing shape for a girl. I started doing her stuff and really like it. She's cool.

I had another great workout today. I gave my friend back those pills he gave me. I tried one of them just to see what it was like and it made me feel sick. I was just curious. Anyways my friend got a little upset that I didn't want his pills he said they were expensive and that if I really don't want to take lifting seriously to stop asking him for advice and that my "diet" is not taking me anywhere so I emailed him links to that Abel guy and the other guy, the black dude to show him that us Raw Vegans can also build strong bodies. And I sent him Zenkahunas Youtube channel also. He wrote me back saying they were scrawny losers and none of them would ever be a pro athlete like a Kobe Bryant or Alex Rodriguez and that I'll be a loser like them. He usually doens't get that upset about things but he got mad that I didn't take his advice. He also told me I need to be in the gym lifting hard 6 days a week but I like doing things like Yoga and tai chi more so only lift weights twice a week. I don't know why people get so bent out of shape if you aren't JUST LIKE THEM. He hurt my feelings at the end saying this is why I'm still a virgin and I'll die alone since no one wants a scrawny wimp. Man, I want to get in top shape and stay vegan so one day I can really show him. Thanks again guys for all the great advice.

O.k., first off, Tara is a 40 year old woman and she could kick most of those guys butts in training as would Zenkahuna.... 3 tours in 'Nam and at 61 years of age... still going strong!! Without those little pills, powders, etc.

Second, I'm thinking your "friends" are not "friends". Eliminate them. Do what you do and you'll have more real friends than you can ever imagine.

Good luck to you from one of the WOMEN who helped you out here (I am most soitanly not one of the guys you keep referring to.) :)

Eh I don't mean to be offensive but "guys" is used for more than just men. Even Obama uses it in his speeches to refer to a group of people.

Tara and Zen seem to be in good shape but I have to side with my friends on this one. I doubt theyd last an hour training with a major sports team. My friends dad played for the Raiders. He also served in 'Nam. He said the workout of a pro team made the military look like playing in a sandbox in kindergarten. He was friends with some big names when he played which is really cool. He said they all did steroids and most have cancer or died. My friend who does martial arts said they only train the military to advanced white belt which is nothing. I kind of don't have any respect for the military anyway. They just kill innocent people who don't speak English. But I don't need to be a pro athlete though so if I could be in Zen's shape when I'm 60 or even now LoL I'd be happy.

I just read this too. I don't really understand it though. The guy says that vegetable protein is as good as animal protein then says later that it isn't. Huh? It's from Harvard but I don't buy into what something says just because its from a good school. http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/what-should-you-eat/protein-full-story/index.html#protein_alike

"All Protein Isn't Alike

Some of the protein you eat contains all the amino acids needed to build new proteins. This kind is called complete protein. Animal sources of protein tend to be complete. Other protein sources lack one or more "essential" amino acids—that is, amino acids that the body can't make from scratch or create by modifying another amino acid. Called incomplete proteins, these usually come from fruits, vegetables, grains, and nuts.
Vegetarians need to be aware of this. To get all the amino acids needed to make new protein—and thus to keep the body's systems in good shape—people who don't eat meat, fish, poultry, eggs, or dairy products should eat a variety of protein-containing foods each day. "

but it also says:

"Animal protein and vegetable protein probably have the same effects on health. It's the protein package that's likely to make a difference."

I'm so confused.

Doesn't make it right. Was just thinking today how males want to be called "men" at 18, yet females continue to be "girls" forever ... unless they're called "guys".

Tara and Zen seem to be in good shape but I have to side with my friends on this one. I doubt theyd last an hour training with a major sports team.

And that has to do what with your original topic? If you could just get into HALF the shape their in at YOUR age...

I'm thinking you're working too hard. This is a raw vegan forum and we do NOT discuss meat, fish, poultry (all of which are meat, by the way), eggs, dairy products (liquid meat), etc.

My suggestion, do it yourself and stop confusing yourself.

Everything we've shown you your "friends" have put down. Well, you know what? Unless they're side-by-side doing the same things, we'll never know who's in better shape will we?

YOU have to make the decision on what YOU'RE going to do and stop waffling.

I'm done.

Man I hated being 17. There is such a whole world beyond high school and the narrow view of life that most teenagers have. Hang in there until you are out of high school and in the meantime keep having the courage to forge your own path.

Your friend is not your friend. Friends don't talk to each other that way. I would look for a different gym, especially one that has a yoga or tai chi studio as well so I could do both. I am betting there is a vegan athlete mentor somewhere in your town. Call around to the different gyms and ask the owners if any of their best clients are vegans.

The only point of that article is that vegans need to eat a variety of foods to make sure they get all their protein needs. That is not normally a problem for any of us.

Where are you from? Have you introduced yourself on the teen forum? You might be surprised to find someone nearby.

Final though. Don't argue with Revvell. You will never win. :D

Here is a link (http://www.rawfoodmedia.com/component/content/article/48-athletics/95-raw-food-for-athletes.html) to an article giving some names of, and quoting some raw food pro athletes.

Now to address the hot girls going for the buff guys - my daughter is in high school and manages the JV and Varsity football teams. She is 5' 5" tall, wears a size 0, has a bust that won't quit, dark auburn hair with large waves, golden green eyes, and the most clear gorgeous skin you can imagine. All of the guys (and we are talking males here) on the teams love her to pieces and most would give their left, um, leg, to date her. She chose, and has stayed with her boyfriend for almost a year, a bean pole of a guy. She is with him because she sees past the outside package. He's a nice guy! So, please don't give up hope, some of the gorgeous girls are human too.

The best looking ones all date the guys who hit them or cheat on them but wont talk to guys like me.This leads me to wonder why a guy would want to date a girl that doesn't respect herself enough to require being treated right. I bet if you look around your school you could find an awesome girl that just isn't buying into the garbage that the "in" crowd is selling.

Back to raw foods - there is a thread on this forum for teens and young adults here's the link (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=30). Maybe other people your age could better help you deal with the peer pressure issue. All of us older folk tend to come from a different place than the younger people do. Still, I think you'll find that even the chronologically young people that are raw really love what it does for them and wouldn't change it based on the spewings of people who have never even looked at it.

I kind of don't have any respect for the military anyway. They just kill innocent people who don't speak English.I don't mean to beat you up here, however, the men and women serving in the military do much more than kill people, innocent or not. Among the many other things they do, they preserve and defend YOUR rights. YOUR right to speak YOUR mind, YOUR right to vote for the leader of YOUR country, YOUR right to create YOUR life ANY WAY YOU CHOOSE TO. Please think before you go ditzing the very people that make YOUR life safer and more free while making countless sacrifices that you could never imagine. :::stepping off of soapbox:::

Back to raw - I hope you can stay strong in your commitment to eating live foods. I know I wish I had found this when I was in high school. All the best to you!

Honestly, I have the feeling Lilrocko fights a lot of unnessary fights, and sometimes I have the feeling "Do not feed the TROLL!" Hopefully I'm not judging too early.

The best advice, I (an ugly 38 year old man) can give you, YOU will find the right one, it took me 30 years to get on touch with the, for me, best woman, but finally I succeeded and now I'm married since 7 years.

Lilrocko, I am always astounded when I see young people make vegan choices etc..at such a young age.It took me until 28! What even astounds me more is how you decided to become a raw foodist at 12 with family not living that way.Only for me watching someone on a forum try this diet, it would have never really occurred to me that a 100% was the way the go. Just curious as to how you made this choice.

Lilrocko
05-04-2010, 01:39 AM
Thanks. Cool name "How?" hahaha. Its getting harder as I get older. :( It's tough not having anyone encouraging me and people telling me it's a bad choice for health but I feel good so I think it's good for me. Idk if that makes sense.

The guys on this forum have been mostly supportive which is nice and I saw the teen section so maybe I'll meet some guys there who are more my age and can relate better to me. No offense to the nice people here but I don't think they are on my wavelength really.
A lot of people don't understand how tempting it is for boys my age to want to not just follow everyone but to do things like creatine or pop pills to try to get big since everyone else does them and everyone else is big then you are not. I hope there are some girls my age too. The old women giving advice here are super sweet but seem out of touch with whats going on right now. It's true nice guys finish last and girls do like steroid jacked athletes. I don't want to wait until I'm 35 and meet another 35 yr old woman I want a girl my age before I'm old and nasty and shes old and nasty. People get old and nasty and wrinkle. Its gross.
