Hi friends,
Today is my 1 month anniversary of turning 100% raw vegan. I mentioned before that I lost about 5 pounds the first week, but nothing else since then. In the past few days, I've noticed that I have "sweet breath"... similar to that of going on a low-carb diet.
I'm eating plenty of fruit, plenty of greens and not losing weight, so I'm wondering what's going on. If ketosis is the body's way of burning purely the fat, what is mine doing?

Ketosis is when the body burns anything but carbs so if it is using fat or protien for energy.

so ketosis is normal on a raw foods diet, even when you are eating plenty of fruits?

Hi Onelittleram,
I know that weight loss is probably your goal, so it is really frustrating that you may not be losing as fast as you would like, but as someone that has bounced back and forth with the weightloss from raw, I'd say that the initial weight loss is adjustment in fluids, not weight. You simply have to give it time.
I do not know your past history with food, but sometimes an adjustment in food intake such as all fresh and raw foods can lend to some bloat!
From what you say, you are doing everything right, so you just have to trust in that!
Nutrition is key, and your nutrition is on being raw so you have that cornered.
Now it is time to sweat.
AND DRINK PLENTY OF FRESH WATER!!! YOU GOTTA FLUSH THE TOXINS OUT!:D
Get in about :30-:40 minutes a day of sweating and increased heart rate. I'm not sure of your physical fitness level, but walk, run, swim, bike, jump, yoga, whatever you like, just move and you will see your body change.
I hope you have been monitoring your inches as well as your weight???
We often get so emotionally charged by and attached to the scale. Perhaps you should focus more on your inches lost for a while? That may help change your focus and move you in the direction you so desire.
Don't give up! You have done it this long so keep it up!
Good Job!!!
We're here looking out!

Most fruit is simple carbs with a small amount of protein and a small amount of fat. Some fruit has a higher % of fat in it like the avocado which has about 75% of calories from fat. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avocado#Nutritional_value
so I guess a lot depends on which fruits your eating. Greens have very few calories.

I just want to echo the water thing. I was complaining about my weight loss slowing down and my sister told me to drink more water. I drank a gallon a day and it started falling off. Now that doesn't work for everyone but, it was the issue with me. I don't have that ketosis smell to my breath but I do in my pee. It gets less when I am drinking enough water for me.
I would start with the water. Also high intensity interval exercises really help you lose weight. I try to do it like 5 days a week. You only need 20 minutes a day of it. I try to get in more exercise than that but, 20 min. a day will really rev up your metabolism. Go to this website for an explanation.
