I'm trying to get away from the deodorant that I use. I know it is really bad for me but it seems to be the only thing that works. I understand that I am going to sweat with natural deodorant so that isn't an issue. I tried that crystal rock thing and it eventually scratched my skin up when the polished top wore down. I even followed the suggestion to wipe it dry with a towel to prolong the rock edges coming through. Even the slightest bit hurt my skin! I tried Tom's and it seems to work really well. However, in the summer I had to use it like 2 or more times per day and that one made my skin red and flaky eventually.

Anyway try the natural liquid deodorants or does anyone sweat more than just a little and have any suggestions for natural deodorants that won't irritate my skin?:(

I'm in the same boat. I wish I could toss the crap, but it's the only thing that keeps me from stinkin! I've tried all kinds of natural stuff, but nothing works for me.

Hmmm...well at least I'm not the only one! I would love to hear what everyone has to say on this. :)

hey christina

As I posted recently in the no-soap thread, I switched from regular deodorant to using the "crystal stick". I have attached a jpg of the product I've been using now for 2+ months. I really like it because it is shaped like regular deodorant and seems to retain it's smooth shape and feel. It's so easy too, all I have to do is wet it and apply.

I tried Tom's of Maine, but the smell repulsed me. Plus, it didn't seem to work at all.

I used to think I would have to use antiperspirant forever, as I am prone to hyperhidrosis (excess sweating) in the arm pits. I haven't experienced that to the degree I used to in a while, but for years I had to deal with it on a regular basis. And still now when I am anxious, I my pits start to sweat probably more than a "normal" (heh, what's that?) person.

All this said, I've really had good results with the product I'm now using. I don't stink, and I don't tend to sweat very much... though I don't think this is because of the product, but because I feel more grounded/calm in my life more than I ever have before. (*smile*)

Anyway, just wanted to share. Good luck with your search... and I strongly suggest you get off of using regular deodorant/antiperspirant... it is really not good for us!!! I feel better just knowing I've made that switch for my health. You can do it too!

When I stopped using deoderant, I rubbed coconut oil on my underarms. Now I don't use anything.

I admit though, that I've never been a big sweat-er, so maybe that makes a difference. If I did sweat - I wonder if a dusting of baking soda might help? (I don't know though - just typing out loud).

I know Matt & Angela Monarch sell a scented deoderant powder on their website, Raw Food World called Scent of Samadhi you might like to take a look at. She just vlogged about it. She doesn't wear it every day (she wears nothing usually), but she said she wears it if she has to speak publically as her adrenaline rushes and she needs it then. *Ü*

Joya, I've never seen this brand before. I'm going to WF today for some grocery shopping so I'll look for it. :) I will say that after going raw, the B.O. is very minor when I workout without deodorant, which is why I end up wearing it! :( But...it is better then it used to be. :)

Daydream and DebB..Interesting about the coconut oil. :)

I don't use deodorant. Haven't in quite some time. I figure we're made to sweat. We have numerous lymph nodes in that area. Yeah, I have an odor on occasion... part of being human methinks..... plus, depends big time on what I'm eating.

I smell nice and sweet mostly, its still an armpit smell, though haha.
i use a "natural" brand, but have been known to use ACV, lemon juice, or baking soda, or even baby powder. The latter I put in my shoes sometimes :)

ACV works GREAT for me! I stopped using deo because I have become very allergic to it--all brands--even Tom's unscented! I was surprised at how well the ACV works..

I've been using a natural deodorant for almost 5 years but then it's not quite work for me.. what should I do?

Before raw food, i was using a vanilla lotion only. Now, i don't use anything because i don't have odour. High protein diet will lead to strong odour as per dr. Morse. You don't want to block the pore in this area, you want the toxin out or will go somewhere else.

I've used more the spray bottle form than deodorant.

Oh, baking soda is hands down the best!

Wash under your arms, then while wet,, dip your wet fingers into powdered bak soda and rub under your arms. Works like a charm. Mercola says even the crystal ones contain some aluminum. I think the bak soda works BETTER than the crustal ones, anyway.

SchoolofRawk turned me onto baking soda and although i've never met her, I think of her often while I'm applying this.

I use Kiss My Face olive oil soap for my face and body. I also use their deodorant. I find that it works great for my wife and me. There is aluminum in it, but it supposedly a kind that is not absorbed by the skin the way that normal deodorants/antiperspirants do.

I've tried EVERY natural deodorant out there and Home Health Herbal Magic Jasmine Deodorant is BY FAR the best. It's fantastic. If I run out of that, I use a little coconut oil because I always have that on hand.

I make my own out of baking soda, coconut oil, and arrow root powder - mix 1/2 cup of each and heat, then pour into container and store in fridge. It is a bit abrasive on the skin, but you don't need that much, and it works great.

You should try the spray mist. It's extremely gentle with only 2 ingredients.... just purified water and mineral salts. It's what doctors recommend to cancer patients because everything else usually irritates their sensitive underarm skin.
