Dessicated Coconut

I see recipes using dessicated (sp) coconut and I'm not sure what that is. Can I substitute unsweetened dried coconut instead?

desiccated and dry mean the same thing. whenever i'm not sure what a word means, i use google...

You know I did check that word out and saw "dried", but I figured, 'there must be more to this if they used the word 'desiccated' instead of a simple term like 'dried' coconut.
