View Full Version : Where do you keep your dehydrator?
I'm thinking of putting my dehydrator in my laundry room, so it isn't cluttering up my kitchen counter. I have an Excaliber, and am wondering if it will create enough heat to damage a finished table top. Thanks for the info.
I keep mine where my microwave used to sit - ha!
If you don't hear here, I would contact Excalibur and ask them about sitting it on a finished table top. That way you'd know for sure. *Ü*
Thanks for the idea, I didn't think of that, I got their toll free number, but will have to wait to call (different time zone)

I keep mine on my counter where the toaster and coffee maker used to sit. Wish I could get rid of the microwave. My hubby insists that he can't live without it. (although he does seem to be heating up his food on the stove more often than not lately. there is always hope)

Hi c2b,
See photo below - day to day, I keep my Excalibur on this antique piece of furniture (buffet? sideboard? whatever . . .)
I use it constantly and it has not damaged the finish.
When I use the dining room, which is rare, I just hide the dehydrator in the pantry until everyone leaves.

mine is on a finished piece of furniture and hasn't done a darn thing to it. ;)
I just got off the phone with Excalibur company, I told her I never set it any higher than 105. She said,"You'd definitely have moisture so I would suggest putting something under it." I don't know, when I saw revdrcyn picture with her dehydrator I thought maybe I can get away with it. Guess I have to wait to set it up till I get something.

I keep it in our (daylight) basement. Though it can be a nuisance carrying trays up and down the stairs, I'd rather get the extra exercise than have the noise and smell in the main living portion of the house.
I keep mine in the basement too, on top of a wood-top table. So far, so good... I haven't noticed it affecting anything, thought I've used it less than a dozen times so far.
Aw, RawKnitster... the smells are the best part! But I hear you about the noise...

Mine is on TOP of the nasty microwave that my husband can't live without. Do I care if it damages the microwave? Not a Bit!!! lol

Yeah - but what if the microwave damages you dehydrator? :D Eeeeek! (just teasing). *Ü*

:D Most of the time I like the smells. Onion bread can be a bit strong (husband doesn't care for it), and the cheesy kale chips can be downright dirty smelling.
I forgot to mention, I keep it on an old wood table. Hasn't made any marks on the table yet.

Mine's on the soapstone kitchen counter. Don't have anywhere else to put it and pretty much nothing damages soapstone. Haven't had issues with any dehydrating smells but the noise is sometimes an issue.
