Hello again!

I have a question... are there any raw foods that are considered more "energizing" than others? It seems like I am exhausted all the time. I want to sleep right after the evening meal, sleep through until morning, and then want a nap on my lunch break, too! I've been about 95%-80% raw for the last two weeks.

So, what works for everyone else when you need that special boost or you aren't feeling good? Any particular smoothie recipe or anything you know gets you moving?

Thanks!

-Jessica

have you been checked for hormone imbalances?
if you're eating high raw, you should have more energy . although, perhaps you are detoxing and your body just needs a rest :) it's hard to say

Can you give me an example of what you are eating on a normal day?

I detoxed majorly in the first week. It was like having a minor cold. Then I had a huuuuge energy spike, and now I'm back down to where I was when I started. *sigh* I was just hoping this was a permanent answer.

well, you should try waiting a little longer than 2 weeks for a permanent answer ;) also, maybe try 100% raw... it makes the difference

Yeahhhh, you're right. After that initial burst of feel-goodness, I was hoping it would stick around forever! I'd go 100%, but I do bake my own organic sprouted bread, and I just can't do raw hummus. (blech) I will carry on, but I was wondering if there were any smoothie recipes or anything I should try that is particularly energizing...

If you're still eating wheat that could be a big contributor to your exhaustion. Many, many people are gluten sensitive or intolerant, and cleaning up your diet can really cause your body to tell you what does and does not work for it. I know any time I eat wheat now, I may as well have taken a sleeping pill...within 15 mins. I want to pass out!

Also, if your meals are heavy on the nuts/seeds/oils/avocados/other fatty foods, that can zap your energy as well. While fruits and veggies are light and energizing, fats are generally very grounding and a meal rich in fat can make you sleepy.

Are you eating enough? Many people mistake things like sluggishness and fatigue for detox symptoms when they first begin their raw journeys, but in a lot of cases they simply feel exhausted because they are undereating. Raw foods can be quite filling, so much so that we often don't eat as much on raw as we did eating cooked food.

Stick it out, play around with different foods to see what works for your body, and keep thinking positively! Any drastic change, even one for the better, takes some time to get used to.

Can you give us an idea of what you are eating on a typical day? That will help narrow things down a bit.

I felt like you for about 6 weeks before I turned a corner and finally started to have a little bit of energy. It can take awhile, especially if you have health problems that need fixing (all that raw energy is going towards healing your body) and if you are still eating things that your body doesn't like, such as perhaps wheat.

I find that citrus fruits are very enlivening.

I feel especially great after eating oranges or drinking juice

Wheatgrass juice is amazingly energizing!

I've been about 95%-80% raw for the last two weeks.

Kinda' early to tell, and without more info I would hesitate to act like I know what you're experiencing... BUT - that early on in your raw transformation, Detox is pretty common - and fatigue often comes with Detox. :)

I was pretty tired for the first month or so of my 100% Raw trial (I'm now nearing 7 months 100% Raw Vegan and no longer deal with fatigue issues when I'm not near/on my Cycle...).

I did start taking a raw vegan B-12 supplement daily for awhile, and now I take it once a week or so. It helped with my energy levels. I was B-12 deficient PRIOR to going Raw. :)
