It's that time again... it's time for this Mama to do an extended fast. I am planning on doing an extended water and coconut water fast. We'll see how long I go but I'm aiming for 45 days.

My start date is Thursday, April 29th. I'll start off with water for three days and then decide if I'll continue with just water or move on to coconut water. Tea will be welcome during my fast as well. It's a nice way to have a pamper moment and to warm my body when needed.

So... anyone wanna join me?

Here's my commitment to myself:

I will not break my fast on a hard day.
I will not break my fast today... I can choose to break it in two days, but not today.
I will nourish my body with meditation, long walks within nature and plenty of rest.
I will give myself whatever I need during my fast.
I will surround myself with love.

in light,
Aleesha

Hi
Count me in I am on another water fast I started today. I plan to go longer than 40 days. I am not sure how long but I will see how I feel. I find water fasting much easier than juice fasting.
Good luck to everyone who is fasting.:)

I'll check in when I can fasters. I am on day 16. You know, I transitioning to different things. I really wanted to focus on all my major organs. I am going to start this womb tea and then toward the end I'd love to do coconut water because it's such good stuff.

Chao!

Well I've decided I don't want to wait so I'm going to do juice tomorrow (since I work) and then water on Thursday...

So... let's get this party started!!!

Cool! Always exciting to start a fast! Well I am of course in, but I don't know how much I will be posting in the next little while because I am very, very sick. I'm nearing day 60 of a juice/water fast at a retreat in the Philippines, and right now I'm battling with a nasty roundworm. I've been in bed for days, and last night I threw up so much that I got dehydrated, to the point that I needed Leeann to nurse me all day with cooling oil, wet towels and drinks of ginger/honey/sea water through a straw, accompanied by aloe vera and okra to soothe my system. Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow.

If there is one thing I have learned, it is to exercise EXTREME caution when water fasting. The toxins can come out way more quickly than the body knows what to do with them!

Fast on, everyone!!! :D

That has to be true---cause I was surprised at how fast things like exhaustion, muscle cramps hit me with just those 10 days. I'm not usually there until around day 20 with other types of fasts. That's kinda how the MC is (lots of my friends don't like it, get very ill) and I guess it's cause it detoxes the organs and system in general faster than something like the Daniel fast for example. For some reason, I'm one of those people - in all of my many fasting journeys- who does not have the major detox symptoms. Even when I first transitioned to raw, never did - kept waiting but nope...

I certainly hope the your fasting journey provides some relief--that sounds like a miserable feeling. Wow!

Did you already have the roundworm or did you get it while there? What do you think the cause was?

I'm in too. I do not have a length of time set for this fast.

I've been feeling kind of crappy. I don't know if its all the junk in the air or what. I just woke up this morning and said--"I have to fast!" So here I am.

Bike---I am praying that you feel better soon. I know that you are reaping the benefits of this fast but wowza...you are going through a lot. Love and hugs to you.

Happy fasting everyone.

bike get to the retreat... had a lot of colonics and her worms started coming out. she's been releasing them for around 6 weeks now. (just to get everyone up to speed)

i am sooooo in the fasting zone already and it's the morning of my first day. i am thrilled. i find it so hard to fast when i'm trying to force a fast... this fast is begging me to experience it... i love that. cause i find myself begging it to come to me!

i'm about to have some fasting yogi tea (my love tea) and a glass of water. i have to work today... and then lots of water starting tomorrow.

nice to see so many faces here... (((hugs)))

I loooove it when I don't feel detox. It doesn't mean it isn't happening... it just means it's not being felt!

Think about it... how much dis-ease have you created in your body without being aware of it!

I'm sipping on some lovely LOVE tea... and now I've got to get to work.

Have a love filled day!!!

I had a day. It was not so much "love filled". Thankfull to have been fasting today. It was not a good one. Not because of the fast....but because I am sometimes surrounded by too much negative energy. I work in a restaurant/bar. You would think that it would be a place where people are having a good time. Not so much. Then I got yelled at by the neighbor on the end of the block for not picking up my dog doo. Well here is the funny thing. I had a bag of dog doo in my hand. From my dog. MMMMM. The good news is that I controlled my urge to throw it at her. And the best news is that I went right into the zen mode of fasting. Been very calm and collected today. Already feeling the in the zone. I don't know if it is a fluke. I do know that I am not going to over think it. I am happy to be in this state.

Happy fasting.

had a FULL night of totally bizarre fasting dreams. happens whenever i fast...

but i'm awake now and looking out my front window as i type. the deep red of our maple tree and the green of our cedar is just breathtaking beside each other. the rain is coming down and my cat is watching it fall from his perch. ahhhh life is good. very very good indeed.

today is water for me. i plan on spending some time in my infra-red sauna and enjoying the day.

hope all is well with everyone else.

bike, i have a question for you. have you taken any herbs to assist with the demise of your wormy friends? i would think that would assist you greatly with feeling better. what do your fasting assisters think?

CathyA.
04-29-2010, 10:32 AM
I'm just totally amazed at the length of time that Bike has been expelling these little beasties. Kind of makes me wonder what the heck I have going on inside of me. Bike- are the giving you something herbal to help you along. I guess the only kind of parasite cleanse I've done was a wormwood and black walnut tincture.

Looking like a rainy day here in MN. Going to take a lazy day and meditate and read. I woke up at 5 a.m., bright eyed and bushy tailed, so I'm sure that a nap will be in order. Looking forward to that actually.

Only taking water so far today. We will see.

Happy fasting.

Today begins day four. I overslept on purpose, waking up at 8 but staying in bed till 11. Unfortunately, I still have hunger. It seems to be diminished though, which makes me think the hunger will be gone by tomorrow or the next day. Come on brain, send those signals!

In less than an hour I am heading out in my car. This'll be the first time since my fast that I have done so.

All in all though, I feel pretty good and am looking forward to my day.

day four... your hunger should be gone... or greatly diminished by now. that said... there is no norm or rules when fasting - every BODY is different.

try doing a day of just water... that always shuts down my hunger fast. much faster than juice.

Greetings! I would love to join the thread to give and receive suppport. I am currently on day 10 of my juice fast with the last three days being just water. I love reading everyone's notes. This is my first time posting.

This is my third or fourth fast, the rest were pretty short - 3 to 7 days. I am planning on a long fast this time, perhaps 30 to 40 days, depending on how it goes.

Detox this morning really kicked in, I was surpised because during the first 7 days of juice fasting not much detox. Feeling sick and weak today, urgh.

Good luck to all!

Just saying hey...today is day 18. Honestly I don't know if I should even be calling this a MC. The first 10 days were 90% air with 10% water... so then I went from water fasting to the MC but these past 8 days I've been really good if I can get in 3 drinks of the MC drink. I feel great spiritually and mentally; I'm tired physically but that's to be expected and not really anything new from other types of fast. I just don't have a desire to drink - it's as if taking the time to eat is taking away from just breathing if that makes sense:).

Yet - after signs of dehydration, my common sense did kick in and so I actually have to make myself drink something - was using the timer on my phone believe it or not - LOL. We had record weather here in April ---it has NEVER been in the 90s in April here....so that's where the dehydration part came in (I travel a lot 2 or 3 hour trips to meetings and then 2 or 3 hours back to town depending on which county I'm going to. That's why I say, I use common sense.

I tell you one thing. If I didn't have to consider work, traveling and other volunteer projects, I would just be still and be at home (I love when I am blessed to fast without life's distractions).

Love reading about everyone's journeys...

That's about it amigos:)

Hello all,

I've been so inspired by every ones posts here and thank you for that!

I'm new to fasting and am currently on day 3 of a MC. I'm wanting to do it for 10 days, then a few days of water fasting. From there I hope to move on to a juice fast, both fruit and vegetables with some days of water fasting. I'm shooting for at least 20 days after the MC but we'll see how it goes.

These first three days have been relatively kind to me. I've had mucus since day one but it comes in waves. I've been occasionally getting body aches. Mostly lower back and some weird leg pains last night in bed. Stretching has given relief. So far the worst of it has been a nasty headache I got right before bed last night. Not sure if it was related to the tea I had that night or not drinking enough water.

The first thing I noticed this morning when I woke up was that the headache was gone and I felt fantastic! I have a lot of energy, no hunger pains and very little cravings. Have already released 8 lbs and that's very encouraging even if it was mostly water.

/cheers to all of you!

I'm not weighing myself at all during this fast. I find that focusing on what I'm releasing and what I'm not releasing is never a good place to be... so... unlike every other fast I've done... I did not weigh myself before I began. *Let your pants be your guide*

Had a very busy day today. So much walking... and then on our way home I had my hubby drop me off and my teenage son joined me (which was a beautiful and pleasant surprise) and we walked home. He's injured from a skateboarding fall... so his knee is pretty sore but he wanted to walk anyway.

We had a great workout!

I'm not thirsty... and not interested in taking in any fluids at this time. I'll just keep on keeping on...

Need to get into my sauna and meditate though... that'll probably happen in the next hour or two.

Sooooo happy to see so many new faces... welcome welcome welcome!!!

Kale-getting through the first three days of the mc were always the hardest for me. You've got the tough part down. Good job.

I was going to nap, relax, and meditate. Ended up doing a butt load of errands and meeting up with my mom for "coffee". No I did not have coffee, but I did have a tastey kombucha tea.

Having a lot of lower back pain today and my left pinky finger is itching like CRAZY. AHHH...the many joys and variations of detox. You just never know what your going to get. Spin the wheele. There's a winner every time. Hehehe. Got to love it:p

Hi everyone!

When I began, I took Clarkia (which is wormwood plus black walnut, I think) plus 4 cloves of garlic a day. Plus I used a zapper, which sends a small current to kill parasites internally. Since I have been really sick and vomiting, I stopped the garlic and Clarkia, because I need to focus on keeping down fluids and electrolytes, and on strengthening my body. I actually was killing the parasites TOO FAST, because my body did not have a chance to metabolize the toxins and expel them. (I've also been on water, so my processes have slowed).

Still nursing the ginger/honey/salt/lemon drinks, and sipping as much water as possible, trying to keep it down. I sent for an IV of saline, and it should be arriving today, so that will help immensely with getting my body balanced.

Problem is, my liver is keen to expel the worms, so it's producing lots of bile, but the worms are clogging my small intestine, so the bile comes back up and I vomit. Nasty cycle.

Even without taking any herbs, I still have loads of worms coming out every day in my colonic, and the lady who owns the retreat says they're a variety of strains. That is, through my years of SAD eating, I've picked up and harboured a whole range of little nasties!!! And they lived happily inside me...until now! And I had NO IDEA!!!

The hunger seems to have receded (for the most part). So thats a good thing. I don't think I drank enough water yesterday: only 3 liters and change and almost all of that by 7pm. I think that led to me feeling exhausted by 9-10 and getting a slight headache.

In the afternoon though I felt great. I was able to engage in conversations with my friends. I felt and seemed energized. I hope I can maintain a good energy level for most of the fast.

451, If you need energy and open to raw honey... you can add some to warm water and that will give you an energy boost to assist you. You can also lick it off a spoon. Of course, if you are choosing nothing but water... then ignore this advise :D

Bike, wow your situation is so overwhelming - good thing you are in the hands of the people at the retreat.

I slept well last night. Lots of dreams but nothing super weird. I even slept in which is nice.

Aleesha, I was going to ask that same question - bike's experience really has me thinking. In all of fasting journeys - especially the long-term fasts - I've never had the experience of expelling worms like that. Wow! Makes me wonder, what's still in there even after all the fasting and cleansing over the years - cause I've only been on this raw vegan journey for 4 (will be 4 years in August) years and before then I ate a lot of junk of course. Where are they hiding? Even with the colonics I've had over the years, wow - nothing like what bike is experiencing.

I got a feeling I might have had that experience had I been able to take this particular herbal tea blend for worms and parasites. I've drank many bitter tonics in the past for various cleansing purposes and usually can adjust to the taste within a day or two. But this one was so powerful that I had to wave the white flag and pour it out. It was a blend that I had to simmer for a while over the stove and then let steep for several hours...I could never get it down .

Anyway, bike's experiences have really got me curious

Aleesha Sattva
04-30-2010, 12:30 PM
we have to remember that even the people at her fasting retreat say her experience is very unique!

i'm not overly concerned. i've done months of garlic juice... (parasites don't like garlic juice at all).

that's also why i asked bike what her symptoms were that she had such an infestation... cause there must have been signs. you couldn't be hosting that many and not know it. i'm also very surprised that she is so overweight and has so many parasites. from what i understood (which obviously was wrong) having parasites in that amount would make you undernourished and very thin???

i'm really confused by this situation and i'm not doubting bike saying all these worms are coming out... but it just doesn't make any sense in my mind. i'm hoping bike will be able to enlighten us all when she's feeling better. (((hugs to bike)))

Good points Aleesha...

What is your garlic juice recipe... I could just eat garlic (to my mom's dismay) because I love it that much. I think I'll do a maybe a garlic/lemon/??? type of drink toward the end of this journey.

Off to grab some household stuff for my mom and dad......

Aleesha Sattva
04-30-2010, 12:52 PM
I would add garlic to my juices... green juices, tomato blends...

I did so much... I can't imagine anything surviving. I started a thread about parasites... it seems the symptoms are all encompassing and nothing really specific in nature...

Bike- Just amazing. It's good to hear you'll be getting an IV of Saline. I'm sure it'll help you through this a great deal.

Cathy- After reading your post I had to take a short walk around the house despite not feeling very well. Soaking it all in really lifted me and I'm feeling better for that. :)

Didn't feel too well when I woke this morning. Mainly for the congestion in my head which made it hard to sleep last night. Also my body just felt bleh. After doing all the morning stuff including a BM, I went back to bed for a few hours. Woke up, came and read this thread and then walked around a bit outside and am feeling much better now. Not sure if I'll exercise today but we'll see how it goes.

Today I had the juice of 2 oranges (that was this morning); I haven't had anything since. I will make sure I drink at least 1/2 gallon of water today along with a few MC drinks I guess (no desire to drink still)-pretty much just forcing myself to drink something to correct the dehydration feelings and I thought the blast of orange juice would boost things but nope... think I need to go out and get some teas

Almost forgot, last night I did have an experience of being very hot (sweating even) with a slight runny nose for about an hour - I was like YAY Detox, cause I'm guessing that it must be what was going on. It's weird to be excited but I've never experienced that before on a fast. It went away almost has fast as it popped up. Finally something new on a fast besides the typical face breakout and being tired.

Is this pretty common with fasting? Because I'm getting this too, I'm just not thirsty. I've heard that hunger tends to go away relatively soon (haven't had any hunger either) but I didn't know that it could happen with thirst too. Pretty cool but I can lose track of how often I'm drinking. I tend to get drawn into what ever I'm doing.

it is very true that you tend to not want anything when you are fasting... no water no nothing. this is why it's a good practise to drink a litre or two of water first thing in the morning... and then drink 1/2 a litre whenever you use the bathroom... this will keep you hydrated and keep your body happy!

I just introduced myself in the who are you section. I will be doing a MC fast starting tomorrow, May 1. This will be my 6th or 7th MC. I would love to do a juice fast but I'm on a tight budget right now and the MC is much less expensive to do. Eventually, I would love to do a water fast but I don't feel ready for that yet- it intimidates me! :o Anyway, I appreciate that you are all here for support, knowledge and encouragement- thanks in advance everybody and I will see you tomorrow for my Day 1. Hi guys! I love that this thread is so active! Makes me feel summer is coming. :)

Well, I feel much better since hooking up the IV last night (my paramedic coworkers in BC will LOVE this story LOL!). I've infused about 1.25 Litres so far, and my double vision, head pressure, and some of my dizziness has gone away. Yay!

Yes, Aleesha, that Clarkia is what I took, 25 drops 3 times a day. When I first arrived here, I did 2 weeks of "shakes"--bentonite clay, psyllium husk, and charcoal in a solution of coconut water and ground goji berries. These, along with supplements like cinnamon, cloves, probiotic, turmeric, ginger, garlic, chili, and others, were designed to act as a "bulldozer" in my colon, before I went to straight juice and water. I also took the Clarkia. I found, even with all the psyllium, I did not move my bowels at all without a colonic. This was odd, even among the other people here. How can I take 5 heaping tsp of psyllium a day and tons of laxative herbs and not BM on my own? I tried castor oil packs, epsom salts...nothing! However, my colonics went well.

Before I arrived, my pattern was to not eat, sometimes for 2 or 3 days at a time, then do a huge binge on SAD food. Also, I always woke up 2-3 times in the middle of the night and filled up on simple carbohydrates and fats. I now understand this pattern was motivated by the worms' "hunger". They would get together in their little nests and literally "control" my body into feeding them. (I'm sure many people here can relate to the feeling of loss of control when eating SAD food LOL!) Because the worms went for the essential nutients first (iron, magnesium, calcium), my body was left malnourished and craving more. So the binge cycle continued.

I've never had regular BMs, even in my regular life before, and up to this day (2 months in) of the retreat, I have not BMed on my own. In fact, the owner is shocked that as the worms are still coming out, so too are bits of feces.

I should note, I was a very neglected child, and played outdoors and ate dirt and chewed my fingernails, with noone to clean me up after.

Happy fasting.

Thanks Bike for sharing your journey - I just know it's going to be helpful to many. Off to run some errands but I do have some new stuff to report on this Day 20 of the water/sometimes MC fast. In the wee hours of the morning:
- major cramp/muscle spasm in front/top of foot (near ankle) that was way more intense than calf cramps
- sharp intense pain on lower abdomen area (left side near repoductive organs)
- a very noisy stomach (but not the typical hunger noises - more like something going on or moving around if that makes sense)

That's about it....

Still no desire to drink, perfectly fine with air but using coming sense - commited myself to a minimum of 64 oz of water and 4 MC drinks...so we'll see how that works out. This is the most excitement I've had on a fasting journey -:) My fasting experiences are typically pretty quiet (physical exhaustion but mental alertness with breakouts on my face)

Just want to say hello and wish everyone a Super Saturday today

Hi Rawhoney!

well i woke up this morning completely exhausted. i have some stuff i need to do today but if i'm still feeling low... i'll just leave it to another day.

lav, are you drinking MC daily? i'm just doing water and i'm finding that although i had energy in the first days of this fast, each additional day i have less and less. i think i may need to add juice in for the days i work... we'll see. i'm taking this moment by moment cause i'd prefer to stay on water for as long as possible.

well i have less than zero energy... so i'm going to curl up on the couch and watch my favourite movies today...

a friend mentioned that a tumbled quartz (smooth stone) will assist with drawing out toxins... so i've got my daughter looking through our bowls of stones to find me some.

It's so good to hear how much that IV helped you Bike!

Feeling much better this morning then I did when I woke up yesterday. Still have a lot of mucus in my sinuses but it seems to be dwindling down. Drinking more water helped.

Think I'll skip the SWF today. Don't feel like I need it atm. I'm also thinking I'll use less cayenne pepper today in my MC drinks and see if my body can deal with the mucus on its own

My energy level seems a bit lower today. Guess my body is doing a lot of healing so I'm going to take it easy.

Just realized I had no lower back pain yesterday or today as of this moment.
/cheers!

that's good news on the lower back painless kale!!!

i chose to add a little juice to my day. my energy level was waaaaay too low for my liking. so my hubby just made me the most delicious apple/celery/ginger that i've ever tasted!!! it was absolute perfection! i drank 1/2 a litre and may have a bit more later.

he's decided that since the greenstar is out... he's making me juice to freeze. what a great hubby i have (((hugs)))

i had a bath, which felt good. i feel like i stink although no one else can smell my stinkiness... so it may just be in my nose (i get this weird detox nose thing that happens when i fast sometimes)... but it feels good to be clean regardless. i put some him sea salt in my bath.

well i'm off to watch a movie and bliss out...

Oh that does sound good! I'll have to add that to my list of juices to try when I move into my juice fast.

When I had been raw before, I mostly made smoothies. However, the more I hear about the efficiency of juicing the more excited I get about it.

The plan was to do it daily - but honestly, did have 3 drinks today and about half of my water goal met so far today. I just don't have the desire to drink. I think though- that I'm going to implement some cleansing juices eventually here cause my energy levels are like yours - makes me just want to sit and stare into space when I think about all the work that I should be doing:D

I had "fasting high" today. First it was pretty cool. Love that feeling. Then it was kind of a pain. Soooo hard to concentrate on customers orders and doing my job. Spacey waitresses are not appreciated. LOL.

Well guys, I got a call from my brother last night who I haven't seen in 8 years and he is coming with my nephews out here for a visit and will be here Monday. (thanks for the notice!) So my plans for the MC have been put aside for now- I am bummed about that but so very happy to see my family so I cant be too upset... Anyway, I will check back in when the visit is over and I wish you all the best fasting experiences! I hope to be joining you soon! I WILL BE BACK!!!! :)

cathy, i hear ya. i love that my 'fasting eyes' have returned. they were there, waiting for me when i woke up this morning. pure light blue... so clear... ahhhh i love this.

i'm still butt peeing... not sure when it'll stop but i'm open to it going on for as long as it needs to. apple juice is my version of the SWF *giggling*

been sipping on water... but i think i'm probably done for the night so i can sleep.

that's why raw foodies are cold when they begin as well. the furnace isn't getting any of those 'hard to digest' foods... so it doesn't burn as hot. when we fast... there's nothing there.

i'm off to bed. watched movies all day LOL

This is my 6th day with the MC part of my fast and I'm feeling really good. Most of the congestion left me last night! /does a happy dance! Was doing a lot of sneezing yesterday which didn't bother me one bit because I kind of like sneezes hehe.

Hmm, My body is saying it wants a lot of stretches today. Maybe I'll try to do some yoga. (I haven't since high school.) :o

OMG, I messed up.
Yesterday was Day 2 of my water fast.
I thought I was going to die if I didn't eat something.
I wasn't hungry but yet and still I caved in and ate.
Now today I haven't ate and consider myself sticking to my fast although I messed up.
I finally found my juicer in my garage where I store things.
I will be doing the water fast during the day, when afternoon comes and evening I will juice.

What advice can you give me, please I want an opinion of why I caved in like that? Will I ever receive success with water fasting? I wanted to do a set amount of time, and especially longer than 1.5 days.

Thanks in advance

The worst of the cravings for food happen for me in the first three days. If I can just get throught the first three days...the rest seems like a breeze. Do something distracting at night. That is when it (craving) wants to trick you into eating. Also... I don't let my self "cave" at the end of the day. If I still feel like I need to eat the next day...then I'm okay with breaking the fast.

Happy fasting.

Aleesha Sattva
05-02-2010, 07:46 PM
you caved because you chose to eat. pure and simple. i know it feels more complicated than that when you make that choice... but it is a choice.

go for a walk
meditate
read a book
take a long bath (works great for me)
get in the sauna
ride a bike
watch tv
read a book

those are all things you can do when you want to eat. don't allow yourself... just don't allow it.

it's kinda like quitting smoking... you just have to make the choice and then do it. when you WANT to eat... ignore the feeling. focus your mind elsewhere... have a nice cup of tea. anything to get your mind off food.

i find a car ride helps as well. gets me away from the food!

i had the BEST day today. ahhhh i'm in my bliss. i stopped by a juice bar and got a litre of fresh squeezed oj... and off to the plant shop we went. got all our gardening stuff... so excited to have a garden this year.

i am so blissed out today... feeling the ZONE is a comin' it's a comin'

Thanks CathyA. for that. It was a double whammy because I broke my raw food regimen as well. I'm happy you gave me some encouragement, so today is day one for me, and I will juice a little to sustain me. What I need to do is a self-inventory. If I need to break my fast I'll turn to my raw food. You have good insight and I needed to hear that, thank you.

I apologize about posting the food. I need to refresh my memory and read the rules of this board. I thank you for being so patient with me, and also thanks for the tips. Yes I gave in and the worse part was my choice. I don't live with regret, I dusted myself off. Yes it felt very complicated, those are the exact words. Now I know I need to pre-occupy myself from now on when I feel I can't continue my fast. It happened ever so quickly, the urge to eat and the worse part I didn't slow down my mind enough to check my food choice. I felt like an addict, I was zoned out and focused on eating and not checking the choice, nor pushing myself to look for my juicer.

Well I'm back on track and drank some fresh squeezed juice. I used carrot, cabbage, celery, apple. My tummy is a little disturbed by the cabbage juice, I think.

I had the same thing happen to me tonight. Every single cell in my body wanted to just eat... not to fast anymore. So I told my hubby and he made me a spicy tea with cinnamon honey in it (raw)... he added ice cubes so it wouldn't be too hot for me to drink right away.

It totally assisted me to move past the moment. It satisfied my taste buds and filled my tummy.

I know I want to keep fasting. It can just be so hard at times. I'm with you Rawhoney... I'm with you all the way. It doesn't matter how much you fast, or how often... it's still tough.

But let's focus on the positive aspects of fasting for a moment... why are we doing it? What does it bring INTO our life and our body?

I know I'm fasting because I love the spiritual clarity. I love the deep connection I get with my Self. I love the way I feel once I get into the 'zone'.

I love the release of toxins. I love the detox. I really love how light my body feels when I fast. How much flatter my stomach is. How empty it feels (cause I feel 'heavy' after I eat sometimes).

As for the rules... it's only the fasting threads that I start that I ask everyone to not discuss specific foods. I'm sorry I didn't add that at the start of this thread, I normally do. It's just that if someone (like me tonight for example) reads that... it can cause the reader to have a craving and perhaps break their fast. I know none of us want to do that to our fellow fasters. I know that I don't want to do it to any of you. So saying "I ate" is okay... saying "I ate X, Y and then Z" is not.

I appreciate you in this thread. You bring such light and enthusiasm with you. I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. (((hugs)))

Thank you Aleesha :) for the compliment, and insight on how to ignore that hunger feeling and make the right choice. After I drank my juice I felt satisfied and that makes me feel there is hope to sticking to the fast. I didn't know I heard it before that a water fast could be rough. I watched this lady on youtube and she claims she fasted on water for 40 days, that was amazing, and she did it for an additional 80 days taking off a week and repeated it all over again. She got really gaunt looking, but she looks better and healthy again. Can anyone believe that?

rawhoney... i totally believe it. lots of people thrive on water. they do great. i have fasted lots but water knocks me to the ground most days. i prefer to feel energized when i fast... hence why i do juice.

i'm feeling good again this morning. i'm ready for work, be leaving in a bit. hubby is making me some cantaloupe juice to take with me and then later he's going to blend up a mango, papaya, some pineapple and parsley using celery and apples to assist the greenstar to get that fruit through... and bring it to me at work for a treat. oooohhhh man it'll be yummy. :D

I feel like my body is still holding onto a lot of toxins hence my mood and I want them out. Just drank a SWF, thinking maybe that'll help. Hadn't done one in a couple of days.

I need to get away from it. I need to feel light, clean, and free of this obsession with "what will I eat?" Tonight, I don't care if this comes across as an "eating disorder". I know it sure sounds like I have one - who cares! I need an about face - need it tomorrow. oh i forgot:

1 or 2 litres of water
1 fasting tea (drank 1/2)
3 litres of juice: watermelon juice - cantaloupe juice - a blend mix of cantaloupe, papaya (too thick) and mango - watered down to make it almost 2 litres with water

three bowel movements the last one was very mucusy but the other two were 'normal'. i had a tummy ache with the last one, it was at work and i was cramping up :( but i felt fine once i got it out.

i think for me... a water fast needs assistance in the BM department whereas a juice fast doesn't. just another reason i prefer to do juice.

Aaaaaw thanks Aleesha - you are such a sweetie. I must say that I often need a little extra help with my bowels so I may switch to juice - not sure at the moment - juice would be a lot more pleasant than than the SWF.:p What is the "fasting tea" that you use? And do you tend to lose any weight when you fast with juice? Or does it make you gain weight? The last thing I want is to put on any more weight.

Anyway, I just enjoyed a big glass of "lemonade".

Good morning.

I feel full with the juice, and I'm pleased that I started with the water fast, its nothing to sneeze at.
I have a lot of mucus coming up, and dry snot in my nose, is that normal? And why is that?

Islegirl, In my opinion if you go overboard with the juice you can gain weight, because a calorie is a calorie. I don't know if that is a fact.

I want to know if can I juice a mango? Or is it used in smoothies instead?

Aleesha you're a gourmet juicer  and congrats on your bowel movements.

Aleesha Sattva
05-04-2010, 10:55 AM
well i've never gained weight on a fast... ever. so nope, it doesn't make me gain weight. i would think that MC has more calories that fresh juices... since it's made with maple syrup. my fasting tea (or love tea as i also call it) is yogi fasting tea. loooove the stuff.

rawhoney, you are releasing mucus... this is goooooooooooooood!!! and no a calorie is not a calorie and most of us (me included) don't believe in calories when we are eating raw anyways. ;) a calorie of high-fat food is much different than a calorie of freshly made apple juice. i'll take the latter any day.

mango, papaya, strawberry - all are very thick juices and can restart your digestion. i also either cut them with a very thin juice and/or water. i add water, mix and take a sip. if it tastes good i add a little more water, mix and taste. i keep doing this till i know that one more bit of water will make it not as yummy and i stop. ;) that way i get taste and a thinner at the same time.

i'm up, awake and totally blissing out. i feel sooooo refreshed. had weird fasting dreams all night again last night but nothing upsetting like the night before so that's good. *whew*

my meditations have been great... i could use more time to sit but after today i have a lighter schedule for the rest of the week so this is good. a few new raw food clients this week which is lovely... and a stop in at one of our wholesalers for the rock shop i work at. this means i get to bliss out with HUGE amethysts and crystals for a few hours... oh poor me LOL

Good morning.

II have a lot of mucus coming up, and dry snot in my nose, is that normal? And why is that?

My take is that's it's definitely your body systems purging...releasing toxings and since YOU brought up the subject... I personally always have more "boogers" when I'm doing a long terms fast:D. Our nasal passage is one of our eliminative channels.

Sorry for fellow fasters out there that might think of this as TMI but just sharing a fasting journey experience.

I had the juice of 1 tangerine (my nieces and nephew ate up all my fruit)...funny how that happens - kids seem to show a disinterest in something until you buy it and then they can't get enough:)

Anyhoo...I think I need to kick in some common sense... haven't had much water...energy is taking another deep...I'm going to drink water every hour on the hour until I reach 64 oz which should take long cause I usually drink 20oz or so at one time. I'm really really not trying to dehydrate myself in this extreme and early onset of humidity we are blessed with--my body-mind-spirit are just at that place where I have no need to drink so when I go home (at my sister's) ... so that's why I'm drinking water and I'm going back to the grocer to get some citrus fruit to have on standby for very low energy moments (LIKE NOW)

Aleesha's right... Kale's avitar is smiling -wowee!

Glad to read that everyone is moving right along on their journey...I never took that herbal supplement to kick start a bowel movement yet...my digestion system always completely shuts down on a long term fast...I will usually spend some time massaging my abdomen area and or some exercise movements to "wake" things up so to speak. I guess I'll take it now so I can have an early bird movement cause I know my body - I would hate to be at that meeting tomorrow and have to make a fast dash to a public bathroom....

Chao!

rawhoney, you are releasing mucus... this is goooooooooooooood!!! and no a calorie is not a calorie and most of us (me included) don't believe in calories when we are eating raw anyways. ;) a calorie of high-fat food is much different than a calorie of freshly made apple juice. i'll take the latter any day.

mango, papaya, strawberry - all are very thick juices and can restart your digestion. i also either cut them with a very thin juice and/or water. i add water, mix and take a sip. if it tastes good i add a little more water, mix and taste. i keep doing this till i know that one more bit of water will make it not as yummy and i stop. ;) that way i get taste and a thinner at the same time.

see ... told ya! we wouldn't ignore YOU! (((hugs)))

Hello Everyone!

Just had a little water a few moments ago. Thinking about the juice of a few oranges orange again but who knows..... This is day 24 for me. I need to start giving my digestive system little nudgese...will do that with some mango and pineapple eventually before I start the actual transitioning on day 30.

Well - happy to see new faces and happy to see that we all are moving right along on our journeys....

I just wondered if anyone else did this? When I'm doing something like this (I guess we'll call it a water/MC fast since that seems to be the deal) type of fast, I've noticed that the detox systems are always much faster and more intense I guess cause the body is simply focused on cleansings and purging. At least that's the experience I get when I look back and compare all the different fasting methods I use.

Anyway, I say all that to say that the white coating and plaque from toxins is always a part of my experiences once I get around days 15-20. Finally (I know I'm chattty) back to the question...I use a different toothbrush everyday when I fast. I have a stash of toothbrushes that were 6 in a pack for a dollar). I do this because the mouth if full of increased toxins and bacteria because I'm purging my body systems. I only notice my breath smelling when I am cleansing and it's because every day I see that little white coating when I wake up from toxins that have released while sleeping. So I use a different toothbrush daily (sometimes more than once a day if needed). When I'm not fasting I change toothbrushes on a monthly basis anyway but that's just me.

My sister thinks this is weird. That's how I do it - works for me. Anyone else use different toothbrushes?

Aleesha Sattva
05-05-2010, 12:08 PM
i could never do that. i'm just way too into the environment to be creating such waste. i would rather disinfect my toothbrush with teatree oil between brushings...

i find that detox is way more intense on water as well lav... hence why water fasting can be so difficult.

soooo great to hear you are doing so well on your fast (((hugs))) i'll miss ya when you move into the breaking phase.

It's great to hear how well everyone is doing on their fasts!

I love that we have diverse kinds of fasts going on. So much more for me to learn from and I'm always excited to read how everyone is doing with their fast.

Aleesha - My dreams have been very different since on this fast too. More vivid. But last night I had a really intense one. It was so emotional that I started crying while I was sleeping. The tears were rolling down onto my pillow. I've never had that happen before. Just amazing. What a wonderful experience it was and it felt like such a clean way to detox some emotional junk. I'm feeling so positive right now.

This is Day 9 of my MC/water fast and my third day with only water. My body feels so clean and it's completely not wanting the Grade B maple syrup atm. I was wanting to start juicing this Friday but I may have to start Saturday. No biggy but will likely be another day with water. But if I feel my energy getting too low, I might just have to go with a MC drink.

==================================================
The rest of this post is extra stuff about my day yesterday. Not fast related but I wanted to share.
Feel free to skip it!

So yesterday was interesting. While doing some things in the back yard, I found two kittens (a few weeks old) that had been abandoned by the stream that runs along the back. I could tell they were not feral for when I called out, 'hey kitty, kitty, kitty," one started to come right up to me. While in the house getting some stuff to feed them, I saw a coyote run along the bank by the stream! This is very odd for my area and in the middle of the day too! While I was out feeding them, the coyote came back down the other side. I decided that I would not leave them. I knew that coyote was hunting them. Sadly, I was told that someone had seen another kitten but I've not been able to find it.

I've since decked out a huge box with goodies from the pet store. I've been having to treat their eyes with antibiotic ointment and today they are doing much better. I'll get them into the vet soon. :)

Good luck with the kittens!

Well, I'm off the IV, and did not throw up at all yesterday. So I'm back on Clarkia for worms, and drinking young coconut water. I must say, there's something magical about young coconut straight off the tree--SO full of life!

My eyes are still blurry, and I'm still dizzy, but at least I'm moving in a good direction. Day 65 for me, and 21 days left. :)

Happy fasting everyone! :D:D

and I'll second that about the young coconut straight off the tree. I grew up in Hawaii and can fully relate. :D Even before going raw I just could not eat/drink coconut any other way.

The kitten are doing wonderful! Just checked on them and they are all snug together in their little kitty bed. :)

Wow - great to see that everyone is moving and grooving right along....

Yep Aleesha...it is a waste, but it's even with my tea tree oils and other essential oils, can't reuse 'em:)...I just make sure I responsibly dispose of them

Hooray for the kittens that were saved today!

Hooray for Bike!

Hooray for all of us!

I didn't take that herbal tea (for my BM) because it was just too late in the evening...I know how I am during fasting and I'm telling you..I have to do another 2 hour drive in the morning for a meeting...don't want to have to pull off at a rest stop. Funny thing though - starting up exercise again seems to be "waking things" up in a way. Because I had some gas (first time I've pooted:p in a long long time) and I also recognized a familiar rumbling around...so if I drink my agua tonight I just might have that movement before tomorrow

I guess that's all I got for now friends...

Hey everyone, I'm new to fasting and would like to join in some time soon. I have never really fasted before I would like to start out doing a one day fast and work my way up to two day fast and so on. You don't have to break a one day fast. Just eat light the next day :)

Same thing with a three day fast... just have a light, easy to digest breakfast (like soft fruit) and then eat normally the rest of the day. I would avoid hard to digest foods for a week though (like nuts).

I slept well last night. Woke up early and spent some time in meditation before getting up. I'm feeling very relaxed and in a good space so... time to kick this up with a little water. I'm hoping to do water today... we'll see how it goes!

Good Morning All,

I just finished catching up with reading all of the posts in this thread and I'm so happy to see that everyone is having great success on their fast. Day 1 of my fast is going good thus far. I juiced kale, pineapple, celery, cucumber, apple & lemon this morning to take to work and I'm doing well so far.

I have a boss with ADD and he just said that he's leaving because he is not feeling well so I thank God that I won't have to deal with his anxiety and need for stimulation as I begin this fasting journey because he can be very draining. I wish everyone well and I will check in again tomorrow.

On tonight's menu: beets, apple, lemon, orange and I may toss in some celery at Aleesha's suggestion :).

Blessings to you all!!

hey, no advice on how to break the fast, I'm sure someone else will chip in, but i just wanted to say good afternoon to everyone.

I'm doing a water fast, and today is going well so far. I have been having really heavy dreams, that pull me through my alarm clock and almost into the afternoon. good thing I have nothing of importance to get to.

Last night involved living in a submarine that was almost invaded by animals that you generally find on land in the jungle, while in the submarine realizing that I missed my flight because I spent too long snowboarding the night before, I try to call my dad. Alas, no reception. Then witnessing a pink cloud spiraling in the sky as if it was a portal of some kind, but me knowing these things, quickly realized it was not a portal, just a sign (although i could not tell you what kind of sign). Later, one animal breaks the glass window on a door to get into our (there are other people with me) sub, and i kindly ask him to try again once I've locked everything up, it'd only be fair. He obliges, but then I got to feel the intense concentration of picking sticky shards of glass off my entire body for what seemed like way way too long. Later, another two subs pull up to either side of the one I am in and offer to assist us home. somehow we needed them to resurface and we end up back on shore. Oh so much more happens, but I will leave it at that.

anyway, this fast is so important to me. I will not let anything break my concentration on feeling better.

Rawroach, it is so sad that you do not like one of my favorite fruits.

Bike, I've been following your story. I wish you the best, and I'm enjoying hearing about your journey.

I'm off to do some yoga.

peace be to the journey everyone.

cathy you hardly need to break this fast at all because the smoothie has kept your digestion awake. take a day or two drinking more smoothies and adding in soft fruits and salad on the second day and you'll be good to go. i would avoid nuts and seeds for awhile though.

had an interesting night of dreams and lack of sleep... my head is a little 'tight' this morning but the water i'm drinking will probably assist with that.

pondered (strongly) about breaking my fast but upon meditation (and a reading from a friend) i've decided this is what my body and i need the most right now... so i'll continue. i am going to add yummy cantaloupe juice to my daily regime though... ahhhhh cantaloupe juice in the greenstar... Cantaloupe juice - you just gave me my fruit. I was planning to start with the veggies, really simple though, just some cucumber juicee/water next week and wanted to switch over to a fruit...cantaloupes.. oh yeah, that would perferct...transitioning to juice fasting for the next phase of this journey next week. Good Mid-day Fasters!

Day 2

I'm going really well today, I rested well last night so I think my goal to balance my sleep pattern may happen sooner than expected. :D

Last night was our women's fellowship w/ my church ladies and we went to a restaurant. I did really well too. Before going, I juiced beets, apple, lemon, celery, blended berries, and took it w/ me to the gathering. It was really chilly in there so I did order a hot tea w/ lemon. I had no cravings, little nudges to "perhaps" try something but I shot those nudges down and reminded myself that the fellowship was more important than the food (it's my new mantra for social settings). I even got three of the ladies to try my juice.

When I got up this morning to go to work I was still tired and felt like I could have sleep another couple of hours but it's after 12 noon now and I feel more revived today than I did this time yesterday so I think that's a victory, right?

Anyhoo, on tonight's menu is more of my beet combo. I didn’t have my grapefruit last night b/c when I got home I was just exhausted and went straight to bed so I may have some extra this evening.

I agree w/ you Aleesha, even though I jumped into this fast the moment I saw the thread, I feel like this is something that my body desperately needs right now. Without going into a long story, I gained 4 pounds in one day this week due to my PCOS so I welcome the turn around that my body will take from this fast. Also, b/c of my insulin resistance, as my fast progresses, I will attempt to juice more vegetables and less fruit or being to incorporate mostly low glycemic fruit until my hormones balance out. With that being said, if anyone has any suggestions to help my hormones balance out during the fast or after, please let me know. I welcome the info.:)

Bye for now

Hello Everyone!

Just checking in. So far I've had a total of approx 51oz of water and the juice of two grapefruits (that's what my body wanted). Early this morning, I did the juice of pineapple......

My body has recently let me knowe "it's okay for us to transition now"---so serious about that - I know it sounds odd. I got sick seven weeks ago with something nasty and it took days to clear it (fever, chills, body pains). It came on within a couple of days of opening up a tub area that had horrible rot underneath due to a contractor who faked his way through a bathroom remodel a number of years ago. Between the sheetrock dust, saw dust (all of the joyces had to be rebuilt) and mold, I had to move out of my house. I then developed headaches and a bad cough that still just won't quit.

The job has taken twice as long as it should have, because the contractor opened it up and then went to Mexico to sit on a sailboat while his son worked alone without help, gah! So, having been sick, exposure to bad stuff, the stress of living in hotels and having my fur-babies kenneled and then traveling for a couple of weeks to take care of my Dad, my body's not doing well at all (admittedly, I didn't eat well while I was traveling).

So, long story short, I'm joining y'all on Monday! I'm planning for a MC followed by a green smoothie fast. I wish I could start tomorrow, but I have long drives and a performance to do outdoors and I just can't count on bathroom availability tomorrow. But Monday's mine!

A bath would probably help.

Oh man for sure that would help but we have house guests atm and they are in the master bedroom. Only tub in the house. :(

I just wouldn't feel comfy taking it over for that hour or so.

D, it'll be nice to have you here with us. Sounds like you need a goooood cleaning. Any water days planned?

kale... ah i could never give up my bath... you are a much better host than i am LOL

i would LOVE some juice right now but alas... i want to sleep through the night and drinking juice at 9pm isn't a good thing. oh well... there's always tomorrow!

Aleesha, I didn't plan any water days. Advice? I wouldn't mind incorporating a water fast day every week when I'm back on solids, but not sure what's best in a MC and smoothie fast.

As to the bathtub discussion, I loved my big, oversized corner tub. Haven't been able to use it since February. :(

Two or three more days and I'll be done cleaning. Hopefully between that and a fast, I'll clear this nagging cough.

Happy Sunday!

No liquids yet...just been very mellow on the couch. Just previewed "Simply Raw" - plan to have raw vegan movie night discussion with my parents and family after this fasting period.

I was at the St. Louis Bread Co with some family members and I almost tried their orange juice. They had orange juice in cups that they were selling and the cups said "freshly squeezed" but I just wasn't sure about it...so no juice. I have to buy some cucumbers and melons today and juice tonight for tomorrow.

No exciting detox stories.....

D, considering what you've just been through - if it were me - i would add in water days. perhaps every 3rd day have just water and then do your MC and smoothies the other days. only have water days when you can really detox... cause you probably will (not definitely but most likely considering...)

i woke up this morning - late... did some stretches and got out of bed. came into the kitchen and my hubby said, "cantaloupe, apple/celery/ginger, or grapefruit?" i said, "apple please" and he opened the fridge to litres of freshly made juice!

he got up early to juice for me so i'd have plenty of juice for today. ahhhhhh what a great hubby i have.

the kids aren't up yet but we are doing a craft/painting project. i have a cement table and benches in the front yard. my daughter and i are painting paisley designs and flowers on it today and my hubby will put the sealer on it tomorrow. it'll be beautiful!

blessed day all... blessed day!

Love what youdid with the table and benches.

The juice looks yummy too.

Oh well count me in for at least a day.

Ending tonight with and herbal tea starting tommorow with water and juice feast.

Are you all incorporating nut milks too or is this strictly fruits and veggies?

Think I'll plan to incorporate MSM plus my other supplements also.

My body has recently let me knowe "it's okay for us to transition now"

I so feel this too.

It has only been recently, with the necessity for such a radical change, that everything had been so aligned at one time.

Hope everyone is experiencing enlightening detox symptoms.

Our mothers day BBQ came and went with me not slipping once. I had to prepare most of the food so that made things tempting more so but I did good. Drank my watermelon juice, and had a couple more glasses of cantaloupe.

Completed 21 hrs of a 24hrs juice water feast yesterday
ended early with RAWVEGAN salad.

Will go for it again just need to start my 24hour clock at a different point since I work evening. I think 24hr block with intermittent RAW transtitioning days will be a good way for me to segway to a consistent RAWvegan path.

I'll touch base this eve if I am able toget my juice fixins together.

Yesterday was all peach nectar and water.... felt really good!

Started this AM with a green smoothie, more details in my blog, will enjoy a green smoothie through the afternnonn too plus lots of water.
(Was it ok to mention GS in this thread?)

Then hopefully fast againt his evening through tommorow evening!

Peach Nectar -- Sounds Delightful...

Just water and melon juice for me - for now..rest of the week coconut water...definitely in transition mode, today is Day 30. My body is definitely speaking to me to stop and transition - it's even letting me know the specific nutrition it needs to rebuild and refuel itself - I love how the body talks to us. My body has brought back cravings for certain greens and other veggies that I don't even like - it's letting me know that it needs those specific nutrients/minerals--so cool to me how the body works like that...

melons, melons, melons....

Congrats Lav on day 30 and to what you've accomplished with your fast so far!

Day 15 for me and I'm feeling so wonderful!

Yesterday I tried a beet juice mix. It also had celery, carrot, and an apple in it. I didn't care for this very much. I juiced the leaves of the beet too and that may have been what did it in for me. It had an earthy bitter taste. It was the only juice thus far that I have not enjoyed or finish.

However, at this moment I'm immensely enjoying a tall glass of iced watermelon juice.

My house guests have departed and I shall be reclaiming my bath tub back! Still having some back aches so quite looking forward to that. :D

I am going to spend these next 10 days doing some long foot detox baths and extra reflexology to help wake up sleeping organs and promote good old detoxing and healing...

I'm not feeling the melons...gottta feeling it might have been too soon for them which is funny cause the orange/grapefruits were no problemo...

Hope everyone else has enjoyed a very pleasant Tuesday...

I'm craving some grapefruit juice now that you mention it Aleesha.
Grapefruit is one of my favorite fruits. I have been missing it lately with doing an all water fast.

Kalehua, 15 days is awesome.
How long has everyone else been fasting for?

Has anyone read about the Indian Yogi who has claimed to have gone 7 decades without food or water? It's hard to believe, but I'd really like to think it's true. It'd be quite the miracle.

Anyway,
Had a wonderful massage/therapy session to release some of my dis-ease. ended up crying all over the poor lady that I had only been introduced to today through a friend. I feel lighter and know it will be easier to keep up with my desire to transition now.
I think it's so important for a body cleanse to include an emotional cleanse as well. Eating Raw is not just about feeding your body the right stuff so it functions to the best of it's ability, it's also about getting into the best head space, discovering your true potential for peace of mind and self-enlightenment. This is what I am learning.

sleep well everyone. :)

Hi, everyone! I think I am finally *in the zone*!!! I could not relate to that phrase until about 3 days ago. Suddenly, preparing food for my family became not-so-hard.

Here's the amazing part--for me. I prepared watermelon--red, ripe, juicy, sweet, cold, succulent (get the picture?!?) watermelon--this morning for my children and I DID NOT FEEL THE URGE TO SAMPLE SOME!!! Unbelievable!

****ZONE****

Well, I'm on Day 26 of the Master Cleanse--but not really. I had a lot of trouble in the very beginning. I'd do the salt-water flush and the lemonade, but I had a hard time putting away left-overs, like cucumbers or a few spoonfuls of guacamole (that I knew nobody would eat the next day) or... the list goes on. So.............I'd eat a few bites, that's all, just a few bites. It satisfied me, but my nibbling didn't allow my digestive system to do what it coulda/shoulda on the MC.

So, Day 26, but less than that ***pure***. Anyway I feel great! Lots of energy!! And ZONE!!

I went to Whole Foods a few days ago and was not tempted to buy anything for myself. Even the wonderful organic peaches that I bought for my family (which smelled so amazing!) DID NOT pass my lips. ZONE!!

Thanks for the support here, even though this is my first *fasting thread* post. I feel very connected to all of you.

Am on Day 4 of the Master Cleanse and feeling fab.

Gittel - I saw you posting here instead of the other thread for those who were going to do the MC and I figured I'd rather be here with others who are fasting with various liquids just so I wouldn't feel alone.

Great job Gittel - we're both in the "Zone" now. I just made my husband's supper and am still feeling free and wonderful and not really hungry.

Aleesha - would you mind letting us know what it is about the Master Cleanse that you don't like? I know you have found tremendous success with your juicing though - that it has worked beautifully for you. Just curious. I am pretty sure I read somewhere the other day that you weren't a "fan" of the MC.:)

Aleesha Sattva
05-13-2010, 10:21 AM
not a fan of the 'tonic' you make. i don't want to take in maple syrup on a reg basis. i'd rather take in the sugar in fruit instead. i do looooove cayenne, and always add that to my tomato juices...

also... SWF is not for me. nope... not at all. been there, did it, done it, got the badge, don't wanna do it again. LOL

i feel a deep connection to the juices i consume. i feel like i'm reaching into the earth and drinking it's essence. with the MC i felt like i was drinking a medication of some type... and i'm sooo not into medications at all. i guess the short answer is... i feel juicing is more natural.

the watermelon/strawberry blend my hubby did was waaaaay too heavy on the strawberries. i had to strain it and then ended up pouring it down the sink. it was just too yucky. i use 6 strawberries to an entire watermelon, he used 6 per litre. big difference.

i had my first in a long time coconut water... oh mama... i missed it so much. mmm mmmm goooooooooooooood.

today is apple/celery/ginger, some oj and some grapefruit juice. of course there will be a litre or two of young coconut water... this mama isn't going without that again.

i feel more centred this morning than i have all week. like something shifted for me last night.

ohmmmmm http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x87/recyclinggoddess/smilie_meditate.gif

oh and gittel, welcome to the thread. (((hugs))) just so you know, we don't discuss eating here. we can discuss we wanted to but we don't discuss what we ate (if anything) cause it can make it hard for other fasters. i've personally had times when i've read a post from a fellow faster who ate and what they ate and found myself in the kitchen shortly after eating. so in an effort to not do that to others... in the threads i start... i ask that no one discusses eating.

okay people... let's do this! let's feel the zone, enjoy the zone and create our bliss!!! cause we all know... FASTING RAWKS!!!

Welcome to the thread!

When I started my fast, I was doing the MC. I had it in my mind to do it for 10 days, then maybe fast on water for a couple before doing juice for 20 days or so. The MC wasn't too bad for me at first but I strongly feel that my body didn't want the grade b maple syrup. I thought the lemon drink was yummy but by day 7 of the MC my body told me no more! I just drank water that 7th day and my body felt clean. (Following two days just water then one MC day for energy before juicing.)

Now I'm on juice and my body still feels very clean. If I start to feel bogged down, I'll do a day or two of water.

I totally get it when Aleesha says, "i feel juicing is more natural."
My body felt it.

However, before fasting I didn't consume things such as grade b maple syrup so perhaps that has something to do with it.

Anyhow, last night was really rough on me. It started in the late afternoon. I began to get a lot of cravings and it was for things that would not have been good for me. Nothing I craved was raw. This was the hardest moment thus far, that I've faced. I had many thoughts seep into my mind urging me to break the fast for these cravings.

Well, I didn't but it was not easy. I ended up talking to some friends and playing an online game to distract myself and it helped. Bed time rolled around and I can happily say that I'm doing okay this morning. No cravings. Other then some lower back pain that I still have, I feel great.

I have a question about pear juice. Today I juiced two pears, a lemon, and an apple. It was really good but rather thick. I don't mind the thickness but just worry that maybe it'll kick start my digestion. Should this be a concern for me?

Aleesha Sattva
05-13-2010, 09:20 PM
I'd say yes... I don't drink pear juice or mango juice because it's soooo thick. That said... I've also drank a thicker juice with a litre of water (a sip in between sips of the thicker juice) and I was fine...

So it all depends!

Hey everyone, I'm just sitting down with some coconut water... thought I'd check in. It's been a super busy day. Took my son for his tat, my hubby got work done as well and then went for a long walk with my daughter. *whew* Time to chill for a bit and then bed.

changed it up - had an apple instead of coconut water. my 'event' was postponed so i'll be fasting again...

i think i'm going to do a few days of water and coconut water... and then a few days of straight water IF i have enough energy to work. we'll play it by ear. i know i have enough energy with the coconut water... it's the straight water i'm concerned about.

my boss' dad is expected to pass at any time. he has cancer - so i'll be running the shop for them while they attend to things. i'll need enough energy to work for them... so we'll see how things go.

Hi, everyone! I want to apologize to all of you for mentioning food in my post this morning. I'm very sorry. Please forgive me.

It's been a great zzzzzzzzzzzzzzooooooooooooooooone day for me! I'm a bit hungry, but I plan to drink 2-3 cups of water in a few minutes. I find it quite interesting that early in this MC and during my previous MC, I drank 10 - 12 cups of lemonade per day. Now I seem to be fine with about 4 cups and water. One day recently I only drank water. Hmmm...... I feel great!!

Aleesha, could you have salvaged the watermelon/strawberry combo by freezing it into popsicles? It breaks my heart to dump food.

Lilly2010, I find it empowering to fast. I tend to eat, not only when bored, but when I'm trying to avoid a task that I know I must tackle. I love being able to take my container of liquid out of the kitchen and just DO. No more hanging out at the kitchen table. It really is quite empowering.

Happy fasting everyone!

Bike, I am so amazed with your story. I've never heard anything like it (not to say that there are not others who have gone through the same thing), but it is new to me, and you seem quite positive despite, which is great.

i've read a lot about fruitarians. I hope you post something in the future about how your new fruitful life is going, because I'm very interested to know if one can sustain themselves on just fruit, and I mean mentally too.

I'm still getting a lot of intense cravings at night. But I'm holding up. Barely. As long as I can get though the evening, I'm fine in the morning.

My back is feeling better which is strange since yesterday I spent about five hours in the backyard shoveling up sod lol. It's like it worked itself out.

Just made some really yummy juice. I'm surprised how good it came out! 2 carrots, 2 celery sticks, 1 fugi apple, 1 lemon, and about 1 inch of ginger over ice. In an odd way it kind of reminds me of passion fruit.

Back to the yard for me to finish the job.

Though, I've recently aquired some terrible breath and brush my teeth several times a day, in an attempt to conquer it (with no such avail).
So now, I'm afraid to get too close to anyone when I talk!

I'm incredibly thirsty today, chugging back water, lots and lots of water.

Going to go bask in the beautiful sun and read my book! (House of Leaves).

happy fasting!

ps. Kalehua, Evening is the worst for cravings. I feel that same way; when morning comes I'm completely fine, but it's those nights that try and sabbotage things. Stay Strong!

Hi all!

I'm still weak, but yesterday I began to feel stronger. At this point, I plan to stay on juice until I get back to Canada, then go right to a doctor. I tried eating one day, but it sapped all my energy. I have until May 31 to maintain as much energy as possible, then I fly back.

OOne good thing--I've been sleeping extremely well. So I KNOW my body is doing tons of inside work. I have SUCH respect for my body now...

Much peace and love, everyone! :):):)

Just got back from the store and washed all my produce. I picked up enough to last me a few days or so. But while I was there I decided I wanted to pick up some MSM. Been hearing such good things about it and if it can help my skin, all the better.

Feeling like a lazy day. I "should" be working in the back yard but thinking about playing in the pool instead. hehe! Not sure if the water is warm enough yet but it's such a nice day.

Lol, went in the pool! :D And the water was really nice. I have a solar blanket on the top and a DIY solar heater so with such a sunny day as yesterday, they did the trick. Have some family coming over today to join me this time. But it's overcast atm. I hope the sun comes out by time they get here.

What's MSM?

From my understanding, methyl sulfonyl methane is a sulfur found in cow's milk, meat, seafood, fruits, vegetables, and some grains. I think I've read such things as aloe and cucumbers have higher amounts then other greens.

It's claimed to promotes all over good health but also aid in the production of healthier hair, skin and nails - improving skin elasticity and hair and nail growth and strength.

I also hear it's used specifically for joint health.

I'm personally interested in MSM because it can help speed the detox process. (Also for the skin benefits.) So I've started to add it to my juice during this fast and I'll continue to use it after I break the fast.

But I'm new to MSM so perhaps someone who has experience with it can chime in.

i've used it in the past... it really assists with elasticity of the skin so i used it when i first came to raw to assist my skin while i shed 145 pounds of my person.

MSM is naturally occurring in foods which are irrigated by the rain and grown in the sun. unfortunately many of our foods are greenhouse foods nowadays...

start off slow... and you can increase until you get loose stools... then you know you are taking too much... back off a little and maintain for a bit... then you can try to increase again if you wish. i worked up to and was taking 2 or 3 tablespoons at one point (for a short period of time) until my body didn't want it anymore.

Thanks for the information on MSM everyone, I'll have to look into that some more. Raw has done unbelievable things for my skin, but I'm always interested in learning more.

Wow that is so neat! I'm really interested in Reiki, I think it's great.

Your kids are so lucky - I was homeschooled growing up, and then I decided I wanted to go to public high school, or so I thought. Thank goodness I didn't actually commit to it, because it was a complete waste of time. I can't imagine how people do it for twelve years!
More power to you. :)

sara, you can post about water here. What is your reason for water only?

Aleesha, I plan to see a doctor because I'm still really weak...but we'll see!

sara,
I'm doing a strictly water fast right now. I am not sure how long I will do it for, but I am hoping beyond 20 days.

If you post in this thread, we can perhaps, encourage each other through our fasts.

either way, good luck.

Anyway, Biked all day today. I'm feeling pretty worn out, but I'm so glad I spent my day biking down trails.

I just want to sleep now.

I have not been posting but I am glad everyone seems to be doing well. I am feeling good.

Sarahla- I have done 40 day water fast a few times. That was a straight fast no breaks in between.

I am actually going for another 40 day water fast this time.

hey, to those of you who have done or are doing an extended fast and are small in size:

My parents are very worried about me, and think what I'm doing could be detremental to my health. They say this because I am quite small in size.
They worry that my body size can not handle an extended fast.

I am 5'6, 115 pounds.
I know I need to ultimately use my own body as a guide and trust myself, know my limits and what not, but I would like anyone's opinion for the sake of having more than just my own.
Does anyone think that it would be bad to do an extended water fast?
Has anyone done an extended water fast while being around my size?

Any advice/thoughts would be nice!

Rawmom, day 20 is awesome! You have amazing will power. I'm inspired to keep going. :)

Well, how "extended" are you thinking?
I'm your size, but I haven't fasted (correctly) for more than a few days at a time. I don't know if it would be a good idea, since I already eat loads of fats and am still constantly losing hair.

Have you considered doing a juice fast instead?

nadien alexandra

I'm thinking 20 days.

My juicer is really sad, and I feel like I don't get very good juice from it.

So I avoid juicing as much as I'd like to. And, I don't have the money to buy loads of fruits and veggies.

water fast is cheap, and efficient and it makes me feel good.

but, I'm not sure if 20 days is shooting too high for my size.

take pulp from juicer and put it in a pot with water , then buy a 5 gallon size paint filter bag at home depot paint department for like $3 . take this nylon mesh bag type thing and line a big pot with it and have elastic seam around bag opening draped over outer lip of pot so it doesnt fall in . pour the water / pulp mix in . then wrap hand around the top of bag and squeeze all the pulp down into bottom of bag and keep squeezing pulp to get all the liquid out . then youve more juice to drink from your fruit . i was juicing like that with both a blender or a cheap juicer . ide also just chop stuff up , then mash with a manual potato masher in a pot then do the water add / filter bag method . a big fine mesh metal kitchen strainer is a good tool also
