I know, I know - I've been absent for a long time.
However, today I am starting something new. I have finished reading Dr. Douglas Graham's book 80-10-10 and I am starting his program this morning. I am thrilled to have found his book. I am so hoping that it will be exactly what I need to help me stop yo-yoing.:D
Breakfast:
"Citrus Celebration" with
About 16 oz pineapple, 8oz raspberries, 8oz oranges, 8oz red grapefruit - Blended. (This was supposed to have kiwi in it also and strawberries instead of the raspberries - I had neither) It is yummo!
Now I'm off to do laundry and then off to get some fresh fruit and veggies and greens to re-stock my "treasure chest":D
Isles, I just read that book too and I loved it. Everything made SO much sense to me...in fact I even decided against that Lara Bar this morning and had bananas instead :) I'm easing into it, but I have noticed that I can't have fat before running and when I just eat fruit beforehand, I breathe much easier and feel faster and lighter. The real test will be my marathon this weekend- if it works eating this way, then I'll KNOW it's for keeps! I don't know if we're "allowed" to talk about this here though so I'll stop- just wanted to let you know I'm in the same boat as you! Best of luck and do keep posting here!

Yes, it really is freezing here in NYC. I made myself some chia seed pudding for breakfast but have nothing else to eat in the office and it's way too cold to walk to Whole Foods so I think I'm going to hop on the train and head to Bonobo's for some soup for lunch. The Husband is going to meet me there.
I think we might go out for dinner as well as we didn't have time to prep anything over the weekend. We'll see.
Back to the grind.
What's the 80-10-10?

Hey folks, starting a green smoothie fast today. Hoping to make it five days at the least.
Lodestar, look in my blog for Cheezey Tomato Soup. It is my absolute favorite. Also, Allisa has some good soups in her book. And over at raw freedom community Carmella is really into soups. She has a zucchini avocado soup that is really great.

Hey everyone - I forgot to post yesterday cuz my sister is here. I am beginning a juice fast today. YEAH!!! I am hoping to make it thru the rest of the week. I enjoy it so it isn't about me wanting to do it that keeps me going, it is more if I the week gets to busy for me to make the juice. I would like to make it all the way until next Sunday on it but, my minimum is to make it until Wednesday. If you have any favs let me know so I can try them out.

meow - I am so glad that someone else feels the way I do about this.
Okay, we'll keep posting - maybe I'll re-read the rules tonight if I get a chance. I have this tiny feeling in the back of my mind that Alissa mentioned him in her book though, but I could be wrong. No matter. VeGenesis used 80-10-10, I am sure and he is still around. It's RAW!!! I will definitely be rooting for you girl.
If anyone knows an easy way to slice up a mango, boy would I love to hear about it. I am having 5 yellow ones for my late lunch and what a mess. They aren't quite ripe enough either - taste kind of lemony. Yes, the ones that seem to be riper are much easier to remove (score) from the stone and they are sweeter. I didn't have enough for the 2 lbs I was going to have so I simply added 2 bananas and blended it all.
Gotta run.:D

I usually peel them first and then if you can imagine the pit or stone in the center (kind of like a flat oblong disk rather than a peach pit or something like that, which is equally round on all sides) you'll notice the mango kind of follows the shape of the pit inside so I then just try and get big chunk off one side by slicing as close to the flat side of the pit as I can and then keep working around it. Doesn't come out pretty but Its really quick once you get the hang of it.

katy j. - thanks for the tip re the mangos. I will try this next time instead of scoring them all over. I know their ripeness makes a difference too. They didn't taste very good as they were underripe. Live and learn.

meow- I just checked Alissa's book and on page 537, sure enough, she has a shake called "Doctor Doug's Shake". He'd made it for her after a huge workout with him. I thought I remembered his name in her book.:D

Hey folks, I am on my second smoothie of the day. I have to make sure I do not get too hungry. I made that mistake just now and holy cow the cravings kicked in. But now I am sipping a strawberry banana spinich cacao shake and it is doing the trick. Drink drink drink. I will have a savory smoothie later.

Back with the end of day report:
Went to Bonobo's for lunch and had 3 bowls *oink* of their tomato basil soup mixed with their avocado cilantro soup. I've tried recreating these and so far no dice. I think they put agave or something in the tomato basil cause it's pretty sweet. And so delicious!
I got some nori rolls and a coconut chai to go. Just tried one of the nori rolls and then threw the rest out. They were gross and fishy tasting. Can't win 'em all.
So, I had the coconut chai for dinner. Wasn't too hungry after all the soup so that should do it for the night.
Onion bread is in the dehydrator and I'm about to pop some ginger marinated portabellas in as soon as they're done marinating. Love those. Try 'em. You'll be hooked.
I also made the mock salmon pate. That was a first for me. It's okay (no mock tuna!) - kind of bland. I figure I'll bring it to work and maybe get or make a salad with it tomorrow. I think I'll bring a lemon with me, too. It seems like it could use a little zest but maybe just a vinaigrette on the salad would do the trick.
Loving raw!! Hope all are well :)

Never had another thing after the mangos (except a small unmentionable:o). I was too busy, pretty full from the fruit too. However, I know I'll have to be careful of this and make sure I am getting plenty of calories for my needs so I don't get tempted to have what I shouldn't. I'll get better organized though. No need to shop tomorrow so I have all my food on hand for the day. I figure with this new way of eating, I'll likely shop 2, maybe 3 times a week until I get used to the amounts required and so things are fresh always. It is very hard to find organic in this town.

Hi, I am joining this month's challenge. Trying to get back with it and do 100% raw again. Hard to keep with it but I'm going to give it a go again. :)

Welcome Vaclare79 - it's the "getting up, moving ahead again" that counts isn't it. Trying - that's what counts. Good for you little rawbie.:D

Oh man yesterday was dumb. I had a yummy banana apple spirulina smoothie in the am and then two raw almond joys (yum!) Then my stomach was hurting from the chocolate and I really wanted veggies but not raw. I rationalized some "healthy" cooked food but then my stomach hurt like mad! And felt so stretched and way too full, and had unhealthy cravings on top of it! Wow. Even normal cooked foods have a binge/numbing element for me. I need my veggies raw. Why am I being resistant to green smoothies? They taste great and make me feel great! So I'm going to be accountable to you guys to eat green smoothies.
