View Full Version : Avocado 'pips'
Does anyone eat them. I didn't know until a few days ago that they are good for you after you blend them. They must be damaging on blender though?
Any other pips that are worth eating as well? Many thanks.

I think you're asking about the pit, right? If not, I have no idea what a pip is.
No, I don't eat the pits.
I don't eat avocado pits either. In fact, I don't even compost them - they get tossed in the garbage. I had too many avocado plants growing in my garden from tossing them in the compost - wink!
The only seeds I will eat/blend occasionally are cantelope seeds. I'll toss them in my smoothie - but only occasionally. I've watched videos making cantelope milk with them. *Ü*
Yes, Pits!
This was the quote that got me interested...
Jeff: You also put the seeds in the blender right? Even the avocado seed!
Dr. Tom Wu: Yes I do!. When I eat the avocado I always eat the seed. It is packed with very good nutrients. It has the life force. It is a very high Qi food! It’s also the highest in soluble fiber. This soluble fiber binds to the fat and excess cholesterol. Then we can lower cholesterol and improve heart function naturally. We can improve the blood circulation by pulling out all the fatty deposits in our circulatory system with the soluble fiber of the avocado seed. Soluble fiber is very difficult to get in our diet. Oatmeal has some, but it cannot compare with the avocado seed. Any heart disease patient must eat the avocado including the seed.

Thinking I'll pass on this one. There are enough good foods out there w/out grinding up a pit like that.

that sounds very wrong to me.
why would a human in nature eating an avocado want to eat the pit? it's impossible and not meant to eat, otherwise it would be small and eat-able??

I'm passing too; I agree with the above comments- there is enough bountiful nutrition to supply my needs and who knows how long it takes the body to break down the nut - even if it is ground up.

sounds interesting, am going to try it. I like to try new things and if it is nutritious why throw it away, wonder if it is more nutritious when it starts to sprout....

I have tried the pit in my gs. I personally did not care for it. It wasn't so much the taste as the way it made my mouth feel. It kind of dried it out.

Always trow my pit in my vita mix for my green drinks . Don't even know its there.. Just make sure it is at the bottom of vita mix. Why waste a good thing.
I eat about 4 pits a week.

How does it taste/ what taste does it add to your drinks? Noticed any health benefits due to it in particular? How long have you been putting them in your VM? and does it give your VM a real beating??

In British English, "pip" refers to the seed of certain fruits, including apples and oranges.
